“Snowfall” (FX — season premiere, Feb. 22)

It’s October 1986 in the Season 6 premiere episode “Fallout,” as civil war threatens to destroy the Saint family. Franklin (Damson Idris) is desperate and forced to rob his Aunt Louie (Angela Lewis) and Uncle Jerome (Amin Joseph) after being wiped out by former CIA officer Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson). Meanwhile, Louie has taken over Franklin’s role as Teddy’s sole buyer, undercutting her nephew and creating a competing empire in the process. Franklin is now faced with losing everyone he loves and everything he’s built.

Mer yl Streep is entering ‘Building’

Q: Is it true that Meryl Streep is joining “Only Murders in the Building”? – Jan Holly, Sacramento, Calif.

A: It is. The legendar y actress will reunite with Steve Mar tin – with whom she worked in the 2009 movie “It’s Complicated” – when she becomes a cast member for Season 3 of the Hulu comedymyster y series. Her role hadn’t been detailed as of this writing, but it’s known that Paul Rudd also will be in the new round, reprising his par t from the Season Broadway actor Mar tin Shor t and Selena Gomez will be back as well, but also murky is when exactly Season 3 of the show will star t running. It’s in production now, and the debut traditionally has been in the summer – August 2021 for the first season, and June last year – so it’s entirely possible that the same pattern could continue.

Q: What was the reason that the supporting actor and actress categories for television were presented together at the Critics Choice Awards? – Amanda Rowe, via email

A: We’d imagine it was an attempt to conser ve time, though the CW telecast had three hours to play with. As viewers saw, it could take some time for a winner to negotiate crossing the ballroom at Los Angeles’ Fairmont Centur y Plaza Hotel to get to the stage, depending on where the person was seated. (Trust us, we know: We’ve been in that spacious room.) The concept of having two winners at once seemed to work fairly well, with each taking his or her turn cour teously, and no one “stepping” on anyone else to get there first. We found Henr y Winkler (who won for HBO’s “Barr y”) and Sher yl Lee Ralph (ABC’s “Abbott Elementar y”) to be a par ticularly good example of that. There’s no guarantee that approach will continue to be used in the future, but it was interesting to see how it went this year

– Fox’s Burkhardt joins elite Super Bowl play-by-play club

It’s not lost on Fox’s Kevin Burkhardt that he’s about to join a pretty exclusive club – that he’ll be one of only a dozen to call play-by-play on a Super Bowl telecast in the game’s 57-year history. And he’s pretty psyched about it.

“I looked that up when I got the job,” the New Jersey native admits. “Like it’s important to me. I don’t take it lightly. And then the other part of it is I’m really excited to do it with Greg (Olsen, analyst). I’ve known him for a long time, we’re really good friends and to kind of be able to jump on this journey with him this year ... and go through this together, I’m thrilled. It’s fun.”

Burkhardt will be in the booth alongside analyst Olsen at State Farm Stadium near Phoenix to call the action on Super Bowl LVII between the champions of the AFC and NFC on Sunday, Feb. 12. For Fox Sports, this represents a pretty significant changing of the guard. For years since 2005, Joe Buck and Troy Aikman fronted its Super Bowl

coverage. But when they departed for ESPN prior to this season, the network promoted Burkhardt and Olsen to its “A” team.

Now ready to do his first NFL title game, Burkhardt acknowledges that there will be a few butterflies as well as the temptation to do more on what is usually the broadcasting network’s highestrated telecast of the year But in the end, he says, you just have to treat it as another day at the office.

“I can promise you that the way I go about it and the way that I’ve done it for 10 years at Fox is going to be the same exact way,” he says. “You know, when I got elevated this year when Joe went over to ESPN, every offseason you kind of look at your routine and what you could do differently to make it better and just kind of self-evaluate. But I didn’t change anything about the way that I go about my business because it’s what got me here.”

And “here” is alongside such distinguished play-byplay men ranging from Buck, Al Michaels and Jim Nantz to Pat Summerall, Curt Gowdy and Jack Buck (Joe’s father). Burkhardt allows that at some point on Sunday, he’ll likely take a step back, look around and drink in the experience, in what is really the pinnacle of any broadcaster’s career

“I’ve done that a lot ...,” he says. “You know, there’s a part of me that’s like, ‘Is this real?’ ”

Super Bowl LVII airs Sunday on Fox.

“We did a Vikings/Giants (Wild Card) game,” he continues, “and middle of the game – it’s a great game, there’s a key third down, the crowd’s going nuts – and (Greg and I) laid out and I just kind of looked around for a second, took a quick snapshot in my head and just (thought), ‘How fun is this to be here for this.’ So I absolutely will do that, no doubt.”

