Dream it and theme it Selecting your theme is an important step to achieving a memorable wedding

A

theme for your wedding celebrations will help with your planning, and make that perfect day of yours more memorable for you and your guests. The sky is the limit as far as a theme goes and you probably have numerous ideas already. You could create some drama with bold colours such as black and white or any other favourite colour such as lavender. Popular locally are Art Deco themed weddings complete with authentic gowns, vintage cars and cocktails. Romantic vintage themed weddings offer plenty of scope for the imagination. Select an exquisite

dress or design from a previous era and artfully mix with contemporary accessories. The vintage theme can be all inclusive with flowers from the era, table settings including china and cutlery to match your selected era. There are several local companies who specialise in hiring out a wide range of vintage items. Another way to create a theme is to focus on a joint interest such as a sport, horses, a favourite band or piece of music. Your theme will dictate the colours you choose for your dresses, the flowers, the grooms outfit, invitations, decorations, transport, and the cake.

A once in a lifetime opportunity deserves the best.

Choosing a wedding venue is one of the most important decisions a bride and groom will make. Let Te Awa Winery offer you the perfect bespoke vineyard setting... Nestled in the heart of the renowned Gimblett Gravels wine region of Hawkes Bay, this stunning estate is the ideal venue fox your wedding ceremony and reception Executive Chef Stephen Tindall offers a menu featuring premium local produce, matched with award wining wines. The scenic landscapes, lush vineyards and rustic elegance provides a beautiful and romantic backdrop for your special day We look forward to making your day one to remember forever.

Your venue could also be a key to choosing a theme. A beach wedding might call for a casual style of dress with a seashell theme, maybe even tropical flowers followed by cocktails and a seafood barbecue. A wedding set in an orchard or vineyard could suggest a rustic theme with boutique wines or cider followed by an interesting photo shoot. A spring wedding might suggest fresh spring flowers such as daffodils or autumn gives scope for hues of latte and peach.

Creating a mood board or scrap book is an effective and fun way of visualising how certain colours and textures would look together. You can add pictures of bouquets, centrepieces, dresses, shoes, accessories and cakes. Collect clippings from bridal magazines and pin them on a board alongside fabric swatches or keep track of great ideas online on sites such as Pinterest. There’s no shortage of web sites offering fresh inspiration from around the world. There are also plenty of planning tools on line covering budgets, checklists and much more.

Tokens of everlasting love A wedding ring symbolises unity between husband and wife

A

t the engagement stage few couples give thought to the wedding rings, often leaving their purchase until closer to the wedding. While this is good for the pocket, after all you don’t want to shock the groom with a double purchase of bling, it does pay to have an idea of the wedding ring you want when shopping for the engagement ring. Consider if you will want to wear the engagement ring and the wedding ring together. If so, they will have to fit well together on the finger and complement each other. Most choose the same metals, but yellow and white gold can also look chic depending on the design. If the setting and style of

your engagement ring is very detailed, a plainer wedding ring will offset it better. Jewellers report that wedding rings with stone settings are now more often requested than plain settings. Coloured diamonds are also becoming increasingly popular and there’s a good selection of vintage style rings. Titanium is a strong, beautiful and durable metal that can be engraved, inlaid with stones or enhanced with precious metals. Also consider if you want ‘his and hers’ rings that give a nod to each other’s design to reflect your romantic bond. You can also request for your rings to be engraved, with the wedding date and initials or something personal to you both.

