Ape-x is a Newcastle based Techno night that started off as a small midweek event but is now a bigger monthly event and one of the most popular events in the North East. Every event is packed with huge names and local talent that are well respected in the scene. towards the end of 2019, ape-x was nominated for ‘best club event’ by DJ mag. In summer 2019 I took over the role of Graphic designer for Ape-x. it is really exciting to be involved with a brand as it enters into its 12th year. As well as Graphics, I also worked on merchandise for the brand.

Ill behaviour opened its doors in 2012 as a midweek club night aiming to bring more underground music to the student scene. Every tuesday Ill behaviour brings big names such as horsemeat disco to the ballroom for an affordable £4. Cosmic ballroom is a hidden gem of a venue tucked away in Newcastle’s china town. At the end of January 2020 ill behaviour decided to expand to sunderland to test out the waters in club upside down. to the right is the programme poster I created for this. I took over the role of graphic designer in summer 2019 and have designed all artworks and merchandise since.

Me Me Me is a Newcastle based record label founded in 2016. I have been involved over the last few months designing social media content and merchandise for the label. One of the merchandise designs was inspired by the conversation around Brexit and the other was inspired by the techno genre itself and the analogue approach to making music.

For this project I ended up doing 2 different designs in very different styles for the same date due to venues falling through. Even though one was going ahead I wanted to show both designs. The poster to the right was just produced as a tease for social media so does not have the full event details as it usually would on a poster.

Acid acid acid was a one-off event at cosmic ballroom which i was asked to design. This event was used to test the waters to see if the cosmic ballroom customer would be interested in an event like this coming back in the future.

Rush events showcases the best of drum & bass in Newcastle, I took over the role of graphic designer in the summer of 2019 and completely changed the look of the brand. From trend research, I found 90’s themed artworks are what draws in the consumer. The following artworks show how I used my trend research to create something new & original.

Off the record is a heavy decor themed disco night that was born in 2013 and happened to be where i went on my first ever night out in newcastle back in 2015. After taking over the full graphic design role for this brand in summer 2019 i gave it a new look for 2020. The new artwork was inspired by voguing, hedonism, disco and the crossover between disco & 90’s house music. The artwork changed again when we decided to change venue. We did this to fit in with the nature of the new venue. As well as graphic design for this brand i am also in charge of setting up the venue with decor, designing merchandise and photographing the event itself.

off the record // I decided to make a decor plan for off the record, to help visualise how the club needed to be laid out before an event. I usually decorate the club on my own but i thought by having a plan it would make it easier for other people to help me out. I found that making this decor plan has been very beneficial for when I have had to hand over the role when I have other deadlines to meet.

Strictly makina is a new makina night being held at cosmic ballroom bimonthly. Strictly Makina showcases the sounds & talent of the north east. As it is a new event I haven’t done much design for it yet, however as well as the usual posters & social media artworks, I have produced a t-shirt design as well.

Ruin fidelity has run a series of sporadic events over the years. These 2 pages show a few of the designs I have done for them. Both posters are illustrations of the band or musicians themselves digitally drawn by me. The poster to the right is not the one that was used for the event itself, but is the poster that was used for the documentary this artwork was involved with. The illustration was originally designed for the event, however, when the event took place, a documentary director who was following the musician on his tour loved the artwork and used it for merchandise to fund the project.

The Main frame was a brand created as a tease to see how many people we could get interested in the event. The Brand is inspired by tron and the matrix, so i tried to give the artworks a future-past sci-fi inspired look.

La casa loca in an air bnb in the heart of newcastle with a classy jungle style theme. I was asked to design a logo, decorations for the apartment & social media branding. I have only been able to show a small amount of the design I have done to this page due to the company owner not releasing it themselves yet, however i hope you can get a feel for the brand through this. I was happy with the amount of work and the outcome produced for this project, as i was only given 3 hours to produce the full brand.
