A superb Hawke’sBay wedding

AbbeyandSamweremarriedon Saturday17December2022atafamily farminPuketapu.

Thecouplewerekeenontheideaofa ruralweddingandchosethefarmdue toitsbeautifulsceneryandlocation.The wedding,andcelebrationsafterwards, hadarusticfeelandtheatmosphere wascasual.Therewereabout130 guestsandfamily.

AbbeyandSamarebothfromHawke’s BayandfirstmetataShapeshifter concertatBlackBarnin2018andsayit wasloveatfirstsight.Abbeyadmires Sam’skindheartand“howhewoulddo absolutelyanythingforhisfamily”.Sam admiresAbbey’sloveandcarefortheir children“andthesupportshehasgiven metobeanddothebestIcan”.

SamownsAtlasCarpentryand ConstructionandAbbeyworksfrom homeasadoggroomer-DapperDogs Grooming.

Theyorganisedtheweddingthemselves withmuchhelpfromJill,Abbey’smum whodidalotofthedecorating,even downtothebulletbuttonholesthat theboyswore.“Shehadmydadoutat theriverscollectingtoitoiandforaging wildfoliage.Sam’sparentsspentages gettingthepropertyreadyaswellashis mumSharonmakingpropsandphoto wallsfortheguests.

Abbey’sgorgeousdresswasfromAstra bridalinWellington.Itwasfittedwith plentyoflacedetaildowntheback.“I absolutelylovedit,”Abbeysays.

“SamandtheboysworeDoc Martens,creampants,whiteshirts andsuspendersandSamworeablue/ greyblazer.Mymummadethebullet corsagethattheyworeontheirpockets withpheasantsfeathersandfoliage fromaroundthefarm.”

Inkeepingwiththerusticthemethe menuconsistedofhomekillpulledpork, homekilllamb,rolledstuffedchicken, roastvegesalad,greensalad,pasta salad,briochebunsfromtheirmate WiseyattheFireStationBakeryanda dessertbuffettable.

Thecakewasmadebyafriendwho runsherowncakemakingbusiness.“It wasaverybigthreetieredchocolate mudcakewithdifferentflavoursin betweeneachlayer:carameland buttercream,raspberryandbuttercream andNutellaandbuttercream.

EvaBradleywasthephotographer,the celebrantwasSharnéBoys,afriendof Abbey’s,andlivemusicwasprovidedby NakedGun.

Therewereseveralhighlightsoftheday andforSamitwasseeingAbbeywalk downtheaislelookingamazing.Abbey saysthatarrivingbycarandseeing everyonethereandSamwaitingatthe endoftheaislewasaspecialmoment. Localsmayrememberthatthesummer of2022/23wasespeciallywet.Abbey’s adviceistoalwayshaveaback-upplanif youareplanninganoutsidewedding.