At Heards Jewellers we carry an extensive range of wedding and engagement rings to suit your style. For the more individual touch, we can design and create your very own masterpiece, by our on-site jewellers.

y now you will have decided on an overall theme and colour schemes and once the guest list is sorted you can look at design ideas, themes, sizes, colours, lettering and typeface, type of paper and trimmings. Other stationery items to consider are envelopes, the order of service, place name cards, menu cards, cake and gift boxes, a guest book, thank you cards, candles, stickers, labels, table decorations and ribbons. Whimsically informal, imaginatively designed for semiformal or classically presented for traditional weddings, there’s wonderful scope for invitation inspiration in terms of colour, calligraphy and language whether it’s on paper or on-line. Designer stationery experts will custom make your wedding

invitations with printed images, motifs, fancy fonts and calligraphy. Stationery stores and printing companies have a comprehensive range of imported and locally made cards, paper and envelopes, which can then be printed with your chosen wording and details. There’s also a good range of companies online offering services. Always proof your printed invitations very carefully and order all your stationery at the same time - it’s cheaper in bulk especially if you need a range of items such as invitations, envelopes, order of service, place cards and thank you cards. DIY invitations allow you to create individual stationery of your own from colourful and imaginative materials in stationery stores, art and craft outlets and bookshops.

The perfect wedding dress 8|

Every bride wants that once in a lifetime dress

F

inding the perfect wedding gown may take you on a search of many different options, whether you buy, hire, make, borrow, inherit or have it designed. Having a gown designed and made just for you is the ultimate in individuality, but naturally it will cost you more than a readymade dress. Your designer will want to discuss prospective ideas and styles with you, as well as what suits you and your personality. Bringing an illustration, a piece of lace or item of jewellery is helpful for inspiration. Beautiful wedding dresses are available ‘off the peg’ at specialist bridal shops. As well as New Zealand designs, many are imported, so be sure to allow adequate time for the dress you select to be ordered from overseas. With a wonderful range of styles to try before you buy, your dream dress might be right there on the rack! Once chosen your gown can be expertly fitted and altered if necessary. If you are having a dress made choose a pattern and some stunning bridal fabric and let a skilled dressmaker create an exquisite gown for you. With an inspiring selection of silk, satin, lace, brocade and voile, there won’t be another gown exactly like yours, and it won’t be as costly as a

designer dress either. Be sure to choose a reputable dressmaker and always ask to see examples of their work before you decide. Hiring a wedding gown often lets you have that dream dress for less than purchasing it or having it made. Unless you plan to keep your gown as an heirloom, hiring can be an excellent option for the budget conscious bride. Expensive and exquisite dresses are often to be found in the for sale columns, or on TradeMe. Many have been purchased or imported from overseas and you may discover a genuine designer bridal gown at a fraction of the original cost. You can always have it refitted or altered with beading, add a sparkly belt or trim to your personal taste. Your wedding gown need not be traditional bridal style, colour or price. Look at ball gowns, cocktail outfits and maxi dresses for something just that little bit different. Try summer sales at designer boutiques as well as chain store racks and mail order companies. With style and imagination, a simple dress can always be beautifully and uniquely enhanced with classy accessories.

Y

ou will certainly find signature bridesmaid collections while you are looking for your own bridal gown. The advantage is finding a similar style to your own, a complementary design or fabric and the dresses being available in a range of sizes and colours. But if you don’t want to buy bridesmaid dresses that may only be worn once you can also look at hiring them and getting them individually fitted. Don’t overlook fashion shops that stock dresses for evening wear, formals and balls, which are often appealingly affordable. As well as floor length gowns, cocktail length has become extraordinarily popular, while day wear dresses are short and sassy. Choose styles and colours to flatter the size and body shape of

your bridesmaids, they’ll love you for it. Invariably the bridesmaids will be different sizes so plan to flatter each body type. Alternatively you could let the girls choose their own design to suit their body shape and possibly dress them all in tones that complement each other and also their individual complexions. There really aren’t any hard and fast rules about what your bridesmaids should wear and fashion dictates that virtually anything goes as weddings become more a personal statement about the couple, their lifestyle and interests. Wedding party colour trends include soft and blush pink, strawberry ice, aquamarine, pistachio, mint, soft melon, turquoise, a hint of orchid, tangerine, coral and saffron and glacier grey.

