PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
A
very warm welcome to the Tasman team, management, board members, and supporters to McLean Park. This afternoon’s match between the top Premiership and Championship teams has all the ingredients for an outstanding game. Congratulations to Hastings West on becoming the 2019 Ross Shield holders. A very big thank you to the Committee and all of Wairoa for holding another very successful tournament. Hawke’s Bay Women’s rugby is going from strength to strength with the Hawke’s Bay Tui’s making the semi-finals. Well done. Also held this week was the Wakely Shield. At the time of going to print, we did not have final results. Again thanks to all involved – it has been an outstanding event. On behalf of the HBRU, may I welcome all those players who represented Hawke’s Bay 50 years ago in 1969. Alongside this event is the Saracen’s AGM, lunch and get together. May I, on behalf of the HBRU, thank the Saracens for all their effort and work they unreservedly give to rugby in Hawke’s Bay from school teams up to senior teams.
Yesterday’s lunch/fundraiser was an outstanding event. To all of you, please enjoy your day. To all Supporters – young and old – keep up your normal vigour and noise. Go the Magpies!

WELCOME BACK TO MCLEAN PARK
A
fter a well-deserved victory on the park three weeks ago against Taranaki, our Magpies have had two away games. These resulted in a disappointing loss to Bay of Plenty on the Tauranga Domain and a good victory in Pukekohe against Counties-Manukau. Today we take on the unbeaten Tasman. This will be a real challenge for the Magpies but one they are eagerly looking forward to. On behalf of the HBRU Board I would like to congratulate the HB Girls under 18’s and Hastings West Ross Shield teams on winning their respective tournaments. The HB under 16’s also performed well in going down in their final to Wellington. The Tui have also had a good season and are eagerly looking forward to a semi-final on McLean Park next Saturday. I hope you can all make the effort to watch these young ladies next week as they are playing an exciting brand of rugby.

elcome back to Mclean Park where the Team are back from two in a row on the road where the Bay Plenty team got up and gave the Magpies their first upset, but it was great to see the team bounce back against Counties. They have done the Bay proud so far this season and great to see the boys back on the park for an afternoon game. Please give them the support as they take on the challenging Tasman team - a match up we have been looking forward to all season. Congratulations to the team so far for the 2019 season and also to the girls who have been performing really well - the team at Tui are backing you all the way in 2019.

A MOMENT WITH THE COAC CH
A
couple weeks away from McLean Park saw the team go down in Tauranga to a highly effective Bay of Plenty team on the day. The less said about that performance the better, but the team took a lot of learnings from that fixture. None more so than ensuring we show up mentally y and physically each week, or risk being on the end of a sc core line like that again. ht The team bounced back in Pukekohe last Thursday nigh onse with a physical win in the rain. It was pleasing to get a respo from the players as Counties Manukau are a physical side and always a tough proposition especially at home. de Tonight, we face a red-hot and well organised Tasman sid full of talent. We will need to be at our best tonight to push a very good Mako’s side. As always, we love being at home in front of our supportters and thanks for coming out today and supporting the team – the boys really appreciate it.
