After 17 seasons of weekday food and fun, the kitchen is closing for “Rachael Ray.”
That’s the program that goes by that name, not the title personality, who is already looking toward new media horizons for herself.
The last episode of her syndicated talk show airs Wednesday, May 24, and it’s sure to celebrate many of the top moments Ray has put forth over the better part of the past two decades — both as a culinary and lifestyle authority, and as someone whose interviewing skills have developed considerably during the show’s run.
“I’m a good cook who learned how to talk to anybody over time,” the ever-lively Ray says in assessing the longevity of her eponymous show, “and that’s because of practice. I have always believed that anybody in America can be successful at anything if they can close their eyes and see themselves trying it. If you’re not ashamed of where you come from, you never have to be ashamed of where you might go.”
When “Rachael Ray” began in 2006, its bubbly host already was widely known for the cooking shows she made principally for Food Network, including “30 Minute Meals,” a concept the former waitress and pub manager originated while she was a buyer for an upscale food market in Upstate New York. She parlayed that job into classes she taught to customers, which drew the interest of an area television station; the segments she did there paved the way for NBC’s “Today” to feature her regularly, then for Food Network to begin showcasing her. Recurring spots on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” progressed to the point where Winfrey became an executive producer of Ray’s own talk show from its inception.
Throughout the run of “Rachael Ray,” the host has had a true partner in her husband, musician and lawyer John Cusimano. Besides contributing melodically to the program, he effectively became Ray’s co-host when the coronavirus pandemic forced her to shift production from a Manhattan studio to the couple’s home in Lake Luzerne, New York.
As for what lies ahead for Ray, she intends to work again with many of her “Rachael Ray” colleagues in channeling much of her focus and energy into her new venture, Free Food Studios. It has a commitment for an A&E series tentatively titled “Rachael Ray Meals in Minutes,” the first effort in a new library of programming she intends to build with fellow producers she has worked with before. She also plans to nurture new talent in the food-show space.
“There’s tons of great content out there, now more than ever,” Ray reasons. “We’re going to be working on platforms on multiple levels. The world is constantly changing in that way, and I feel so lucky as an American woman in her 50s to still be relevant. It’s exciting and cool, and it proves the point that you can do anything you want.”

“Conan the Barbarian” (1982): The sheer physique that Schwarzenegger displayed was more than enough to make him perfectly suitable for the title role of this famously violent adventure.
“The Terminator” (1984): “He’ll be back,” indeed … and Schwarzenegger was, in several sequels to this James Cameron-directed action classic that was conflated by some with another “role” the star had later to get him dubbed “The Governator.”
“Predator” (1987): A clever merging of brawny military adventure and sci-fi saga casts Schwarzenegger as the leader of a team sent into a jungle on a mission that eventually pits them against a lethal alien.
“Total Recall” (1990): Easily one of Schwarzenegger’s best movies, director Paul Verhoeven’s intriguing sci-fi fantasy features the star as a
man who carries another person’s memories on Mars. And that’s just one slice of the plot that also includes Sharon Stone and probably the most unusual cabbie you’ve ever seen.
“Kindergarten Cop” (1990): Though the picture has its tougher moments, this Schwarzenegger vehicle has mass appeal as his police-detective character opposes as a schoolteacher and wins over his very young class.
“Terminator 2: Judgment Day” (1991): Some smart shifts are made in Schwarzeneggerʼs character – giving him an upgraded, even deadlier Terminator (Robert Patrick) to deal with – in this excellent sequel.
“True Lies” (1994): Though this movie became a television series almost 30 years later, director James Cameronʼs original version remains great fun thanks
to Schwarzenegger as a very secret secret agent and Jamie Lee Curtis as his wife, who learns his true profession in a complicated way.
“Eraser” (1996): Schwarzenegger sees plenty of action as a marshal in the Witness Protection Program who tries to keep a corporate whistleblower (Vanessa Williams) safe … but some of his opponents turn out to be quite close to home.
“End of Days” (1999): Schwarzenegger goes up against the Devil, playing a private security operative trying to keep a vessel for Satan (Gabriel Byrne) from harming the intended target (Robin Tunney).
“The 6th Day” (2000): Shocked to find that a clone of himself has replaced him at home, a man (Schwarzenegger) sets out to make things right before he can be eliminated.

“Nancy Drew: Season 4” (CW — final season premiere, May 31)
The fourth and final season of the mystery drama follows legendary teen detective Nancy Drew (Kennedy McMann, “Tell Me Lies”) as she solves crimes in the town of Horseshoe Bay, Maine, with her friends George (Leah Lewis, “The Half of It,” 2020), Nick (Tunji Kasim, “The Good Liar,” 2019), Bess (Maddison Jaizani, “Into the Badlands”) and Ace (Alex Saxon, “The Fosters”). In the new season, Nancy launches an investigation to find a group of bodies that have been dug up and stolen from the Horseshoe Bay cemetary.
“Deadloch” (Prime Video — series premiere, June 2)
The Tasmanian town of Deadloch, a once sleepy seaside hamlet, is left reeling when a local man turns up dead on the beach. Two female detectives are thrown together to solve the case: Fastidious local Senior Sergeant Dulcie Collins (Kate Box, “Rake”) and a rough as guts blow in from Darwin, Senior Investigator Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami, “Super City”), along with their overeager junior constable Abby (Nina Oyama, “Utopia”). As the town prepares to launch the annual arts, food and culture event - Winter Feastival - the trio have to put their differences aside and work together to find the killer.

“Queen of the Universe: Season 2” (Paramount+ — season premiere, June 2) This reality series follows the world’s most talented drag queens as they battle it out for global domination, and countries go head-to-head spotlighting their top talent. Each episode features the world’s fiercest queens as they debut a new musical performance in front of a live audience and the Pop Diva Panel of judges in the hopes of being crowned the “Queen of the Universe.”