Flower girls and page boys Adorable young helpers often steal the scene

W

ho could resist the sight of a flower girl and page boy walking hand in hand down the aisle, it’s almost too cute. However, using small children also comes with risks such as moodiness and fidgeting. For those prepared to take the chance there’s plenty of choice of cool, comfortable and appropriate clothing for boys and girls. You can create a dress for your flower girl in the same design as your dress if it’s appropriate, or use the same fabric in a suitable little girl style. Thai silk, dotted voile, satin, and tulle are popular combinations. Alternatively keep the dress simple and match a detail from your own

gown such as a lace bolero or overlay, a rosette or applique, crystal beads or pearl buttons to shimmer and shine. Lace wedding dresses can be purchased at bridal and ballet shops or made at the same time as your own gown. But for a less expensive option, find a simple white or cream dress in children’s wear shops or department stores and trim with your own choice of embellishments. To add colour, match a sash to your bridesmaid’s gowns or flowers or loop the skirt over a petticoat of lace, pastel print or ribbon trim. If it’s chilly, keep your adorable flower girl warm with a bolero, a cardigan wrap or Victorian style coat.

Exceptional wedding locations Hawke’s Bay has an outstanding selection of wedding and reception venues

A

large portion of your budget will be allocated to your reception so the choice of venue needs careful thought. You’ll have an idea of your theme by now, which should guide your decision on the reception venue. Think about the closeness of the reception venue to the ceremony (they may be the same place of course), the time of day, type of food and entertainment you’d like. Would you like a formal sit down meal with table service or a buffet which might be less expensive or will you hire caterers? Hawke’s Bay is wine country and therefore vineyards are extremely popular for weddings and receptions. Conveniently close to town our wineries offer indoor and outdoor options, award winning wines and first rate cuisine. However, we’re also fortunate in Hawke’s Bay to have a great selection of hotels, restaurants, lodges and historic homesteads alongside art deco buildings, function centres, gardens, orchards, clubs, halls for hire and marquee hire. When you visit your shortlisted reception venues check what is included in the price per head. The functions team should give advice on how much alcohol

to order per head for toasts, during meals etc. If you’re on a tight budget ask if you are able to take your own alcohol. Decide on whether there will be a cash bar and make the arrangements clear to your guests in the invitation to save embarrassment. If you are hiring a marquee you may need to factor in hire of wedding furniture, crockery, glassware, table linen and toilets, lighting, heating, flooring, tables, and chairs. There are local hire companies offering everything from vases to chair covers, candelabras and more. If it’s a large wedding with a formal meal you’ll need a seating plan. Traditionally the bride and groom and close family sit at the top table. Try and group people on tables according to whether they are friends or relatives and take into account any family feuds. You don’t want to waste much time having people find their seats so you could number the tables or give them names somehow related to your theme. Post a plan at the entrance to the reception so guests can check where they are sitting beforehand and use personal name tags to help your guests find their seats.

Contemporary cakes While a celebratory cake was traditionally provided as a symbol of fertility modern cakes have become custom made confections with perfection as their main ingredient

O

ptions are as broad as the imagination and could be round, square, stacked, cup-cakes, profiteroles, meringue, ice-cream, sorbet, chocolate, red, yellow, pink. How about a carrot cake, lemon or banana flavour, a fruity theme or something to match your wedding gown? There are some excellent cake designers in Hawke’s Bay who are only too happy to discuss your ideas and offer samples for the all-important taste test. Most of them will also have an album of photos or a web site so you see a range of their work. Once the culinary masterpiece has been made the artistry of the decoration begins. Whether classic, modern, fun, funky, sculpted, shaped, piled, painted or piped, the icing can reflect almost any colour scheme or theme. Practical considerations include the number of guests and whether the cake will be served as dessert. If

you are getting married in the height of a Hawke’s Bay summer consider the temperature and choose a cake that will not melt before the end of the reception. Traditionally the cake would be cut after the meal however it is customary now for the bride and groom to take this step before the speeches to allow for the best photographs - no tear stained faces!

