Tur The Washington (D.C.) International Horse Show welcomes Bridget Love Meehan as the new executive director. A rider and competitor herself, Meehan arrives at WIHS after having worked with Discovery Communications, a non-fiction media company, since 2004. Earlier in her career, Meehan, Washington, D.C., was vice president and managing director at an event production organization, Hayes & Associates. Before that, she acted as the director of communications for the U.S. Equestrian Federation. WIHS President Juliet Reid acknowledged that Meehan’s familiarity with the horse show was a plus. “Bridget brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the areas of marketing and sponsorship, and she has a strong background and understanding of the requirements needed to produce a world class event. Having taken part in WIHS as a spectator, an exhibitor and a member of the marketing and communications committee, she brings a unique perspective to our team," said Reid.

Winning is what Buffed Chrome does best: The petite mare was the Palomino Horse Breeders of America's top palomino and top performance horse while she also led the way in the youth 14-18 high-point all-around championship and the novice youth category as the 2010 awards were presented last weekend in Oklahoma. Even more impressive, it was a repeat performance for Buffy, who earned the association's highest honor in 2008 as

It seems inevitable at this point that protective headgear eventually will be mandatory for all ages and divisions that are under the U.S. Equestrian Federation, which passed such a rule for eventing and dressage earlier this year. The Washington International Horse Show has a new lease on life after the signing of a three-year agreement with the Verizon Center, its home in the heart of the city. There were always rumors that the show would not be able to survive because of the high cost of putting it on in an urban area at a major arena. The agreement should silence the naysayers. And despite the inconveniences involved, such as stabling on the street, exhibitors continue to make the show a goal because it enjoys a special cachet from being in the nation's capital.
