Oakmont Village Association (OVA) Information

The Oakmont Village Association (OVA) is a California non-profit mutual benefit corporation. It owns, operates and maintains Oakmont recreational properties on behalf of its members. The OVA’s duties, powers and rights, as set forth in its governing documents, are generally: • To provide athletic, recreational and club facilities for its members and guests.

Oakmont Village Association (OVA) Information Architectural Regulations Oakmont is a planned community of more than 3,200 homes. Each is governed by a recorded declaration of Protective Restrictions. A detailed set of Architectural Guidelines and Standards is administered by the Oakmont Village Association (OVA) Architectural Committee (AC). This Committee is composed of volunteer Oakmont residents who are appointed to the Committee for three-year terms, following confirmation by the OVA Board. All Homeowners are required to apply for and receive approval before any alteration, construction or repair of the exterior of a structure can begin. This includesâ&#x20AC;&#x201D;but is not limited toâ&#x20AC;&#x201D;repainting, re-roofing, installation of exterior air conditioners, windows, doors, construction or replacement of fences, gates, screens and landscaping of any type. Application is also required for garage structural alterations. Routine applications can be handled easily and quickly. They are normally evaluated and approved in the office by the Architectural Office Administrator. Complex or irregular applications and complaints about architectural violations are received/justified by members of the Architectural Committee.

Oakmont Village Association (OVA) Information LOMAA – League of Oakmont Maintained Area Associations LOMAA is an advisory and resource group, with a mission to assist and educate members of the governing boards of Oakmont’s 37 maintained area associations (homeowner associations), such as the neighborhoods represented by signs pictured to the right. All HOA board members are invited to be active in LOMAA meetings and educational efforts. LOMAA is a central source for information on compliance with the Davis-Stirling Act, which consists of legal requirements for common-interest developments, such as our HOA’s. Through the LOMAA board, information is available regarding updated codes, dispute resolution and delinquency procedures. Additionally, through an annual survey, LOMAA gathers information from Oakmont’s HOA governors about such things as dues and insurance amounts paid, as well as costs and satisfaction with contractors used, such as landscapers, painters and arborists. A summary of this data is distributed to the HOA boards of governors at an annual June workshop. The LOMAA board of directors meets monthly, and meetings are open to interested parties. Board members are encouraged to attend periodic educational seminars offered by the Executive Council of Homeowner Associations (ECHO). In addition, the board presents quarterly meetings for members of all of Oakmont’s HOA boards. Guest speakers and materials distributed at these meetings are valuable in assisting HOA board members in carrying out their respective responsibilities. Oakmont Village Association (OVA) Information Our History Oakmont can trace its roots to Arizona developer Del Webb who opened his first five model homes in Sun City in 1960. It was advertised as the first “active adult retirement community” in the country. Enthusiastic buyer acceptance demonstrated that this style of retirement community might have real potential as a model for adoption in many areas of the country, especially in the warmer climates.

The first four new home sales were recorded on the same day, July 31, 1964. Two were on Greenfield Circle and the other two were around the corner on Oakmont Drive. The 100th sale was recorded on August 19, 1965. Much has changed since those first home sales. Houses now have mature landscaping and many have been remodeled. Yet, as the original advertising brochures promised, quality materials and workmanship have worn well. After 50 years, the thoughtfully designed floor plans still function beautifully and the graciousness the developers aspired to achieve is still evident.

This concept caught the attention of H.N. Berger as a possible future development opportunity. He began to quickly acquire land in the Valley of the Moon — made famous by celebrated author Jack London — and pursued developing Oakmont. He borrowed heavily from Webb when his designers laid out a village wrapped around a lush golf course at the foot of Hood Mountain. But Berger went in a new direction. His plan was to create a community that would attract not just the elderly, but also the couples just approaching their retirement years. There would be events and activities for what one early advertisement billed as “the UNretiring Adult community where life begins at 45.” The result was a rural environment that allowed volunteerism to flourish, making Oakmont more like a small town and less like a retirement community.

On September 10, 2013 Oakmont received the Sonoma County “Best Senior Community” Award in the Press Democrat’s 2013 Readers’ choice poll. Oakmont remains special — in a class by itself.

The Oakmont development we see today really began to take shape in 1964. An aerial photograph from the time shows the first structures under construction on Laurel Leaf Place. By June of 1964, models of four custom homes, five cluster homes and three garden apartments were completed, furnished and open for inspection by potential buyers. Prices ranged from $16,650 to $23,950.

Fire Prevention Oakmont has been at the forefront of Santa Rosaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s effort to prevent fires. Residents rallied to support the successful campaign to eliminate the sale and use of fireworks and to assure adequate funding for City Fire Department and EMS services. Our Association is alert and committed to aggressive removal of debris along with early elimination of spring growth high weeds on our community open spaces. We encourage home owners to remove older, easily ignited landscaping.

Our Community Newspaper comes by mail twice monthly, on the 1st and 15th. It offers news, photos, coverage of Oakmont’s governing bodies and management reports. The newspaper is published by the Oakmont Village Association. Club news is contributed by our community’s more than 100 clubs and organizations. News stories and photos are produced by a team of resident volunteers. Most are experienced journalists.