Evoking mood and atmosphere, a wedding is not complete without flowers

N

o matter what your budget, flowers are generally an important aspect of your wedding adding atmosphere, creating impact and visual appeal. Traditionally they were a sign of fertility, warded off evil and masked unpleasant odours! There are many considerations when selecting flowers for your big day such as the overall wedding theme, the colour scheme, the season and whether it’s a formal or informal celebration. Styles could range from classic, to wild or contemporary and there’s an amazing range of options when it comes to colour, shape and size. A good florist will help you choose what’s best for you and your budget. You might ask to see a portfolio of their work before settling on a florist you think will

do a good job. Word of mouth and personal recommendation is also a good way of picking a floral artist. Talk to friends who have recently married and see who they recommend and have a good look online for inspiration. After you’ve decided on your theme and colour schemes visit your chosen florist with colour swatches and chat about your many options. You will need to plan your flowers carefully and order for the bride, bridesmaids’ and flower girls, the groom, best man, attendants, page boys, mothers and grandmothers, fathers, grandfathers and ushers. Don’t forget the all important floral decorations for the wedding ceremony and reception venue.

Luscious locks Your hairstyle needs expert attention for a look that will impress but also stay in place all day

P

lan your hairstyle well in advance of your wedding day especially if you are thinking about growing or colouring your hair. There are many options and aspects to consider such as a hair style that links in with your overall theme and the style of your gown. You could be contemporary, have a vintage or retro style or go bohemian. One of the major decisions is whether to have your hair loose and flowing for a natural look or an updo for a more sophisticated look. Collect clippings of hair styles you think would suit your big day and take them along to your stylist who will be happy to help work out the best style, colour and cut. Arrange for a trial styling to ensure you are happy with the hairstyle you have chosen and make sure you have firm bookings for the wedding day.

When you’ve decided on your style take any accessories to your stylist so she can cut your hair to suit to ensure you look perfect on the day. Most brides prefer to have their hair done together with their bridesmaids on the day of the wedding. Many stylists, and makeup artists, will visit you at home or wherever you are preparing for the wedding to save stress.

Make my day Makeup artist Vania Bailey has some advice to help you look gorgeous on your wedding day

I

f your big day is coming up soon here are a few tips to help you get through one of the biggest days of your life. While the men play golf, watch the rugby and take only 10 minutes to get ready the bride’s day is the complete opposite. So here is some good advice- on your wedding day every bride should look herself - gorgeous! Don’t try and look trendy or different from your usual style. Long lasting makeup is a must so it still looks amazing well after the ceremony. Your makeup needs to look timeless in the photos, so that in 10 years’ time you can look back and still love how you looked. I recommend having a makeup trial at the same time as your hair trial so you can get a picture of what you will look like on the day. A run

through with both makeup artist and hairdresser allows you to be happy and confident with your look for your big day. Remember, there is a big difference between everyday clothes and a wedding dress, so there should be a difference in your makeup and hairstyle. It’s a great idea to pack a small makeup bag for touch-ups on the day. And for all newly engaged brides to beget booking and trialling. Don’t be afraid to book 12 months in advance, it’s very common in this industry.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDE

look your best for your big day The wedding gown has been chosen and invitations sent. Everything is ticked off. But wait, there’s one more item that needs to be added to the list – your face! Now is the time to start working towards healthy, glowing skin. Just follow our simple six-month programme and you’ll be putting your best face forward on your big day. Six months to go: Consult a professional. Here are some of the treatments an expert may recommend: • Uneven skin tone, dull complexion: A course of advanced skin treatments such as Microdermabrasion; a safe, non invasive treatment that resurfaces the skin leaving you refreshed and glowing. • Broken blood vessels, dark skin spots: Photo Rejuvenation may be suitable. • Fine lines and wrinkles: Over time forehead lines become visible at rest- and makeup can make this obvious. Crows feet show up when you squint or smile. These can be softened with cosmetic injections. • Kissable lips: Dermal fillers can be used to enhance shape and provide volume. • Invest in a quality home routine, and stick to it.

