ABOUT

Graduated in 2018 with a BFA in Architecture and a minor in Architectural History from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Throughout my academic career and my experience in the field, I have learned a philosophy that understands design as an interdisciplinary practice. It is with a diverse team and a shared goal that excellent design can be achieved to enhance the quality of life and our surrounding environment. To me, Architecture is the bridge that connects nature, culture and people. It is a medium that asks for continuous refinement; one that needs to be precise and well-founded, logical and simple. My design has been impacted by the keen relationship that I share with nature. I enjoy traveling, sailing, running, photography, and reading; all of which inspire my work. I am an immigrant in the pursuit of new connections and inspiring experiences that will help me grow and shape my unique input in the built environment.

Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you. Frank Lloyd Wright.”

A TA R A X I A State of serene calmness Ann Arbor, Michigan Healthcare | Residential Duration: 20 Weeks

The design of this building revolves around nature in the sense that it dictates the user experience and the atmosphere created by the built environment. I want the residents to be able to feel the warmth of the sun, to smell the freshness of the flowers and plants and to be guided by the views of the exterior. I want to make the residents feel at home. To foster a connection between the residents, multiple gathering areas have been designed throughout the building. These spaces seek to create a unique experience by enhancing each of their senses. In each of these spaces, the natural environment plays a key role in elevating the physical and mental health. Natural light becomes an essential part of the building. Since the retirement home is located in Michigan, where winters can get extremely cold, enclosed spaces that play with the illusion of being outside became the driving force of the design.

S C A D C U L I N A RY I N ST I T U T E Atlanta, GA Residential | Educational Duration: 10 Weeks

Formally inspired by the statistics of the city of Atlanta, this building grows as a symbol to remind its people of the importance of green spaces and its advantages. Atlanta is known for being one of the cities with most green spaces in the United Sates and yet it has also become one of the cities with the most polluted air. The design was driven by the idea of photosynthesis as a way to create an impact. A process of transformation used by plants to convert light energy into chemical energy resulting in the production of oxygen. A process that transforms “raw” material into an element. As a main design element, the south and east side of the building, a green wall stands tall to provide insulation and to improve the air quality. The plants reduce the overall temperature of the building and through the process of photosynthesis, the air quality of the internal and external spaces will be improved. This building houses the new addition of the Savannah College of Art and Design. A new culinary institute that combines creativity with the art of food.

Atlanta is the capital city and most populous municipality in the state of Georgia in the United States. It is the cultural and economic center of the Atlanta metropolitan area, home to 5.8 million people and the ninth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. Due to its cultural growth, Atlanta is the perfect site for a school that values creativity and international exposure. Students are exposed to a city that offers connections, inspiration, and growth.

MASSING

SOLAR ORIENTATION

DIVIDING SPACE

The mass sits in between the SCAD Atlanta building, a Christian Church, and highway 85. Its main purpose is to create a new SCAD Culinary facility that will connect students with its community.

To fit with its surrounding context, the main mass is shifted towards the northeast. However, its south wall is modified to point directly towards the south, in order to get the most amount of sun exposure.

The mass is divided into two different spaces in order to provide different programs and allow a better use of its interior space. The west building houses the dorms, classrooms, library, and auditorium. While the east building has all the practical classrooms and the restaurant.

HIERARCHY AND PRIVACY

CONNECTIVITY

GREEN FACADES

The two masses are connected on the third floor in order to allow an efficient circulation between the students. The way the two masses are shaped help to allow summer winds to access the exterior spaces, while at the same time blocking the winter winds.

Standing tall, the south and west facades, function as a reminder of the importance of green spaces in our world. Apart from all of its benefits it makes its mark in Atlanta and serves as a symbol for the students.

The west building is elevated in order to get hierarchy in its city, while at the same time providing privacy on the upper levels. The top 7 floors of the building serve as residential space. The height not only allows privacy, but it also gets the best views of Atlanta.

The rapid development of cities has marked a change in the way we approach our buildings. Urbanization has created enormous social, economic and environmental changes, that provide an opportunity for sustainability, with the potential to use resources more efficiently, to create more sustainable land use and to protect the biodiversity of natural ecosystems.

Benefits

Qualities

Multi-storey facade greening

Includes containers at different heights, support structure for twinning plants, access for maintenance, and irrigation system.

Screening of an unsightly view

The use of evergreen species allows my design to provide year-round screening on the south facade to create a better view from the hectic highway.

Maximize thermal benefits

The vertical green wall is an excellent shading device. It insulates and cools the building envelope as well as protecting it from the natural elements.

Sound barrier and air quality

The green wall acts as a sound proofing barrier in a big city like Atlanta. It also helps to clean the interior space by removing VOCs and other harmful toxins.

Reduces pollution

30

The greenery helps to reduce the urban heat island effect and smog. It also serves to clean the outside air pollutants and dust and offsets the carbon footprint of people and fuel emissions.

BELLE VUE Lacoste, France Studio I Wellness, Mixed-use Duration: 7 Weeks

The goal of this design is to create a Utopian retreat for a yogi community. This place is where intangible dualities are discovered in the physicality of the architecture. Private and public spaces are juxtaposed with natural elements. It is here where fire and water come together as one, and where the body meets the soul. Belle Vue is driven by the desire to explore the body and the inner self. Centered on the connection with natural elements and the peacefulness of an isolated site.

Lacoste serves as the perfect location for this Utopian community due to its location on the map. Lacoste is a medieval village in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d Azur region in the Southeastern of France. Its blue skies, stone buildings and green landscapes make it a dream destination for Buddhists, yoga practitioners and tourists that want to reconnect with themselves. Its picturesque old mountain village overlooks the Grand Luberon Mountains and creates the perfect setting for a peaceful stay. The vernacular architecture and cobblestone streets give the impression of a village where time has stood still. Lacoste also houses students from the Savannah College of Art and Design throughout the entire year. The students bring an interesting addition to a very historic place. A mix of culture and art gather together to find a place of peace and quiet to escape from a hectic lifestyle in the city. Belle Vue is set in a rural area of natural beauty, the new building is sensitive to its surroundings and, as such, the design follows the Buddhist principle of ‘doing the least harm’, by minimizing the impact on the environment. Through the use of simple materials we provide a balance between modesty and reverence for the spiritual aspects of the centre. By connecting its interior spaces to the outdoors, a sense of ease and serenity is achieved. The goal is to accomplish a feeling of enclosure without losing the sense of openness and connection to its town.

SKETCHES During my time as an undergraduate, conceptual drawings and sketches became a fundamental part of designing. Sketching turned into the process that allows me to work through problems graphically. For me, it is the quickest way to flesh out an idea and capture its essence before getting limited by a computer.

T R AV E L S K E T C H E S

Traveling has always been one of my biggest passions. When I was younger, I had the chance to travel to many different countries in order to compete for my country, and it was then when my curiosity to discover the world grew bigger. Nothing compares to the feeling of traveling. Seeing something for the very first time or returning to the places that hold a special place in your heart. It opens your eyes to different cultures and experiences. It shows you the world in different colors and it teaches you to be humble. Sketching has not only become a way of getting my ideas into paper, but it has also been a way of recording some of the places I have been and the experiences that I have had.
