Hallmark Channel likely has more ‘Veil’-ed plans

Q: Will Hallmark Channel be making more “Wedding Veil” movies? – Robin Kerry, Fruita, Colo.

A: We’d have to say that’s more than likely, given the solid ratings that have been scored by both of the trilogies done so far In fact, the ratings for the second trio of “Wedding Veil” films improved on those from the first set – always a clear message to a network that it has something that viewers want to see more of.

Lacey Chaber t and Alison Sweeney already have mentioned their interest in continuing the franchise, and since they’re among the most popular Hallmark talents along with fellow “Veil” star Autumn Reeser, we would bet on there being more chapters of the series and sooner rather than later

Q: Is it true that Felicity Huffman is returning in a new series? – Scott Rhodes, DeLand, Fla.

A: One is in the works. In her first major project since her much-repor ted involvement in a college admissions scandal, the “Desperate Housewives,” “American Crime” and “Spor ts Night” alum is going back to ABC for a proposed spinof f of “The Good Doctor.”

Jennifer Nettles is down on the farms in reality-show revival

As her celebrated career in music continues, Jennifer Nettles has been building another one in unscripted television.

A winner of many awards (including Grammys) as a member of countr y music’s Sugarland, Nettles also is a solo artist, and she has extended her brand by ser ving as a judge on the series “Duets” and “Go-Big Show.” She potentially expands her reach again by playing host as four rural men seek mates from citybased prospects in a Fox revival of “Farmer Wants a Wife,” premiering Wednesday, March 8.

Originated in England, “Farmer Wants a Wife” has yielded a number of international versions, the first U.S. one having aired on The CW in 2008. The friendly Nettles admits that reality television is “ not my favorite genre, so I’m super-selective about the projects I choose. This one really stood out to me because it’s so different. Ever yone who’s involved gets a chance to really look at everyone else, so it’s authentic, and that’s what I appreciate.”

Deeming herself a “ stor yteller” no matter which aspect of her work she focuses on, Nettles believes that “Farmer Wants a Wife” also fulfills that designation for her. She calls it “a television fair y tale. It’s really heartwarming to see these folks who are out there looking for love and who doesn’t love a love stor y? That’s what really drew me to it, to see that take place in real time, and for people who are in it for the right reasons. ”

Explaining that she’s much more involved directly with the farmers on the show than with the women who are candidates to become their wives, Nettles likens her “Farmer Wants a Wife” role to that of “a fair y godmother, in a ‘mentor’ sort of way, to help them through this process. It is quite intimidating, I think, for them to take on a task like opening up their hearts and making themselves vulnerable – and doing it while cameras are around.”

Also an actress, having starred on Broadway in “Chicago” and “Waitress” and having made a couple of Dolly Parton-inspired NBC holiday movies, Nettles maintains that music remains the strongest part of her professional mix. Her most recent solo album was the 2021 cover-version collection “Always Like New,” and she maintains that she isn’t certain when she might reteam with Sugarland partner Kristian Bush again.

“ There are lots of ways to tell stories,” Nettles reflects, who also has been making a movie in Atlanta lately “ While music is obviously my first love, I’ve been expanding over the past 10 years into TV and film and theater. That’s mostly been on the scripted side, but it’s fun to do unscripted things, too It’s all worked out wonderfully well.”

Here come ‘The Flipping El Moussas’ on HGTV and discover y+

When it comes to flipping houses, Tarek El Moussa has few peers. Now, viewers will get to see how he balances all the wheeling and dealing with active family life in an unscripted series coming to HGTV and discovy+.

“The Flipping El Moussas,” premiering Thursday, March 2, catches up with El Moussa and his pregnant new wife Heather Rae as they prepare for the arrival of their baby boy while they continues to buy, fix up and sell proper ties in Southern California.

As a real estate agent who specializes in luxur y homes, the former Heather Rae Young brings a different perspective to her new husband’s business, helping him make strategic choices aimed at attracting upscale buyers, while he focuses on budget, schedule and what he calls his “four F’s of flipping” – find it, fund it, fix it and flip it.

Viewers wanting to see more of Tarek El Moussa can check out these shows currently streaming on discover y+ and HGTV Go.

“Flip or Flop”: The real estate crash of 2008 put El Moussa and his then-wife Christina in the business of buying and selling homes in their native Orange County, Calif., which became the focus of this 2013-22 HGTV series. While the show became a huge hit and the couple became celebrities, their success did not come without turbulence as the couple would divorce during the show’s run and Tarek would face a cancer diagnosis.

“Flipping 101 With Tarek El Moussa”: Premiering in 2020, this offering places El Moussa in the role of mentor as he shepherds real estate novices through the process of successfully flipping homes. The series caught on with viewers and has been renewed for a third season, expected to air some time in 2023.

TCM makes one of its ‘31 Days of Oscar’ all about love

Everybody loves a love story.

So the saying goes, and if it’s true, many people will find lots to love as Turner Classic Movies showcases romance as its “31 Days of Oscar” theme Sunday, March 5. Some of the most famous screen love stories are included in that day’s lineup, and here’s a look at several of those Academy Award winners.

“Doctor Zhivago” is director David Lean and screenwriter Robert Bolt’s 1965 retelling of the Boris Pasternak novel in which the title physician (played by Omar Sharif ) falls deeply for Lara (Julie Christie), the mistress of a ruthless businessman (Rod Steiger) who also is involved with her mother Oscars went to Bolt’s script, Freddie Young’s striking cinematography and the Maurice Jarre score that features “Lara’s Theme” (also known by the title “Somewhere, My Love”).

The stormy Civil War-era relationship of Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara (Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh) largely fuels “Gone With the Wind.” Its year’s Oscar winner for best picture, the 1939 adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s novel earned a total of eight Academy Awards also including best actress for Leigh and best supporting actress for Hattie McDaniel, the first African American performer to earn an Oscar nomination and the award itself

Some of the makers of “Casablanca” long marveled that they finished the film, much less won the Oscar for best picture of 1942 for it. The screenplay – about the wartime reunion of ex-lovers Rick and Ilsa (Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman) –earned one of the movie’s three Oscars, the others being for best picture and best director (Michael Curtiz).

“The Way We Were” is powered by the combined superstar might of Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford, but Arthur Laurents’ script for the Sydney Pollack-directed 1973 drama also digs into the Hollywood blacklist that sidelined so many entertainment careers. The film won Oscars for its Marvin Hamlisch score and the Streisand-performed title song.

With “Now, Voyager” and “An Affair to Remember” also on TCM’s March 5 schedule, the channel surely will get to the heart of the matter – and more than figuratively – throughout that day.

The new owners love the home’s character, but need modern functionality and design incorporated into the kitchen, living spaces and main suite in order to make it their own.