One week to go: One final treatment a week before your wedding is ideal. Be wary of trying anything new this close to your big day. It only takes one new ingredient that your body doesn’t like to create a skin allergy or break out - and that's a stress no bride needs! To keep your best features looking fantastic have the ultimate eye treatment. Caci offer lash and eyebrow tinting, eyebrow shaping and firming eye mask treatments. The night before: Follow your normal skincare routine. Get at least eight hours sleep! On the day: Enjoy the results of your dedicated skincare. Leave the rest up to the makeup artist and enjoy the day!

Ask Caci how you can look photo ready for the big event. Caci offer tailored programmes to suit your skin’s individual needs, hair removal options, appearance medicine, facials, microdermabrasion and beauty therapy treatments. Caci can help you to look and feel your best.

Girls’ night out Having a female get together before the big day is an age-old tradition

A

hen party is traditionally organized by the maid of honour with help from the bridesmaids. Costs are shared between the bridal attendants and the idea is to have a fun, affordable, safe and even a slightly naughty occasion that will be remembered for years to come. Contemporary celebrations often last

Nestled in the heart of Esk Valley, overlooking rolling hills and vineyards a plenty.

through the day and well into the night with many ending in a night on the town. Within the Bay there’s no shortage of activities although food and wine are often involved thanks to the abundance of vineyards and restaurants. Many hen parties have a theme which add a sense of fun to afternoon activities which might be a winery tour by bicycle or horse riding. For those looking for relaxation and a spot of pampering there are some great opportunities to enjoy an afternoon at a spa or beauty parlour. The evening might start off with snacks and games at the ‘hens’ house, maybe a partially clad waiter or bar man could spice up the event? The evening is often rounded off with a trip to where there are plenty of bars and entertainment on offer. Often the fun will continue with the ‘hen’ having to fulfill a number of dares that’ll ensure the memory, and photos, of the night lingers for many years. Weekends away to Taupo, Rotorua, Auckland or Wellington are also becoming increasingly popular.

Marry in the vines and then enjoy food and wine Hawke’s Bay is so renown for. The perfect place for you to sit, relax, take in the picturesque views and enjoy quality cuisine accompanied by a glass of Linden Estate wine. Bella Events carries a range of decorating products including chair covers, sashes, table cloths, napkins, vases and more. Our items are a cost effective way to transform your event into an inspired occasion. Chair covers start from just $3.00 and over winter our sashes are included in the chair cover price for no extra!

Weekends away are becoming increasingly popular be it in Rotorua or Taupo for outdoor activities such as white water rafting, bungy jumping and kayaking or Auckland and Wellington for more sophisticated entertainment. Sydney too is within easy reach for an exciting weekend and plenty more opportunities to indulge in some memorable excitement. Other adventurous outdoor activities such as archery, helicopter rides, hunting, fishing and mountain biking are also interesting alternatives. There are pub crawls and escorted brewery tours along with plenty of organized stag packages to choose from. Coaches and buses can be hired to ensure all can have a good time without compromising safety or a dedicated driver should be appointed. The warmer months offer up even more opportunities to explore Hawke’s

Bay wine country by two or four wheels or even on horseback. A weekend at a remote local beach offers potential for fishing, diving and a beach party along with bbq.

Mothers matter

You want the ‘feel good look good’ factor in an outfit that will be photographed and scrutinized throughout the day

T

radition says that the mother of the bride chooses her outfit first, but it’s also become customary to discuss choices with the mother of the groom beforehand if you wish. Wait until the bride has decided on the wedding style and colour theme so that you can coordinate your outfit accordingly. Look at a dress style that is appropriate to the style of wedding, whether casual, semi-formal or formal. The time of day can also dictate whether you wear short, cocktail length or a floor length gown, or whether you wear a hat. Pick a colour range that complements your natural colouring, the season and the wedding party. You can either select the same general

colour palette but a different tone, or go for the diametrically opposite shade on the colour wheel. Alternatively you could select a patterned fabric that highlights the colour of the bridesmaids’ gowns or go for a neutral outfit with colourful accessories. Look for gorgeous, but also for comfort. If you are unsure of the weather, consider a jacket, bolero, shrug, wrap or sleeves and make sure your outfit will let you sit, stand, walk and dance without fear! Accessories can make or break an outfit, so take care with shoes, bag, hat and jewellery. Less is usually more and a single statement item will always be classier than the busy look.