Oakmont Village Association (OVA) Information Activity Centers and Amenities for the Active Adult Oakmont has four major recreational centers where you will find an emphasis on wellness activities for the body and programs to engage the mind. You don’t have to leave our Community to find a full range of amenities. Groups within Oakmont offer classical concerts, art programs, continuing education and current events. We have a computer learning center, state-ofthe-art fitness center, art studio, group exercise studio, tennis courts and swimming pools along with an honorsystem lending library.

Berger Auditorium Located at 6633 Oakmont Drive, this multi-purpose building provides facilities for large social, cultural and educational events along with smaller breakout meeting rooms. Major activities centered here are Movies at Oakmont, Life Long Learning, Annual Art Shows and the Oakmont Concert Series.

Central Activities Center (CAC) The CAC is Oakmont’s newest building and is located at 310 White Oak Drive. Here are card, art and meeting rooms along with an extensive library of bound volumes and digital media. Here, too, is Oakmont’s computer learning center and fitness center. The facility also includes a catering kitchen, large patio for brown bag lunches or receptions. You need to use your electronic card key (available at the OVA Office) to enter the building.

Oakmont Village Association (OVA) Information The FITNESS CENTER is open daily from 5:00am to 9:00pm and features 40 pieces of exercise equipment, free weights, benches, locker rooms and saunas. Insurance requirements mean residents and their guests must be at least 18 and sign a waiver of liability in the OVA office when you get your electronic entry card key.

The OAKMONT LIBRARY, operated by resident volunteers, has more than 19,000 books, magazines, digital movies and music CDs. Open from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm, check-out is by the honor system. Residents are urged to return material they borrow as soon as possible for others to enjoy. The COMPUTER LEARNING CENTER volunteers offer classes for MAC and PC users. Fees are currently $5 per session plus book and material charges. Course descriptions are available in the CAC Lobby and online at www. oakmontlearning.org. The CARD ROOMS feature games of bridge, chess, canasta and dominoes. Our ARTS and CRAFTS STUDIOS are available for painting, ceramics and quilting along with art seminars and live model classes. Just to the east of the CAC is the year around LAWN BOWLING GREEN where members play daily and on the west side is the CENTRAL POOL and SPA. Tucked away behind the pool are our GOLF PUTTING green, PETANQUE courts, HORSESHOE pits and SHUFFLEBOARD facilities.

Oakmont Village Association (OVA) Information East Recreation Center This multilevel facility is located at 7902 Oakmont Drive. Here is where you listen to interesting speakers, watch remarkable documentaries and participate in challenging discussion groups. A large meeting area with excellent audio and video equipment, catering kitchen and adjacent conference room are located on the upper level. It’s a great setting for banquets and a favorite location for private parties. Downstairs you will find a very well equipped BILLIARD/ SNOOKER/CARD room. An outdoor lap pool, spa and locker rooms are also located on the lower level. Four TENNIS COURTS a temporary PICKLE BALL COURT, picnic area and casting pond are located just west the building along with lots of parking.

West Recreation Center This attractive building was built to resemble the historic Hop Kiln that once stood on this site. It is located at 6470 Meadowridge Drive. At “the West” you can participate in exercise classes such as cardio fitness, balance and stretch, Pilates, tai chi, tap dancing, yoga and Zumba. Downstairs features a large exercise studio and upstairs is a versatile space for meetings and activities, including a small catering kitchen. Activities include table tennis, Wii bowling and visual aids workshop. Outdoors there are four tennis courts, a swimming pool frequently used for water fitness classes, Bocce Ball facilities and a large picnic area.

Oakmont Village Association (OVA) Information Community Garden Located on Stone Bridge Road, adjacent to Oak Creek RV and Self Storage, and across the street from the walking trail, the Oakmont Community Garden is used by residents to grow their own veggies and flowers.

Community Bus Service Oakmont contracts with the city of Santa Rosa for a unique, fixed route bus service five days a week. The following two pages illustrate the route and schedule. The medium-size bus pictured here is fully accessible for residents using walkers and wheel chairs.

Oakmont Village Association (OVA) Information Oakmont Golf Club The Oakmont Golf Club (OGC) is located in the very heart of Oakmont, surrounded by the Sonoma and Mayacamas Mountains. The Club offers two 18-hole golf courses designed by the renowned golf architect Ted Robinson. Our Championship West Course offers a variety of challenges, from the water features found on thirteen holes to ubiquitous tree complexes, strategically placed bunkers, and undulating greens. The East Course provides a similar golfing experience, but on a shortened “Executive” layout which many players consider to be even more of a test against par than its longer partner. Both courses are not easy but are walker-friendly.

Oakmont Village Association (OVA) Information

There is a golf shop and practice green at both courses. In addition, a large practice area in the West Course complex includes a double-ended driving range with grass and mat tees, practice bunkers, and a chipping green. Additional facilities include a clubhouse, grill, restaurant and a large banquet space. These can be used for dining as well as special events such as weddings, tournaments, anniversary celebrations, and meetings. Special daily fees are available to residents of Oakmont who wish to just play golf and club memberships are available to those who would like to participate more fully in the vibrant golf club community. A number of Club-wide social and competitive events are sprinkled throughout the calendar year. In addition, the Club has seven active womenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s and menâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s playing clubs which hold weekly golf tournaments suitable for golfers of all abilities, a number of annual special championships and frequent social events.
