The Imagine Bioentrepreneurs Program, gathering Université Paris Descartes, Ecole Polytechnique, HEC Paris, and Imagine Institute, is a groundbreaking, MSc/M2 diploma awarding initiative dedicated to entrepreneurship in the biomedical sector.

BIOTECHNOLOGIES, MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES, AND E-HEALTH each present major societal, technological, and economic challenges.

Entrepreneurship in these sectors requires specific types of expertise that combine different disciplines and cultures, as well as a state of mind that fosters the emergence and development of technological innovation based on economic models that often require rethinking or reinventing.

AS A TOOL FOR BOTH TRAINING AND ACCELERATION, the Imagine Bioentrepreneurs program gives students with complementary

backgrounds – in science, engineering, and business – ONE YEAR to work on actual biomedical innovation projects, totally immersing them in the ecosystem of biomedical innovation.

IDEAL CANDIDATES, VALUE PROPOSITION The Imagine Bioentrepreneurs Program is designed for scientists (medical doctors, pharmacists - including residents - researchers), engineers and business people under initial or continuous training, motivated by entrepreneurship in the biomedical sector and demonstrating a sufficient degree of training and maturity for becoming bioentrepreneurs upon completing the program.

Throughout the Imagine Bioentrepreneurs program, the students will: - acquire expertise in the areas of entrepreneurship and, more broadly, the creation of value within the biotechnology, medical technology, and e-health sectors, - practically apply these skills to actual innovation projects, all through contact with researchers and medical doctors and in interdisciplinary groups coached by experienced entrepreneurs and

have the extraordinary opportunity to pursue the development of these projects beyond the program, - be provided with job prospects, either through the creation of start-ups or more broadly in the ecosystem of innovation (biotech/medtech companies, pharmaceutical companies, investment and consulting firms, incubators and accelerators, etc.), - gain access to networks of partner institutions and a network of alumni that the program is working to develop.

TRAINING Training is conducted in English and includes two main components.

- A core curriculum consisting of the following teaching modules: • business startup • business growth • scientific track • technology & innovation management • biomed entrepreneurship ecosystem The teaching modules will include lectures in finance, law/intellectual property, strategy and business models, marketing innovation/go-to-market, human resources/management, project management, design thinking, industrial and economic opportunities and challenges in the biotech, medtech and e-health/big data sectors, scientific fundamentals of these sectors, economics of health, etc.

Waivers may be considered depending on the applicants’ backgrounds.

- A specific track allowing each multidisciplinary group of students organized around a project to access lessons or tutorials that meet their specific needs. These “electives” are chosen by the students themselves at the beginning of the year.

A personalized crash course is first offered to the students, depending on their backgrounds (e.g. fundamentals in corporate finance, for scientists; fundamentals in biology, for engineers and business people).

Training provides a lot of room for shared experiences: - a field trip to a region of the world that demonstrates strong entrepreneurial drive (California, Massachusetts, etc.) to observe other models,

- throughout the year, thematic workshops, conducted by experts in the field, allowing students to share their own experiences, - the closeness developed between student entrepreneurs, experienced entrepreneurs, teachers, experts, researchers, and medical doctors favors shared experiences and the emergence of innovation in a “cross-linking” environment.

ACCELERATION The ÂŤprojectÂť phase is focused on opportunity validation, project design, business plan development and early-stage implementation of innovative projects that could lead to the founding of new companies or the transfer to established companies.

Students undertake these projects in interdisciplinary teams, with each team being coached by a professional with experience in entrepreneurship and a scientific adviser – a researcher or a medical doctor.

The innovative projects vary in origin: some are proposed by researchers and medical doctors at Imagine Institute,

others by partners at teaching entities, and still others by the students themselves. An evaluation committee chooses them, particularly on the basis of their scientific rationale, the adequacy of underlying developments, and their potential for value creation.

The program includes the following acceleration components: - privileged connections made with players from the innovation ecosystem and access to networks of partner institutions,

- a demo-day allowing student entrepreneurs to present their projects to an audience of potential investors and partners at the end of the year, - and an innovation prize, sponsored by LBO France, amounting to a maximum of 100,000 euros, awarded to the best project(s) and financially enabling its start-up. As part of its partnership, LBO France may also share some experience and expertise.

Depending on the circumstances at hand, the students leave the program with the option of further developing the projects or using their skills and networks to address new challenges.

A UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT

The Imagine Bioentrepreneurs Program is a pioneering partnership between Université Paris Descartes, HEC Paris, Ecole Polytechnique, and Imagine Institute. By bringing together student entrepreneurs, professionals experienced in entrepreneurship, teachers, experts, engineers, researchers, and medical doctors, and perfectly integrating them into the biomedical innovation ecosystem, the program promotes the emergence and successful development of innovative projects in the biotechnology, medical technology, and e-health sectors.

The Imagine Bioentrepreneurs Program falls under the specialization track entitled « Molecular&Cellular Biotherapies » of the BME Paris (Biomedical Engineering)

master’s program at Université Paris Descartes*. The BME-Paris master’s offers interdisciplinary training in the bioengineering sector. This highly internationally-minded program is in line with “Biomedical Engineering” master’s programs offered by the best European and North American universities. It is founded upon a strong interaction between several disciplines of the biomedical and engineering sectors, incorporating applications of chemistry, physics, mechanics, biology, and mathematics.

Ecole Polytechnique and HEC Paris Ecole Polytechnique and HEC Paris are two of the best and most prestigious French «Grandes écoles» in the areas of science and engineering, and business respectively.

The Imagine Bioentrepreneurs Program allows its participants to obtain through them and Universtié Paris Descartes in partnership with Imagine Institute a MSc in entrepreneurship in the biomedical sector.

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE Candidates must send in an application form which includes a cover letter and a questionnaire highlighting their personal journey, their career plans, and their

entrepreneurial approach.

The application packet also includes a resume and two letters of recommendation. The interviews take place before a panel of professors

and professionals experienced in entrepreneurship. As English is the language of the program, applicants must be fluent in English.
