As her celebrated career in music continues, Jennifer Nettles has been building another one in unscripted television.
A winner of many awards (including Grammys) as a member of countr y music’s Sugarland, Nettles also is a solo artist, and she has extended her brand by ser ving as a judge on the series “Duets” and “Go-Big Show.” She potentially expands her reach again by playing host as four rural men seek mates from citybased prospects in a Fox revival of “Farmer Wants a Wife,” premiering Wednesday, March 8.
Originated in England, “Farmer Wants a Wife” has yielded a number of international versions, the first U.S. one having aired on The CW in 2008. The friendly Nettles admits that reality television is “ not my favorite genre, so I’m super-selective about the projects I choose. This one really stood out to me because it’s so different. Ever yone who’s involved gets a chance to really look at everyone else, so it’s authentic, and that’s what I appreciate.”
Deeming herself a “ stor yteller” no matter which aspect of her work she focuses on, Nettles believes that “Farmer Wants a Wife” also fulfills that designation for her She calls it “a television fair y tale. It’s really heartwarming to see these folks who are out there looking for love ... and who doesn’t love a love stor y? That’s what really drew me to it, to see that take place in real time, and for people who are in it for the right reasons. ”
Explaining that she’s much more involved directly with the farmers on the show than with the women who are candidates to become their wives, Nettles likens her “Farmer Wants a Wife” role to that of “a fair y godmother, in a ‘mentor’ sort of way, to help them through this process. It is quite intimidating, I think, for them to take on a task like opening up their hearts and making themselves vulnerable – and doing it while cameras are around.”
Also an actress, having starred on Broadway in “Chicago” and “Waitress” and having made a couple of Dolly Parton-inspired NBC holiday movies, Nettles maintains that music remains the strongest part of her professional mix. Her most recent solo album was the 2021 cover-version collection “Always Like New,” and she maintains that she isn’t certain when she might reteam with Sugarland partner Kristian Bush again.
“ There are lots of ways to tell stories,” Nettles reflects, who also has been making a movie in Atlanta lately. “ While music is obviously my first love, I’ve been expanding over the past 10 years into TV and film and theater That’s mostly been on the scripted side, but it’s fun to do unscripted things, too It’s all worked out wonderfully well.”

That’s My Jam Music takes you places especially if you’re traveling with Jimmy Fallon. “The Tonight Show” host returns with Season 2 of one of the most eclectic musical variety shows imaginable. A spin off of the various music segments from the aforementioned late night show such as “Turn the Beat Around,” “Doombox” and “Undercover Covers,” it features Fallon with a slew of celebrity guests being silly but sounding great.
The Season 2 premiere episode features the restoration and renovation of a cool 1800’s home that was originally a potting shed on the Henry Huttleston Rogers estate. The home has an interesting history, as its original oil tycoon owner who was a close associate of John D. Rockefeller, a benefactor of Helen Keller, and a friend of Mark Twain. The new owners love the home’s character, but need modern functionality and design incorporated into the kitchen

Angelina Jolie plays action heroine again, in a very big way, in this adventure of a CIA operative accused by a defector of being a double agent. She goes on the lam to prove her innocence, as former colleagues pit their skills against hers to try to catch her and bring her in. Director Phillip Noyce includes Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor in his cast but this clearly is the energetic Jolie’s show. The film airs as part of a marathon honoring International Women’s Day.

Five Oscars, including best picture, best director (William Friedkin) and best actor (Gene Hackman), went to this high-octane (and largely fact-based)
1971 police drama in which narcotics officer “Popeye” Doyle (Hackman) and his partner (Roy Scheider) take on a drug ring shipping heroin into the United States. The film includes one of the most memorable pursuit sequences in screen history.
Fernando Rey, who returned with Hackman in a sequel, and Tony Lo Bianco also star.

Christian Bale assumed the role of Gotham City’s caped crusader — or, more accurately in this case, Dark Knight — in director Christopher Nolan’s (“Memento”) 2005 reinterpretation of the saga. Batman’s alter ego, Bruce Wayne, is assisted by several mentors (Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine) en route to teaming up with a childhood friend (Katie Holmes) to stop the fearsome Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy).
“Splendor in the Grass” (1961)
“Introducing Warren Beatty” was par t of the billing for director Elia Kazan’s celebrated drama about the complex romance between two young people (Beatty, Natalie Wood). The Oscar-winning script is by William Inge.
“Lilith” (1964) Writer-director Rober t Rossen’s final film features Beatty as a novice therapist who takes an extreme interest in one of his patients (Jean Seberg) at a private institution.

“McCabe and Mrs. Miller” (1971) Director Rober t Altman’s Western pairs Beatty with Julie Christie as a wily gambler and the woman he hires to operate the brothel he opens.
“The Parallax V iew” (1974) In producerdirector Alan J. Pakula’s excellent thriller, a maverick repor ter (Beatty) looks into a series of
mysterious deaths among those who witnessed the assassination of a presidential candidate.
“Shampoo” (1975) Producer and co-writer Beatty is terrific as a hairdresser who ser vices female clients in other ways than just giving them new looks, putting him in hot water when he’s among several of them at a party on the eve of the 1968 presidential election.
“Reds” (1981) Beatty won an Oscar for directing this three-hours-plus epic (which he also produced and co-wrote) in which he plays journalist John Reed during coverage of the Russian Revolution.
