In Topsail Beach: Two beach wheelchairs are available for visitors and residents. Reservations and information are available from the Topsail Beach Police Department. (910-328-4851) or visit online at www.topsailbeach.org/Departments/ Police/Beach-Wheelchair

The insider’s scoop on what you need to know at the beach... We’re one of the pet-friendliest islands in North Carolina. In Surf City, dogs are allowed on the beach, but must be on a leash at all times. In the Town of Topsail Beach, in season, dogs must be on a leash, however, from Oct. 1st – May 14th, dogs are permitted off leash as long as they are under voice command. Remember the turtles, lights out! If you are beachfront, please turn off the rear porch and deck lights. Turtles are drawn to light and if the porch light is on facing the beach, turtles, especially hatchlings, become disoriented and die. They need to be guided by the moonlight. Secondly, if you dig a hole in the sand on the beach, please fill it in. In addition to human injury, the sea turtles can become

trapped and injured. You are welcomed to set up tents and chairs, but leaving these items on the beach overnight is prohibited. Glass is prohibited on the beach. There is no overnight camping on the beach. Do not use charcoal grills on the beach. Stay off the dunes. Walking on the dunes will result in a $500 fine. Do not park on sidewalks. If you think you have a great parking spot on the side of the road, remember, both sets of tires must be off the pavement. Remember to respect our property owners.

Traditional golf carts are not permitted on the roadways in Topsail Beach. Low Speed Vehicles equipped with headlamps, stop lamps, turn signals, tail lamps, reflex reflectors, parking brakes, rearview mirrors, windshields, windshield wipers, speedometer, seat belts, and a vehicle identification number are permitted.

Things to do when you need a break from the sun while on your Topsail Island Vacation... Here are our suggestions on what to do: Shop! We have many wonderful shops and boutiques to explore.Visit many of our local shops to find those perfect souvenirs and that one of a kind gift. Dine at our locally owned restaurants.Visit with the locals. We love it! Head on over to the Missiles and More Museum in the afternoon for an adventure to learn about pirates, rockets and a display that may well be the world’s largest seashell collection. Located at 720 Channel Blvd., admission is free. Watch for free programs too! Go directly to Topsail Island Trading Company to purchase Topsail-Opoly, a new take on an old favorite. This game board features all things Topsail! While there, be sure to pick up some of their wonderful fudge! Discover Your Favorite Ice Cream & Frozen Treats, located on the island! Pender County and the Topsail Island area has many great places to satisfy your sweet tooth and those hot days with many ice cream & frozen treats to choose from with all kinds, flavors, and toppings! Check out some of our favorite ice cream shops. You might have to stand in line in the sun or with an umbrella, but the wait is worth a tour of the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. See where the turtles are nurtured and readied for release. Admission fees.

Game time? How about Miniature Golf and Putt-Putt! Pender County is home to two family fun mini-golf courses – Shipwreck Point Golf and Patio Playground. Ice Cream & putt-putt at Patio Playground! It’s Topsail’s Best Ice Cream Shop! Visit this throwback roller skating rink, Topsail Skating Rink, located above the Topsail Beach Post Office. Visit Poplar Grove Plantation, the farmer’s market kicks off their season on the front lawn of the beautiful, Historic Poplar Grove on Wednesdays each week, open from 8 am - 1 pm. The Farmer’s Market at Poplar Grove provides an opportunity for local growers and producers to sell their goods directly to consumers. The plantation has history of peanut farming, Civil War, and Gullah Geechee Heritage. Drive to Burgaw and see where shows like Revolution, Under the Dome, and countless movies were filmed. Shop & dine while letting the locals tell you about filming! Experience Moores Creek National Battlefield, both the History Trail and Tar Heel Trails offer great views of park resources, and a glimpse into the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge. Park visitors can pick up their Passport stamp and park brochure, as well as brochures for other historic sites around the area.

Canetuck Community Center The Canetuck Community Center, formerly the Canetuck Rosenwald school, was constructed as a twoteacher Rosenwald school in western Pender County, NC. It opened in 1922 and was purchased back by the

In 2009 there was a complete exterior restoration of the building, ensuring that this important building can be used for years to come making it one of the oldest standing Rosenwald Schools left standing in the state. Pender County Courthouse The courthouse is one of the most attractive historical buildings in Burgaw. Built on November 6, 1936, this three-story structure was designed with several unique features by William Henley Dietrick. The brick-veneered H-shaped structure holds a mixture of Georgian Revival and Colonial Revival architecture features. The building is historically known for its architecture and engineering design. The courthouse was renovated in 1989 by Wilmington Architect, John Sawyer. Take a scroll under the 100-year-old oak trees on the courthouse square and notice the distinctive architectural features of the unique building.

Poplar Grove Plantation With Southern Charm, Poplar Grove Plantation was once the largest peanut plantation in NC. It offers tours of the Manor House museum as well as the grounds and outbuildings. Being over 100 years old, Poplar Grove features thousands of artifacts and several exhibits on life in the 1800’s including Agriculture, Civil Rights, the Gullah Geechee Culture, the Foy Family tree and more. In addition to day tours, they also offer nightly Paranormal investigation tours and they have an animal rescue where visitors can get a hands-on experience with animals that were important to farming and life. Pender County Museum Preserving the history of Pender through documents, artifacts, photos, and a genealogy collection. The house contains the Mattie Bloodworth Room, a collection of WWII Veterans remembrances, several family bibles, civil war information, clothes from the 19th century, old medical equipment and many other artifacts from years gone by.
