USA Equestrian Trust Opens Application Period For Non-Profit Grants

USA Equestrian Trust is an organization that has given more than 1 million dollars in grants to nonprofit groups that benefit the equestrian community. THE DRESSAGE FOUNDATION ($5,000) to help revamp its website and offer an improved online experience for visitors. The 2013 application deadlines are May 6 and October 7. All applicants must submit a proposed budget for their projects. If you have any questions about applying, please email grants@trusthorses.org.

"The trust is pleased to make our simple online application process even easier," said USA Equestrian Trust President Alan F. Balch. "The trust's leadership continues to be impressed by the many worthy projects seeking to further the rich legacy of horses and equestrian sport."

To apply for funding, visit the trust's newly revamped website at trusthorses.org. The site includes an extensive guide of frequently asked questions to assist applicants, as well as profiles of the work being done by selected past recipients.

The USA Equestrian Trust is pleased to announce IRS-registered equine nonprofit organizations will have two opportunities to apply for funding in 2013 as part of the foundation's grants program. The trust's board expanded the grants program to two periods in 2012 and awarded nearly $335,000 in grants, an increase of almost 70% compared to 2011.

Past recipients include those doing equine health research, land conservation and educational programs. The Trust welcomes applications for need-based projects and encourages applicants to detail those in their applications. All applicants must submit a proposed budget for their projects. USA Equestrian Trust Awards $55,000 In Second Round of 2013 Grants By: Press Release

December 10, 2013 — Lexington, KY — USA Equestrian Trust has awarded $55,000 in grants to help fund four projects by equine non-profits. The awards come on top of nearly $210,000 awarded in May for 10 projects by equine non-profits.

Day 2

USEF EQUINE HEALTH RESEARCH FUND ($25,000) for a research project at the University of California, Davis that is identifying novel drug therapies for the treatment of nervous system disease Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalopathy. The Trust’s next application period will begin early in 2014. Equine non-profits wishing to make a request for funding during that application period will be required to fill out the online application form at www.trusthorses.org. Deadline for Second Round Is October 7 July 17, 2013 — Lexington, KY — USA Equestrian Trust has awarded nearly $210,000 in grants for 10 projects submitted by equine non-profits during the first of the foundation’s two 2013 application periods. The deadline for the Trust’s second grant application period is October 7. Equine nonprofits interested in applying for a grant can do so by using the Trust’s online application form at www.trusthorses.org. Those projects awarded funding were:

AMERICAN YOUTH HORSE COUNCIL ($5,000) to support its annual symposium that educates youth on all facets of the equine industry through demonstrations, presentations and discussions. THE DRESSAGE FOUNDATION ($5,000) to help revamp its website and offer an improved online experience for visitors. HEALING HORSES & ARMED FORCES ($15,600) to assist its equine therapy program for veterans. HORSE PARK OF NEW JERSEY AT STONE TAVERN, INC. ($35,000) to replace the aging lighting system at the park’s indoor arena to better serve its expanded clinic and educational program activities. KENTUCKY HORSE PARK FOUNDATION, INC. ($25,000) to assist in the creation of a dedicated horse path at the Kentucky Horse Park to enhance safety for horses and riders. USEF EQUINE HEALTH RESEARCH FUND ($21,173) for a research project at the University of Minnesota that is using next-generation whole genome sequencing to search for a genetic basis for shivers. USEF U.S. SADDLE SEAT EQUITATION WORLD CUP ($50,000) to assist in hosting the 2014 International Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup. The Trust previously provided grant funding for the U.S. team’s 2012 victory in South Africa. USEF U.S. SADDLE SEAT EQUITATION YOUNG RIDER TEAM ($10,000) to develop riders for future U.S. Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup competitions. The funding will help the Young Rider Team host a competition against two South African teams. UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN ($29,100) to create new online educational materials for eXtension HorseQuest (http://www.extension.org/horses) and My Horse University (http://myhorseuniversity.com). Among the materials to be offered are instructional videos, articles, lessons and webinars. WESTERN DRESSAGE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA ($13,415) to create a video library showcasing Western Dressage, a new discipline inclusive to all breeds of horses. Both the Three-Gaited and Five-Gaited teams won gold medals in the competition, which was held late last year in South Africa. “Of course, the team couldn’t have had such success without the support they received from individuals and groups such as USA Equestrian Trust,” noted Lori Nelson, Assistant Executive Director, USEF National Affiliates. “The funding from the Trust was instrumental in supporting the travel for the team and freed up funds for things such as the team-building practice, which solidified cohesion as a team.” AMERICAN MORGAN HORSE ASSOCIATION: $27,235 was awarded in May 2012 to support AMHA’s youth Equitation medal classes and “Youth of the Year” programs. “AMHA was honored to receive the support of USA Equestrian Trust in 2012 to extend the reach of our Equitation medal program and Youth of the

More Than $1.5 Million Awarded Since 2004 December 10, 2013 — Lexington, KY — USA Equestrian Trust has awarded $55,000 in grants to help fund four projects by equine non-profits. The awards come on top of nearly $210,000 awarded in May for 10 projects by equine non-profits. Since the inception of the Trust’s grants program, the organization has awarded more than $1.5 million in grants. The projects funded as part of the grants period ending in October were:

AMERICAN SADDLEBRED HORSE ASSOCIATION ($10,000) to help redesign its database of registered Saddlebreds, members, competitions and show results, as well as upgrade its website. ARABIAN HORSE ASSOCIATION ($15,000) to assist in revamping its website to help the organization market and promote the breed. SACRAMENTO AREA HUNTER JUMPER ASSOCIATION ($5,000) to offer a free training clinic to its members, who are entry-level exhibitors and low-budget owners. The money for this grant was allocated from funding reserved for Hunter/Jumper activities in California and Nevada. USEF EQUINE HEALTH RESEARCH FUND ($25,000) for a research project at the University of California, Davis that is identifying novel drug therapies for the treatment of nervous system disease Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalopathy. The Trust’s next application period will begin early in 2014. A grant of $US25,000 has been made for a project at University of California, Davis, for help in identifying novel drug therapies for the treatment of nervous system disease Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalopathy.

Sites

Davis researchers have been studying the disease, which caused by two different parasites. The single-celled protozoal parasite Sarcocystis neurona, which is shed in the feces of opossums, is the most commonly recognized cause of this neurological disease in horses.

The grant, to the US Equestrian Federation Equine Health Research Fund, was made in the latest round of grants totalling $55,000 to help fund projects by equine non-profitsg by the USA Equestrian Trust. The awards come on top of nearly $210,000 awarded in May for 10 projects by equine non-profits.