Memorable music

Weddings HAWKE’S BAY 2015 | 23

Your choice of music for the ceremony will create a lasting impression and great memories

T

he music for your ceremony should express love and commitment which could mean a live performance of a favourite song or a CD, traditional hymns or for traditionalists a wedding march. If you have chosen a church wedding options include an organist, string quartet or a solo singer or musician. Your wedding theme could influence your style of music or band jazz, a DJ or hire a juke box? After the meal is time for people to relax and start partying so the choice of music should encourage people to get to their feet. For the reception music, if you are hiring a DJ or a band, when your guests RSVP, ask them to name their

favourite song and add it to the playlist. You may choose to make your own digital compilation to play during the reception. Early on at the reception you’ll want to talk to people so you don’t want it too obtrusive or noisy to begin with. You can party after the meal and first dance. The bride and groom traditionally have the first dance together and the music is always a song that has a special significance for the couple. After the first dance the bride and groom take other partners: the bride with her father, father-in-law, best man and the groom with his mother, motherin-law and bridesmaids then the other guests take to the dance floor.

Picture perfect Choosing your wedding photographer is right up there with choosing Mr Right. To help you make the right decision Hawke’s Bay photographer, Natalie McNally, has some tips.

S

o you’re getting married – congratulations. And now you’re looking for the perfect photographer to capture your amazing day. There are many considerations to think about but I feel these four are essential to choosing the photographer right for you.

We offer friendly advice, extensive experience and a wealth of knowledge to create beautiful wedding flowers to suit all budgets.

Style - Every photographer has their own unique style. Find a photographer who shoots and edits the style of photos you think will best reflect the essence

of your wedding. If you connect with their images, and can easily imagine yourself in them, then you’re on the right track! Many couples today want a good balance of creative, reportage and formal images in their wedding album. If so look for a photographer who has this flexibility. Budget - Try not to book your photographer purely based on budget as there are so many more important

Weddings HAWKE’S BAY 2015 | 25 factors to consider first. You’re buying a service, experience, commissioned art and an heirloom all in one. The relationship between you and your photographer is a very close one, they’ll be at your side on one of the most important days of your life so don’t just pick their name out of a pool of names because they were the cheapest or offered you more photos. Invest now for your future selves and family because photos and memories last a lifetime and can’t be retaken. Experience - Having a friend with a ‘good camera’ won’t necessarily guarantee you good wedding photos. An experienced wedding photographer will be able to quickly handle any curve balls

that will inevitably come their way on the day, such as bad weather or lighting, a change in schedule, or an unruly bridal party. They will also know how the day flows, meaning they will know when and where to be to capture all of those important moments. Personality - You should trust and get along with your photographer - that way you can leave the magic of photo making in the photographer’s hands. Not only should you like their images, you should also like them! After all, you’ll be spending many hours with them during your wedding day. Meet with them often beforehand - the better you know each other the more at ease you’ll be with them which will result in better photos.

Today’s grooms are keen to create a look that complements the bride’s style while fitting their own personality and desire for comfort

T

hese days most grooms are not afraid to express their own style and it seems that anything goes from suits and ties to shorts and jandals. Much depends, of course, on the theme of the wedding, the venue and the degree of formality. Brides are usually consulted to ensure the continuity of the wedding theme, but grooms should try a variety of styles to see which suits their height and body shape best. Those of medium height and build can wear almost any style, but for other body shapes, the cut, style, length and fit should all be considered. A tall, thin guy might suit a double breasted jacket and pleated trousers but a shorter male may suit a longer jacket and tailored trousers. Those who are tall and solid might choose a single breasted jacket possibly with a shawl collar without notched lapels that minimises stockiness. For the same

reason select a waistcoat rather than a cummerbund. The groom usually wears something to distinguish him from his best man and groomsmen. They might wear the same suits but different coloured shirts or perhaps a differently styled jacket.

