Although it sat on the shelf for a year after completion while the first COVID-19 pandemic raged at its worst, Shawn Levy’s sweetly funny 2021 action comedy scored a substantial success when it eventually hit theaters, charming many critics as well. Ryan Reynolds stars in the title role of Guy, a mild-mannered bank teller who discovers quite belatedly that he’s actually a non-player character (NPC) in a massive online video game. Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”), Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar (TV’s “Ghosts”) and Taika Waititi co-star.

8 p.m. on HALL Movie: Welcome to Mama’s

After the maternal owner (Lorraine Bracco) of a Brooklyn, N.Y., restaurant unexpectedly dies, her young friend Amy (Melanie Scrofano, “Wynonna Earp”) is stunned to discover the late “Mama” bequeathed the eatery to her. A trained restaurant manager herself, Amy decides to team up with Frank (Daniel di Tomasso, “Dynasty”), a charming if somewhat egotistical master chef, and re-launch the business to help the community that loved both the place and its endearing proprietor. Overcoming some initial differences, the couple learn the secret ingredient Mama always favored is love.

This fact-based drama chronicles the ordeal of a teenager from North Conway, N.H., who was abducted while walking home from school one day. Abby Hernandez (Lindsay Navarro) was only 14 when her kidnapper, Nathaniel Kibby (Ben Savage), snatched her, keeping her captive for nine months in a large storage container, where he subjected her to sexual assault and torture before finally releasing her. Erica Durance also stars.

A seven-time Image Award winner himself, Anthony Anderson (“Law & Order”) hosts this year’s celebration of Black excellence, which will take place without a live audience presence again this year due to the unpredictable course of the coronavirus pandemic. HBO’s recently concluded sitcom “Insecure” leads in nominations for the television and streaming categories, while singer-songwriter H.E.R. received the most nods in the music recording categories. Performers vying for Entertainer of the Year are Jennifer Hudson, Lil Nas X, Megan Thee Stallion, Regina King and Tiffany Haddish.
