The silvery evergreen foliage and salmon-colored blooms which appear sporadically in winter make this plant stand out amongst the crowd in the cooler months. The best quality is that it produces very little seeds and overall can handle poor soils in a wide range of exposures. The Galphimia gracilis, or Shower of Gold, is native to Eastern Mexico and is a wonderful background plant here in the Southwest offering plentiful clusters of vibrant golden flowers from spring through fall. This fast-growing medium sized shrub reaches about four to six feet tall and wide in warm season. It can be trimmed all the way down to the ground in early spring if not frost damaged to provide a nice compact form.
