The Orlando Metro Section of APA Florida is committed to diversifying professional development education and the planning industry within Central Florida.

• AAPI Historical Perspective & Current Action event addressed the increase in AAPI hate occurrences during the pandemic

• CreatingInclusiveStreetsevent educates planners on how to create streets for everyone

• Created a Women in Planning Group and are launching a Planners of Color group

• Launching a mentoring project with University of Central Florida

• FemalePow-HerinPlanning event discussed how women are changing the planning landscape

• EDI Training Workshops with CM credits addressed several important topics planners can use in their personal and professional lives

AIA members play a critical role as shapers of the built environment, employers, community leaders, coworkers, and neighbors.

This is important because: A diverse profession serves society and our clients better and helps our firms and organizations to be more successful. We choose to take responsibility to act as champions of inclusion.

Taking active steps within AIA Orlando and the professional community to combat racism, discrimination and bias by partnering with allied organizations to provide programs, tools and resources to current and future firm leaders working towards these shared goals.

We commit to: Understanding and measuring the impact racism and discrimination across our profession and within our organization across the area we serve; and,

FIRM FORWARD PROGRAM: GETREAL COLLABORATIVE • “Facilitate the implementation, adoption and improvement of formal EDI programs by firms” • Help firms to advance their efforts toward becoming inclusive organizations • Empower current and future firm leaders • Provide a gateway to launch new EDI efforts • Get a customized assessment by an experienced professional diversity consultant • Understand the path forward to creating more inclusive and equitable organizations • Grow the ranks of inclusive organizations within our service area (Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Volusia, Polk, and Sumter counties)

• Negotiated contract with DASH to provide services at a discounted rate.

• Build advocates for equity, diversity and inclusion

• Initial Funding by AIA Trust grant awarded in June 2021

• Elizabeth knows Orlando and is familiar with the AIA Guides to Equitable Practice.

• Elizabeth is the former President and CEO of the American Conference on Diversity. She has over two decades of experience in diversity and inclusion work with colleges and universities, foundations, and Fortune 500 companies.

As part of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Network, the industry’s premier business organization, CREW Orlando is dedicated to transforming the commercial real estate industry by advancing women globally. CREW Network’s membership of 12,000 professionals in more than 75 major global markets represents all aspects of commercial real estate—providing our members with direct access to real estate professionals across all geographies and disciplines.

CREW Orlando’s Strategic Initiatives and Accomplishments Benefitting the Central Florida include:community

• CREW Community Mural Project: “Rising Up Parramore” mural painted by women of color honoring those who provided their services to the community of Parramore during segregation

• “CREWS” Scholarship Program: established in 2020 for female college students who are pursuing a career in commercial real estate

• UCREW University Outreach: half day program designed to introduce college students (men and women) to the variety of opportunities available to them in commercial real estate

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) of Central Florida is one of five ULI District Councils in Florida.

ULI Central Florida supports practical solutions to regional issues; shares ideas and experiences on land use and real estate; provides valuable insights; and facilitates exceptional networking.

GETREAL COLLABORATIVE • Urban Plan Workshop in area high schools • DEI Task Force • Identifies areas of partnership and support within Central Florida real estate community • REDi Real Estate Workshop – 5-month training and mentorship program for women and people of color • Provides the following: • hands-on training and mentoring with industry professionals worth $1,500 • Comprehensive real estate curriculum • Free 1-year membership to ULI
