With the latest technology in parts identification and cataloguing, and backed by leading Original Equipment (O.E.) suppliers, we have the range and quality of parts in stock to keep fleets on the road. As of July 2014, Fleetwheel Ltd became part of the Picksons Group of companies. Fleetwheel are Wales' number one commercial motor factor, supplying spare parts and accessories for trucks, trailers and buses, from their five sites across South Wales. This exciting move has enabled us to widen our reach and further strengthen our position as the region’s leading supplier of commercial vehicle parts, offering a service that is unparalleled. Picksons and Fleetwheel are members of the Independent Components Distributors (ICD) national supply group, which has been a major factor in the Group’s development, allowing national contracts to be serviced at a local level. They are both also members of the Independent Motor Trade Factors Associated (IFA) buying group, ensuring they get the best market deals and pricing, which is then passed onto their customers.

Our History - Picksons The Pick family has been involved in the motor trade since the late 1940’s, after the end of the Second World War. Percy Pick started his car sales and service business in the village of Old Sodbury, before moving and opening the very successful Roman Camps service station on the busy A46 in the 1950’s, which at the time was the main north-south route through Gloucestershire. In the summer months, it was common for the garage to be open 24 hours and the attached cafe run by Joyce Pick was a popular meeting place. This was supplemented with the addition of tipper trucks and minibuses throughout the 1950’s and 60’s. During the late 1970’s, whilst working in the family haulage business, Colin Pick (Percy’s son) realised there was a demand for a dedicated parts department to service not only the family’s own trucks and workshops, but also other truck owners and workshops in the area. Picksons began trading on 1st January 1979 as an offshoot of the family business, P.D. Pick & Sons. This was located in Quarry Road in Chipping Sodbury and it was running around 15 tippers out of local quarries at the time. With hard work and perseverance Picksons developed and grew, building relationships and trust with customers, and it wasn’t long before Picksons became the core focus of the family business. The haulage and maintenance side of the business stopped and by the early 1980’s Picksons had become solely a parts-based business.

Mixed fortunes over the next 20 years saw periods of growth and downturn as the economy fluctuated, but the dedication to customer service and belief in the business stayed strong. In October 2001 the company expanded and opened a second depot in Avonmouth. This proved very successful and within a few years the depot had outgrown its premises and so moved to the current location in Burcott Road. Continued growth led to the opportunity and opening of a third branch in Gloucester in 2012, a fourth branch followed in 2013 at Bridgwater, a fifth in 2016 in central Bristol and a sixth at Swindon in March 2017. Picksons’ Head Office in Chipping Sodbury also outgrew the premises, so in 2014 moved from Quarry Road to Great Western Business Park, Yate, where it is currently based. In July 2014, Picksons completed the purchase of the controlling share of Fleetwheel Ltd. Based in Cardiff and with five depots across South Wales, Fleetwheel are Wales’ number one commercial parts distributor. The merger has further strengthened the position of both companies and the Picksons Group as a whole. In 2018, we opened a wholesale paint and refinishing division – Farbex Ltd. This is an exciting new venture for us and given our vast existing customer base of fleets and vehicle repairers, this move will add to our all-round product and service offering. Now in its third generation and celebrating 40 years of trading, the Pick family are still very much involved in the business. We are constantly looking to the future and as such we are planning to open our 12th branch in 2019, located in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, to the south of Birmingham.

