PT SANS
Kepler
D E S I G N E D B Y P R I N C I PA L D E S I G N
DESIGNED BY ROBERT SLIMBACH
PT Sans is based on Russian sans serif types of the second part of the 20th century, but at the same time has distinctive features of contemporary humanistic designs. The family consists of 8 styles: 4 basic styles, 2 captions styles for small sizes, and 2 narrows styles for economic type setting.
Traditionally, modern typefaces are known for their cool intellectual quality, but Slimbach’s Kepler captures the modern style in a humanistic manner. It is elegant and refined with a hint of oldstyle proportion and calligraphic detailing that lends it warmth and energy.

pays particular attention to screen quality of its fonts. Most ParaType fonts are hinted manually and many of them are even delta hinted.
The headline font, Lust Script, is a natural and versatile choice for large display text. For readability, it is best to use this font at large sizes. Designer Neil Summerour suggests that the font displays best at a weight over 72 points. With a large number of alternates, it is easy to personalize, making it a great fit for a personal webpage or blog.
The subhead, footnote, and caption font uses PT Sans Narrow Regular. The Narrow weight contrasts well with the heavy weight of the headline script. It also increases the amount of text that can fit into an area, especially important for captions and footnotes. PT Sans Bold is highly adaptable, making it a strong choice for readability at both large and small sizes.
The subhead, body, and footnote/caption copy all fall within the PT Sans family. PT Sans is a common san serif font family for web use. ParaType, the foundry that designed PT Sans,
For the purpose of subheadings, tracking should be increased to establish hierarchy and should be all-caps. This is not the case with captions and footnotes, which should be kept at
a smaller point size than body copy and utilize tracking for enhanced readability. Kepler Medium Semicondensed Italic is a serif typeface selected for intro copy, pull quotes, and callout text. Keplar contrasts well with PT Sans and complements Lust Script in its rounded stylistic features. The modern yet humanistic style of Keplar gives it a warmth that serves the purpose of making quoted text feel more personal. Keplar is as elegant and refined as many popular 18th century typefaces, however the concept behind the font is firmly rooted in modern technology. The Keplar font family has many variations, allowing versatility.
