Throughout the year Art Deco Trust works in partnership with many individuals and organisations. An important partnership for the Trust is the one we have with the Napier City Council and we thank the councillors and staff for their continued support. We are also very grateful for the generous support we receive from the Hastings District Council and Hawke’s Bay Regional Council. A special thank you to all our sponsors and supporters and to the many local businesses and organisations that contribute to covering the cost of putting on the free events. Finally, my thanks to the dedicated Trust Board members, staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to bring events such as the Art Deco Festival Napier 2022 to life. T
he Art Deco Festival Napier has grown into one of the greatest dressup shindigs you’ll ever attend. But more than that, it’s a celebration of the resilience and spirit of the people of Hawke’s Bay who, 91 years ago, courageously rebuilt their town and their lives following the catastrophic 1931 earthquake; and of the vibrant, creative East Coast community Hawke’s Bay has grown into. Whether you are an avid Art Deco enthusiast, love the romance of a bygone era (and a good dress up) or simply want to kick back and have a great time with family and friends in our lively little region, exactly how you Deco is up to you. HOW TO DECO IN
HASTINGS CITY We’ve created a day in Hastings based around Art Deco events happening in the CBD on the 17th February. Come and discover what’s on offer and spend the day exploring great food, bars, retail gems and historical architecture.* MORNING •
Start the day by getting coffee from one of our many great cafés before sharing the love by visiting a different establishment for breakfast.
•
Once you’re fuelled for the morning, spend time browsing the shops - it’s only a 15 minute walk from one end to the other of the main CBD street and a 5 minute detour to Bay Plaza.
•
Now you’ve worked up your appetite, it’s time for lunch! With so many options to choose from, there’s something for everyone; but make sure you leave room for dinner.
AFTERNOON •
After lunch, it’s time for the Hastings Art Deco & Earthquake Tour at 1pm with local historian, Michael Fowler (approx. 90minutes).
•
After viewing the breathtaking architecture, head to Arts Inc. Heretaunga or Hastings Art Gallery to view art at it’s best.
•
We’re sure all this walking has left you parched, so choose from one of the many bars to wet your lips (or perhaps a wine or gin tasting) before heading out for dinner.
EVENING •
Hastings has a melting pot of amazing cultural cuisine to select your dinner from, so prepare yourself for a taste explosion, wherever you choose.
•
Belly full? Perfect! Now head to Common Room for ‘Not So Common Deco’. Sample their great wine, craft beers and surround yourself in a fun and welcoming environment while listening to music; you can even relax in the garden bar.
