NATIONAL HORTICULTURAL FIELD DAYS

3

WELCOME TO THE BNZ NATIONAL HORTICULTURAL FIELD DAYS 2019 Now run over two days it is New Zealand’s largest horticultural event.

Described as a true showcase of New Zealand’s Horticulture industry, the event creates a genuine opportunity for industry networking, business to business interaction and education. Proudly organised by the Hawke’s Bay A & P Society, the General Manager, Sally Jackson reported that the value of New Zealand’s horticultural products continues to rise and now exceeds $8.8 billion. She stated “The horticulture industry is thriving, products from right across New Zealand are exported to over 120 countries. Hawke’s Bay alone accounts for two thirds of all apple and pear outputs and this is one of the main reasons Hastings is home to this event”. In its 10th year, a key theme for the 2019 event is innovation and with New Zealand horticulturalists representing some of the most innovative and industrious producers in the world, the BNZ National Horticulture Field Days are the perfect opportunity to highlight what is new in the industry. The Innovation Hub and Large Machinery Feature Zone has been incorporated into the event for the first time and will feature a large range of new to market equipment and inspirational products. Jackson reported “One of the best things about the field days event is that it is specifically created for the horticulture industry, and there is no other event like it accords the entire country”.

Held at the historic and beautiful Showgrounds Hawke’s Bay Tomoana, the field days will have over 80 trade sites, a huge number of guest speakers featured across the two-day BNZ Seminar Series and the Ravensdown Innovation and Environment Awards will be presented in front of key stakeholders at the inaugural awards networking function. Phil Teague, Senior Partner for Bank of New Zealand Hawke’s Bay, has been involved with the event for a number of years assisting the Hawke’s Bay A & P Society with guidance and growth strategies. He stated “BNZ has been a long-term sponsor of the field days and as the naming sponsor, it is extremely rewarding to see the event move to two days in duration. For us at BNZ, a key element of the field days is the educational features of the event including the BNZ seminar series. Speakers at BNZ seminar series this year include BNZ’s Chief Economist, Tony Alexander who will present

to business leaders following a breakfast function. The BNZ seminar series runs throughout the day and is an excellent forum to engage with industry participants, hear about and embrace the use of technology and innovative practices across our expanding and hugely important horticulture industry sector”. The Hawke’s Bay A&P Society has been collaborating with key industry partners and has identified that it is essential that the two day event provides a strong conduit for education and career development across the sector, with the emphasis on adding to the future labour pool within the region and across the country. Key organisations such as Hawke’s Bay Fruit Growers Association, EIT Hawke’s Bay, Apples and Pears New Zealand and alongside strong business partners such as BNZ, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council and T&G Global have all worked together to achieve the vision for the event around education, career development and business acumen.

Any artist can enter and the works will be displayed outdoors at the National Horticulture Field Day. The winner is chosen by the people;

everyone who attends the field day gets a chance to vote. Alongside this is a silent auction where people have the opportunity to buy the artwork. A generous prize package sponsored by Gifford Devine provide $1000, $500 & $250 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The first prize winner also