The PGA season is in ‘Full Swing’ in Netflix docuseries

With golf season on the horizon, a show like “Full Swing” is well-timed.

Premiering Wednesday, Feb. 15, on Netflix, the documentar y series from Vox Media and Box to Box Films follows a diverse group of professional golfers on and off the course as they endure the high-stakes pressure of competing on the spor t’s highest level, the PGA Tour, during the 2022 season.

So in the eight episodes, viewers will get a behind-thescenes look at top players such as Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Ror y McIlroy and Jordan Spieth as they vie in golf ’s biggest events, including all four majors, the Players Championship and the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

It’s red meat for any golf fan who is more than ready to get out on the links after a long winter The following are a few other golf films that can be streamed right now.

“Tiger” (Spectrum): The life, career and scandals of 15time Grand Slam champ Tiger Woods are chronicled in this two-par t 2021 documentar y from HBO Max that features inter views with Woods’ former caddie Steve Williams, Nick Faldo, Br yant Gumbel and Rachel Uchitel, who was at the center of Woods’ infidelity scandal.

“The Greatest Game Ever Played” (Disney+): Bill Paxton’s second directorial effor t resulted in this superb 2005 historical drama about the showdown between 20-year-old Francis Ouimet (Shia Labeouf) and his idol Harr y Vardon (Stephen Dillane) at the 1913 U.S. Open.

“The Legend of Bagger Vance” (Pluto): Director Rober t Redford’s solid 2000 fantasy drama placed Will Smith on the links as the mystical caddy of the title, who helps a down-and-out pro golfer played by Matt Damon recover his game.

“Tin Cup” (Prime Video, Apple TV+): Kevin Costner stars in director Ron Shelton’s 1996 comedy as a washed-up golfer who works at a driving range while getting ready to qualify for the U.S. Open and hopefully win the love of his rival’s girlfriend (Rene Russo).

TCM gives Shirley Temple a night of her own

The history of movies has yielded a lot of stars, but Shirley Temple is a special As a juvenile, she was one of the most popular and successful performers ever age group with her ever-optimistic screen demeanor giving joy and hope to countless audience members at a time when the world, and America in particular, had a for those during the strife-fraught 1930s. A couple of days past the ninth anniversar her passing, Turner Classic Movies devotes a night to Temple with a double feature Sunday, Feb. 12.

The first attraction is 1935’s “Curly Top,” which Temple made as part of one four films that year (when she also was given a special Oscar for her young stardom). This release also became legendary for her performance of a song that became a of her career, “Animal Crackers in My Soup.” The story featured Temple as an orphan considered for adoption, along with her older sister (Rochelle Hudson), by a wealthy man (John Boles).

Concluding TCM’s Temple double bill is the John Ford-directed “Wee Willie Winkie (1937), which she cited as her favorite of the many projects she made. Based on Rudyard Kipling story, it features Temple as the granddaughter of an India-stationed military colonel (C. Aubrey Williams) who joins him, along with her mother, and becomes particularly close to one sergeant (Victor McLaglen, with whom Temple shares a somewhat iconic scene).

Temple’s stock in the film industry saw Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer attempt to hire her away to play Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz,” but her contract-holding studio rejected the effort. Though she left the business in the 1940s, she returned for a while and had adolescent roles in such pictures as “The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer” and “Fort Apache.”

The last major career chapter for Temple was in politics, with several jobs of an ambassadorial nature. However, for many fans of different generations, it’s her work as a child star that endures most prominently ... and at least for one night, TCM will bring that back to the forefront.

It’s the story of how drug trafficking in the 1970s and ’80s transformed Miami, thanks to Columbia’s Medellin cartel. Director Billy Corben uses the firsthand accounts of three men involved in the trade, as well as lots of bloody crime scene photos and the re-enactment of one particularly grisly 1979 shootout.

“Movie: A Long Way Down”

Toni Collette and Pierce Brosnan head the cast of this 2014 British comedy about four strangers who meet on New Year’s Eve and form a sort of surrogate family to help one another get through the difficult times in their lives. Directed by Pascal Chaumeil (“A Perfect Plan”), the film’s talented cast also boasts Imogen Poots, Aaron Paul, Rosamund Pike and Sam Neill.

“Wu-Tang: An American Saga”

The third and final season of this drama series finds the members of the Wu Tang Clan following their own separate musical paths as money, fame, ego and business threaten to tear the group apart for good.
