Why Are We NOT Getting Our Investment Return on Education in America?

United States students’ test scores and comprehension lag significantly behind other developed countries.

Finland, Hong Kong, Canada, Taiwan, Estonia, Japan, and Korea are all ahead of us. Yet somehow we outspend the rest of the world in dollars-per-student by a significant margin. Why is that?

Perhaps if we spent less time on indoctrination (LGBTQ, Black Lives Matter, Critical Race Theory, etc.) we’d have time to educate. Before we blame the teachers, let’s look at our local educational situation.

Recently, two teachers considered among the best in the CCSD, as witnessed by the fact they were both named “Teacher of the Year” at one point, decided to quit teach ing in our district. The reason for this involved their concerns about where our school district’s prior ities lay, and the difficulties they were encountering finding time to actually teach their classes. Many ongoing education demands have been forced on good teachers by CCSD administration, and these are collateral to the work itself.

Where are the School Board Mem bers in this discussion? Are they proactively representing the parents toward the verifiable efficacy of our educational programs, or have they been lulled to sleep by the adminis tration? An administration, by the way, that might just be taking cues from the NEA and other liberal political groups. Groups like this don’t tend to focus on educational quality. For them, this seems to be a low-priority item on their agenda. They really don’t care how their ul timate client, the school-aged child, eventually turns out.

How on earth did this come to be? Liberals have been predominant in our education system since before the 1960s, but now they run amok, completely unfettered by common sense and conscience; or so it would

seem.

There is little or no intellectual honesty today. There is a great deal of talking down to parents whose taxes pay the salaries of these bad actors, and a sense that the public education establishment in the US today believes children are theirs to mold and damage as they see fit, while parents have no rights to affect education offered by these taxpay er-funded institutions. You’re paying for the education your children are being denied. Imagine if you ordered a steak and the waiter condescend ingly presented some soy vegetable patty instead.

It may be time to clean house.

There are many excellent teachers in America yet today. Even so, the recent decline in test scores and the ultra-liberal agenda being pushed in modern K-12 classrooms, and especially in our colleges and univer sities, has had a deeply damaging impact on the quality of average public school graduates over the last 2 decades. Is it too late to fix this?

No.

Take an interest in your child’s education. Support the school choice options. Attend School Board meet ings and voice your concerns. Talk with candidates running for School Board this time around, and vote for the ones that reflect your concerns and values.

The founding fathers of America gave us the tools to ensure this coun try is run by its citizens, not by fiat from tyrants; whether in education or other government service.

A tool unused is a useless tool. If you don’t vote, you lose.

No one is more qualified than voters and parents to make these deci sions. Let such decisions be made properly going forward. The stakes are too high to ignore and the future depends on todays decisions.
