ere are some of our locals and their favourite items from their wardrobe.

Bruce from Unio Goldsmith and gallery in Havelock North loves to wear his father’s watch, sentimental and stylish. Angus Thomson never lets the Hawke’s Bay sun catch him out, he always has his trusty straw sunhat, looks great with a suit or even with casual jeans.

Cian Jefferson bagel maker from Bayside Bagels Heretaunga Street, Hastings (you have to try them!) likes the more casual style and donned his favourite sweatshirt teamed with his best beanie! Wayne Harrison from Spex Eyewear in Hastings feels like he has gone fishing when he wears his favourite shirt covered in fishing flies, unfortunately he is working behind the counter on this particular day!

or a start it is definitely NOT a container wardrobe . . . . And it can be for men and women.

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of essential items of clothing that won’t go out of fashion and can be paired with a variety of statement or seasonal pieces. You need to be able to mix and match and by adding a scarf or tie, a piece of jewellery or jacket. . . “Boom” . . . you have a whole new outfit. Start with your wardrobe and do a major declutter. Out with those shoes that you love but can’t fit, along with the skirt or trousers that you have held on to for ten years as the fabric is still in good condition but you can’t get either of them up further than your thigh. . . been there . . . .done that. You have to be ruthless! This is how you go about building your capsule wardrobe.

MESOTHERAPYTHE KEY TO THE NEW YOU

Do you know what a capsule wardrobe is?

You may be lucky enough to have a walkin wardrobe…put winter on one side and summer garments the other. A shoe rack with shoes all colour coordinated . . . yes I realise it may sound a little extreme but it does look good.

• A wrap dress, men smart sweatshirt

If you have not worn an article for 12 months then give it its marching orders, either down to the op shop or for special pieces, on line to sell. You will then know exactly what is in your wardrobe and what can be paired with what.

• Casual shirts and tops

Once your wardrobe is overhauled, you will be left with your favourites and it is from these that you build your capsule wardrobe with: • A few wardrobe staples you wouldn’t want to be without are • A smart pair of trousers

• Smart coat or jacket • Good quality bras and underwear for women, and for the men decent underwear and socks,

about putting things together. Less garments, more quality fabrics and remember, if those racks are hard to pull apart. . . .It is time for another declutter.

• Knitwear/merino • Special evening dress, men a smart evening suit • Evening and everyday bag, men smart wallet • Selection of scarves/ties • A few items of special jewellery, men a smart dress watch • Shoes . . . fewer pairs but better quality Once you have revamped and sorted your wardrobe you will feel more comfortable

• A couple of pairs of jeans

a few classic pieces of jewellery will take you anywhere!

awke’s Bay born-and-raised singer-songwriter Danica Bryant is well-known for supporting Elton John on his 2020 New Zealand tour, as well as other iconic acts including Jon Toogood, Jason Kerrison and Foreigner. She bears national titles from Play It Strange and Smokefree Rockquest, as well as a songwriting mentorship with Bic Runga, and participation in APRA’s first ever Hawkes’ Bay Songhubs. Following the release of her critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Cider’ last year, Bryant’s latest single ‘Heart Eyes’ showcases her newfound pop-rock direction. Bryant’s emotionally intelligent lyricism explores how consumerism and celebrity culture prey on young women, encompassing modern feminist ideas within a bombastic stadium sound. With her upcoming music, Bryant defines herself by blending her powerful words with an intoxicating musical sound, transforming her from high school hero to a fully formed pop star with a guitar.”

Q&A How would you describe your style? I definitely like to be different with my wardrobe. Day to day I like girly pastels but when on stage, I like edgy, colourful and bright!

What is your favourite garment in your wardrobe? My absolute favourite article of clothing are my boot leg jeans with butterfly patches on them. Love them!

Is your winter wardrobe different from your summer wardrobe or do you mix and match and layer? Love to layer! I tend to use my summer wardrobe in the winter, teamed with thermals

Make, buy, op shop or fashion label . . . which one is you? I buy a lot of my clothes from OP shops and second hand online sites’ you can get some wonderful finds. I try to be more sustainable when it comes to clothes.

What is your favourite accessory? My fluffy pink heart shoulder bag. Favourite footwear? A good pair of high heeled boots are my favourite footwear –they go with everything. Jewellery-bangles, necklaces or earrings? I adore quirky earrings…the quirkier the better. They are such a great fashion item to dress something up with.

EIT IDEAschool students collaborate

to showcase creative flair A

collaborative project that draws on the creativity of fashion and design students from EIT’s IDEAschool has produced some outstanding results that will be showcased at one of New Zealand’s premier fashion design awards. The project has seen students from different creative disciplines come together to work on the eight-week project and the fruits of their labour will now be up for honours at the Hokonui Fashion Awards next month. EIT IDEAschool Fashion lecturer Christina Rhodes says Level 6 Fashion students have been creating the designs and then working with Level 6 Design students on a photo-shoot using Level 5 Fashion students as models. “The students have made something that is going into a competition, but it is not about the winning. It is about the experience, about seeing your garment on a catwalk at a big fashion show.”

“We’ve come together and said let’s make this happen. Everyone is working together as a team to get the best result possible, not only for the Hokonui Awards.” Anthony says the Design students have learnt a lot about photography and art direction.

He made his alternative menswear garment, to be entered in the Hokonui Fashion Design Awards, from recycled materials. His intended customer for the outfit is someone “passionate about pushing the boundaries” of menswear, regardless of income.

“It’s the first time that we’ve run a dedicated eight-week photography art direction aspect to the Bachelor of Creative Practice, and it has been phenomenal.”

Both Christina and Anthony say the IDEAschool Fashion and Design Programmes teach the students to be diverse and able to work in all areas in the arts industries.

Level 6 Fashion student Ashford Thompson relished the opportunity to work with other students across the school.

It is what makes EIT’s students sought-after for roles in the fashion industry.

“Not only were we able to learn new skills, but we were also able to play to our strengths to create a high-end product,” Ashford says.

For more information about these programmes and others at IDEAschool, please visit the EIT website. www.ideaschool.eit.ac.nz

“The collaboration between the Fashion and Design students has been fantastic and in August we will have an exhibition at IDEAschool where photos from the shoots and the garment will go up on display.” Anthony Chiappin, EIT’s Senior Lecturer Design / Graphics / Illustration at IDEAschool, says it has been exciting to see IDEAschool’s fashion, visual arts, design, screen and music disciplines collaborate together.