Our History - Fleetwheel Truck and bus operators in South Wales will be familiar with the successful Fleetwheel specialist motor factor group, but might not know that the company is now part of the Picksons family. The two groups joined forces in 2014, seeing geographical, practical and logistical advantages in pooling their resources, and the end result is an elegant business and commercial fit, giving further economies of scale and buying power advantages that can only aid their customers. Fleetwheel was founded in 1975 by Colin Russell and David Wheeler from a shop premises on Newport’s Commercial Road. With backgrounds in the commercial vehicle friction industry, both realised that there was an opportunity to supply a full range of parts to local truck and bus fleet operators. After a period of steady growth and consolidation, a second branch was opened in Cardiff to meet growing demand. By now, selling front rank OE product, further expansion saw the opening of a third depot in Swansea in the mid 1980s, and the company now boasts five branches. Today Fleetwheel is one of the UK’s major commercial vehicle parts suppliers, with a turnover in excess of £10 million. It is a founder member of the ICD supply group, which has been a major factor in its service provision, allowing national contracts to be overseen locally. Fleetwheel is also an IFA buying group member, so it benefits from the best supply deals. The Fleetwheel brand remains strong, and thanks to intelligent merging of many back office functions and a shared ethos, this Welsh institution and Picksons are a perfect fit.

Our Depots Picksons’ Head Office is located in Yate, with further depots located in Avonmouth, Bridgwater, Bristol, Gloucester and Swindon, as well as Fleetwheel depots in Cardiff, Carmarthen, Newport, Swansea and Tredegar in South Wales. Paint • In February 2018, Picksons launched a coatings, paints and paint consumable range, to complement their commercial, industrial and plant sectors. • Picksons now provides a bewildering range and array of colours and paint finishes for vehicles and plant. • We have employed staff with a combined 100’ years experience to work in our new department. With the expertise now in-house and with top quality manufacturers’ products now on the shelf, we are confident of being able to satisfy nearly all your paint needs. • We stock products from 3M, Indasa, Mirka, HMG, PPG, Nexa, Max Meyer, HB Body, Etalon and many many more high-end manufacturers. • We recognise and can match colour samples of almost anything, from MAN, DAF, Mercedes, CAT, Takeuchi, Kubota, JCB, RAL, British Standard and millions more.
Stock • We have in excess of £3.7 million stock across our depots, with over 20,000 different part references in stock at any one time. • All products carry a minimum of 12 month’s warranty. We work with OE quality suppliers, to ensure that any warranty claims are followed up and investigated fully to help prevent future problems.

ICD The Picksons Group are members of the Independent Components Distributors (ICD), a national group supplying quality truck, bus, trailer and light van parts nationwide. They provide on-demand fast delivery from over 80 depots and have nearly 1,000 delivery vans across the UK. When a commercial vehicle suffers a component failure hundreds of miles from its home base, this poses an acute problem for its operators, but as a member of the ICD supply group, Picksons can swiftly deal with any out-of-area problems. This is because the ICD boasts a nationwide membership of specialist motor factors, sharing excellent communications and stock information from its depots, allowing the right original equipment quality CV and PSV parts to be on their way quickly and efficiently. This is backed up by a complete package of business enhancement services, including management information and central invoicing facilities. The ICD’s Parts Assist Scheme means that if you break down anywhere across the country we can help with parts, as well as local repairers if that’s what you need. ICD has been a major factor in Picksons Group’s development, allowing national contracts to be serviced at a local level. IFA • We are prominent CV members of the Independent Motor Trade Factors Associated (IFA) buying group, also known as the IMTFA. • This ensures we receive the best market pricing available and remain competitive in the marketplace. • All supply deals negotiated through the IFA are regularly reviewed to ensure that we receive the best possible discounts available. • It is our aim to continually reduce costs and provide value for money to our customers; being part of the IFA ensures we do this. • It is widely acknowledged that the IFA receives some of the best deals available and all discounts and cost savings are passed on to our customers.

Training and Apprenticeships Vehicle logistics and parts is a complex business. This means training the next generation of motor factor experts has never been more important. That is why Picksons has joined forces with Reaseheath College and the Independent Motor Trade Factors Associated body to create the UK’s first bespoke commercial vehicle parts apprenticeship course. Commercial vehicle motor factoring skills tend to be found at dealership level but inevitably this means knowledge is concentrated on particular truck makers. This course is designed to provide across-the-board expertise, together with the back office and logistical skills essential for Picksons’ demanding customer base.
