From the land of the first light, kia ora, welcome! We invite you to discover our unique corner of Aotearoa, NZ. Tairāwhiti Gisborne is rich in history, culture, cuisine and adventure. Tairāwhiti means “the coast upon which the sun shines across the water”. Which is apt since we are the first in the world to see the sun. What lies between is an almost untouched paradise of spectacular surf beaches, inland wilderness, fertile vineyards and farms, marae and settlements, gorgeous lakes and rivers. Tairāwhiti is a region of many firsts. In addition to welcoming the sun, Tairāwhiti is a gateway to the Motu Trails, one of the first wine regions in NZ and we’re the surf capital too. Visit www.tairawhitigisborne.co.nz to find a plethora of reasons to visit us – for business and for pleasure. So, come on over, we’d love to see you!

Spend the October school holidays exploring Tuia 250 in Gisborne This October, New Zealand will acknowledge 250 years since the first onshore meetings between Māori and Europeans with a national commemoration called Tuia – Encounters 250 (Tuia 250). Tuia 250 is about the people and place of Aotearoa New Zealand - what brought us together, the challenges we face and how we weave our cultures and values into a future we will be proud to leave for our grandchildren. The cornerstone of these commemorations is a three-month voyage that will see a flotilla of waka hourua (double-hulled voyaging canoes), tall ships and naval ships, including the Endeavour replica, visiting sites of significance to Māori/Pacific and European voyaging around the country. As the home of these very first encounters and with a history rich in navigating history, Gisborne will host the national opening events and the launch of this incredible flotilla. Be part of history. Join us in the October school holidays for six epic days as we explore the extraordinary voyaging traditions and cultures of Te Moana Nui a Kiwa (the Pacific).