Weddings HAWKE’S BAY 2015 | 27 Small touches make all the difference such as waistcoats, coordinated ties, matching socks or special cufflinks which work together to blend with the tone of the ceremony and overall colour scheme. Hire, buy or borrow, whatever suit style you choose be sure it’s design, fabric and fit will flatter you and that it’s appropriate for the season and the occasion. Ensure it’s cleaned, pressed and tailored for ideal length too! Just as the bride needs to work on a health and beauty program so does the groom. Both the bride and groom both need to be in tip top condition, fit, healthy and looking their best. Why not work out together as a couple or diet and exercise together? Let’s not forget the hair which will need styling several weeks ahead of the wedding to give it time to settle for the photographs. Extra care with the

cut and conditioning will ensure all the men look their best. A manicure will have his hands looking good for the photos. Don’t forget the all important finishing touches such as shoes, socks, cufflinks, watch and a belt.

Arrive in style The theme, style or atmosphere of a wedding is often reflected in the transport chosen for the bride’s arrival

Y

ou might want to make your entrance or exit in unique style, but it is wise to check out availability and practicality when making your choice of wedding vehicle. Classic or vintage cars - These tend to be booked up well in advance so act quickly once you’ve decided on the date for the wedding. Double-decker bus or coach A bus, a fun way to get around, can also transport your wedding guests, ensuring they find their way to the ceremony and reception and that they are delivered safely back to their accommodation.

Boat - If you’re going near waterways, arriving by boat could be just the ticket. Horse and carriage or horseback - For a truly romantic start to your ceremony nothing can beat arriving in a horsedrawn carriage. Helicopter - What about a chopper for serious thrills and a grand entrance? If there’s a distance to travel it could also be quite practical. Two wheelers- For something even less conventional, you might consider a vintage motorbike and sidecar or a tandem bike. Whatever type of transport you choose, you will still want comfort, punctuality and reliability.

For Award Winning Professional Service

Weddings can be a daunting affair, but as with most NZ weddings, the hardest part is getting started with initial wedding preparations.

Time to relax A time of peaceful harmony

W

hether your most romantic holiday ever is a tropical island getaway with your own secluded beach, a country lodge or hideaway cottage, your honeymoon is a private celebration of your new life together. It’s a chance to relax, unwind and chill out after what’s likely to have been a frantic time in the lead up to the wedding. Traditionally organized and paid for by the groom as a surprise, these days honeymoon planning and costs are usually shared or contributions made by friends and relatives. The world is literally your oyster and if you plan ahead well enough you can generally find some great deals either in Hawke’s Bay, wider New Zealand or further afield. New Zealand, for example,

offers getaways, to Taupo, Nelson, Queenstown and the Bay of Islands. South Pacific islands conjure up images of hot lazy days lying beneath palm trees with a cocktail in hand and there’s a great choice from the Fiji Islands, to the Cook Islands, New Caledonia or romantic Tahiti. When inquiring about holiday options always mention that you will be on your honeymoon as you could receive special treats such as champagne on arrival or a room upgrade. If you are travelling overseas you’ll need to allow time to get a passport, visas, finalise money matters and don’t forget to check if you need any special vaccinations - time to enjoy!

The team at Best Travel can assist you with your overseas wedding planning, from airfares, accommodation, and wedding venues, to putting you in touch with a wedding planner who can do it all for you. Also what if you already have most of the necessities to feather a nest, or neither of you have much interest in domestic acquisitions, or you’re simply hoping that wedding gifts pay off in something you really want to do --like travel? In that case, and for couples who might not otherwise be able to afford a great trip, signing up for a honeymoon gift registry with Best Travel could ensure you get wedding gifts you really want
