AudioBody Launches: Canadian Talent Can Succeed at Home
Innovative app developer and audio content provider launches in Parkdale, Toronto
Toronto, ON – The AudioBody app, the Instagram of audio, launched today and it’s a Canadian product and service. Chris Sacca, an early investor in Instagram, Twitter, KickStarter, Uber, and AudioBody, stated that “other podcast networks have a platform problem. AudioBody though, is not only an innovative series of applications, but a phenomenal content network.” The new Canadian tech startup is an app, an app network, and a podcast network. The app allows users to post and share audio delivered by the podcast network. It also allows users to record their own content to distribute on the app.
Features of the app include: •
A guide to other apps on the network
•
‘Listening Sessions’ with friends
•
Live chat with friends during podcasts
•
A visual scrolling display of user and network content
AudioBody is also a content producer containing long form interview programs, storytelling programs, narrative journalism, and chat shows are being produced specifically for the app. Specialty apps are also created based on the content of the audio programming. Phillip Benmore, co-founder of AudioBody, said that “there were no mobile audio services that could act as both aggregate and producer, like community radio does. remains independent when it comes to distribution, but is still accessible through more traditional means. We wanted the experience to be live like radio, but with the interactivity of the internet.” Head Paralegal Megan J. Quinton remembers, “The emphasis on providing culturally relevant content was more than just representing a diversity of voices. It was a structurally enshrined in the programing, making sure the apps are accessible to people that may not be able to use tradition points of content distribution.” The charitable arm of AudioBody provides new technology and programming specifically for The Canadian Association of the Deaf and the CNIB. AudioBody employs some of the best programming minds to come out of Canadian institutions, to work in Canada. The programming is not regulated by the CRTC or Canadian content laws, but the vast majority of the content produced by AudioBody itself is Canadian, and that does not include the Canadian user content. According to CIRA, Canadians account for 10% of all YouTube uploads and have produced more content last year than all of the big three networks combined.
