Latin and Caribbean cuisine on wheels.

The Last Taino is a food truck that locals just can’t get enough of. Although their food is categorized as Puerto Rican, their menu offers a large variety of dishes. Each dish has a twist like their homemade house sauce that is often served on the side or incorporated in the dish.

The Last Taino food truck can be found at 206 E. Main Street in Wallace Thursday through Saturday. Owners Yancy Guilbe, better known as the “Boss Lady,” and her son Luis Guilbe, both from Puerto Rico have gained a following for their tasty food. From chicken and waffes, to cheesesteaks whether you are in the mood for tacos and beans, or if it’s breakfast you’re craving, The Last Taino keeps happy customers coming back for more.

The mother and son team take pride in their food and their culture. They named their food truck The Last Taino in honor of their roots and because of its ties to the Taino tribe.

Boss Lady said she learned her skills in the kitchen from her mom. For her, cooking isn’t a job and shared that seen people happy to eat her food makes her feel accomplished.

Cow an Museum

Founded more than four decades ago by George and Ila Cowan, The Cowan Museum of History & Science in Kenansville offers a spectacular collection of locally-sourced farm instruments.

The museum’s main area is housed in the Kelly-Farrior House, built circa 1848, adjacent to six outbuildings and a botanical garden.

World’s Largest Frying Pan

Located in the heart the Town Square, the two-ton, 15foot frying pan is a staple of the town. Though there’s no offcial log of visitors, it’s estimated that thousands visit the frying pan each year.

The frying pan is a large deep fryer with eight sections, each heated by a gas burner. The frying pan is kept covered when not in use, and is sheltered from the elements by a red-roof gazebo.

Built by the Ramsey Feed Company, as a tribute to the area’s poultry industry, the frst chicken was cooked in the fall of 1963 for the town’s inaugural Poultry Jubilee.

Outdoor adventures abound at Juniper Creek Outftters in Chinquapin.

Located at Lee Baysden Pond, this family retreat includes a 22-acre private lake with paddle boats, kayaks and canoe rentals for campers to enjoy. This beautiful hidden spot does not only offer camping, and activities for the whole family but also offers excellent Bass fshing and hunting opportunities. Owners Contessa and Tyler Jones recently added a couples Glamping cabin. The beautiful rustic A-frame cabin is made of rough-cut poplar and

features serene lake views, hot running water, AC/Heat, and a mini fridge among several others.

Junipers Creek has nine lakeside RV/ tent sites with electric and water hookups. Five primitive tent sites, with two new additions made for large groups.

“We have had the pleasure of hosting a group of Royal Rangers in the bigger sites and helping judge their competitions and private fshing tournaments,” said Contessa.

Known for their yearly fshing tournaments, they have now added a Pro Staff Fishing Team who is excited to share their knowledge. Among the species found in the lake are Bass, Pike,

Bowfn, Catfsh and Crappie.

“We have a lot of fun with private tournaments and games,” said Contessa. “We are currently tagging different size bass to watch their growth, patterns caught, and overall health. We’ve been adding more fsh structures and habitats and monitoring our fsh management program.”

Contessa shared that the hunting and guides service portion of JCO is expanding and will be relocated nearby for the fall and winter so they can keep camping and fshing open throughout the year.

The Traveling Gypsy in Wallace is like no other shop. Nicole Rainey took her passion for international wares, unique fnds and eclectic clothing and made it her business, opening The Traveling Gypsy in 2022.

Guests cross original mosaic tiles and wood framed glass doors to enter a clothing paradise. They try on clothing in red velvet tents suspended from the ceiling.

Many times the size on the tag is much smaller than normal and more fgure fattering; it’s the Gypsy magic. Rainey says she believes every woman is gorgeous and deserves to feel that way. Her shop gives women that opportunity in a number of ways: the retail shop, Gypsy Brows, and The Recycled Gypsy.

Rainey travels to trade shows all over the U.S. to bring in unique fnds for the shop. Hand-tooled Myra Bags from India, beaded journals from Turkey, and Vervet Denim from California are just some of the unique, high end wares she carries. Every piece is hand picked to maintain a consistent traveled, eclectic, effortless Boho style.

Starry Night Studio

Starry Night Studio in Calypso is a beautiful respite named after artist Mary Barwick’s favorite painting by Vincent Van Gogh.

Reproductions of Starry Night are sprinkled throughout the space. Paintings and clay creations hang from the walls and fll shelves lining the space.

For Mary creativity began sitting under her mom’s sewing machine, collecting fabric trimmings, and gluing them into collages with other sewing notions, as she grew older her art blossomed with multiple mediums. Creating with more than one material is a practice that continues to keep Mary’s art alive and interesting.

Original pottery as well as custom ordered pieces are available for purchase through open houses or by appointment. Classes are offered for children and adults alike every month.
