TOBE REPORT AUTUMN // WINTER 2020-2021

REPORT BY ALEX GREELEY FASM 419 ANTHONY MILLER

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR If you’re anything like me, highly unlikely (good for you), color isn’t your favorite. If I could live in a world that consisted of only black, white and red, I’d pretty darn content. But, I don’t get that luxury and neither will anyone, probably ever. So, it’s my job to bring to you colors and color stories that actually inspire you to try something out. Whether it’s adding one singular touch of color to your all black ensemble (my preference) or figuring out monochromatic colors to mix. You know what, go w i l d. Mix those jewel tones with pastels and neutrals, I BEG of you! Fashion has very much so left the lane of seriousness and transported itself to the lane of approachable and fun for all over the past few years, and that’s not changing. So, if you flipped this open first, and you want some advice (probably not, but hell just take it), wear what you WANT, pick colors you LOVE and I guarantee that randoms will be oozing to give you compliments about your style and persona forever. Have A Great Day and Go Get a Cocktail, Alex Greeley

Disco, Baby!

These are tones that represent color at its purest form. Colors that come from nature’s truest hues, just slightly exaggerated for fashion’s use. Jewel tones are going to begin transitioning into staple color choices for the every day woman in her every day wardrobe. These colors will no longer be seen as accents, but more so worked into neutral color palettes to work in unison to accent the wearer as best as they can. Still fun, but that’s dressing as it should be.

NEUTRALS AREN’T NEGLECTED HERE Neutrals have a bad wrap of being “boring”. I happen to think there isn’t a statement that could be further from the truth. Neutrals play a MAJOR role in putting together literally any outfit you put on your body. Even that black t-shirt you threw on to go to the gym, it perfectly matches your black accented sneakers and grey leggings. Neutrals breed a sense of comfort and provide cohesion for any ensemble. What we are going to begin seeing are new tones and shades of classic neutrals come into play as future staple go to color choices. They are definitely colors, but with their variations in tone, they can be paired with anything.

BITCHIN’ BRIGHTS

I know, this section seems daunting. Bright colors have a bad rep. However, that’s going to start changing. Much like incorporating jewel tones into every day pieces, we are going to begin seeing brights make an appearance center stage. We will begin to see shades in the citrus family, lots of bright oranges and reds, accented with bright reds, trickle into every woman’s wardrobe, as this has great cross-generational appeal. We’ve seen this trend take on a lovely home within the beauty industry, but now it’s time for it to come full-speed-ahead to our wardrobes. Think a bright red overcoat layered until a neon yellow turtleneck, paired with a perfect black pant. Staple AND fun. Sure to entice that Boss Bitch attitude somewhere within us.

PASTELS FOR WINTER? YES.

Winter is cold and dreary. I get it, I’m from Chicago. However, I am beginning to understand why bringing pastels fully into one’s winter wardrobe could be a flippin fantastic idea. To start, pastels don’t always have to be Easter themed colors. Pastel by defintion means a soft or delicate shade of color. This can mean ANY color. Pastels ARE versatile in that way. What we are going to begin seeing more of are non-traditional pastel shades being mixed with those classic hues and that is going to bring about a great balance that will of course be practical for cold winter months, but also all year round. Expect to see these shades on variations of different fabrics and materials and used everywhere from clothing to accessories.
