Φίλες και φίλοι του Απόλλωνα, Σας χαιρετώ από ακόμη μια συλλεκτική έκδοση ενόψει της 109ης αναμέτρησης της ομάδας μας στις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις.

Ο Απόλλωνας συμμετέχει για δέκατη διαδοχική χρονιά στις διοργανώσεις της UEFA και το σχετικό ρεκόρ συνεχίζει να διευρύνεται, αφού από την αγωνιστική περίοδο 2013-2014 το όνομα του συλλόγου βρίσκεται στις κληρώσεις της ευρωπαϊκής ομοσπονδίας.

Η Ισραηλινή Μακάμπι Χάιφα, απέδειξε ότι είναι μια σκληροτράχηλη ομάδα, για την οποία μπορείτε να διαβάσετε περισσότερες λεπτομέρειες στις επόμενες σελίδες του προγράμματος αγώνα.

Δυστυχώς η διαφορά ετοιμότητας αλλά και ποιότητας φάνηκε στο πρώτο παιχνίδι, με το σκορ να φανερώνει την αλήθεια από μόνο του.

Παρά την απογοήτευση του πρώτου αγώνα, η ομάδα μας θα παλέψει για το καλύτερο δυνατό και για να παρουσιάσει ένα εντελώς διαφορετικό πρόσωπο σε σχέση με αυτό στο Ισραήλ.

Greetings from yet another collector’s edition ahead of our team’s 109th match in European competitions.

Apollon participates for the tenth consecutive year in the UEFA competitions and the related record continues to expand since the 2013-2014 season the club’s name is in the draws of the European federation.

Israel’s Maccabi Haifa proved to be a tough team which you can read more about in the following pages of the match schedule.

Unfortunately, the difference in readiness and quality was evident in the first game with the score revealing the truth by itself.

Despite the disappointment of the first match, our team will fight for the best possible outcome and present a completely different face compared to the one in Israel.

«Αγαπητοί Απολλωνίστες, συμμετέχουμε στην κορυφαία διασυλλογική διοργάνωση -το Champions League- και όπως είναι φυσιολογικό, συμμετέχουν ομάδες υψηλού επιπέδου. Όταν δεν είσαι απόλυτα συγκεντρωμένος και δεν αποδώσεις αυτό που πρέπει στον αγωνιστικό χώρο, τότε έρχονται απογοητευτικές βραδιές όπως αυτή που βιώσαμε την περασμένη Τετάρτη στο Ισραήλ. Δυστυχώς η απόδοσή μας δεν έφτασε στο σημείο που θέλαμε. Δεν πρόκειται να κερδίσεις κανένα αγώνα σε αυτό το επίπεδο όταν κάνεις τόσα πολλά λάθη, καθώς ο αντίπαλος μπορεί να εκμεταλλευτεί την παραμικρή ολιγωρία.

Παρά την οδυνηρή ήττα, θα δουλέψουμε, θα αναλύσουμε το ότι έγινε στον αγωνιστικό χώρο και ως μεγάλη

ομάδα οφείλουμε να συνεχίσουμε και να προχωρήσουμε. Δίνουμε τον πρώτο μας αγώνα της σεζόν εντός έδρας και θα έχουμε την ευκαιρία να ανταποδώσουμε. Θα τα δώσουμε όλα παρά τις περιορισμένες

πιθανότητες πρόκρισης. Πρέπει να είμαστε δυνατοί και αποφασιστικοί, να δουλέψουμε σκληρά με και χωρίς τη μπάλα και να επιδείξουμε περισσότερη ποιότητα αν θέλουμε να κερδίσουμε απόψε.

Ανυπομονούμε να σας συναντήσουμε ξανά στις εξέδρες του ΓΣΠ, παρόλο που δεν είναι η πραγματική μας έδρα, καθώς θα πρέπει να γίνει το ταξίδι στη Λευκωσία για να βρίσκεστε πλευρό της αγαπημένης σας ομάδα.».

Tonight it is the second leg of the third qualification round of the Champions league and of course, the opponents you face in this stage are on a high level. First, we are looking forward to see our fans again, even though it is not our real home ground and we know that you must travel to Nicosia to be beside your favourite team.

Unfortunately, our performance in first leg was not up to par and did not meet your expectations. We did not show up with the ball and against the ball and when this happens, you have no chance to win. If you make too many mistakes on this level, the opponent is able to take advantage. We have analysed everything and we need to continue despite the painful defeat.

We have to show up. We have to be strong and brave. The work against the ball and with the ball must be on a higher quality if you want to compete with a team like Maccabi.

Βαριά ήττα στη Χάιφα

Άσχημο ήταν το ξεκίνημα της ομάδας μας στη φετινή σεζόν αφού δέχθηκε τη βαριά ήττα με 4-0 από τη Μακάμπι Χάιφα στο Σάμι Οφέρ στο πλαίσιο του πρώτου αγώνα του 3ου προκριματικού γύρου του UEFA Champions League.

Οι γηπεδούχοι μπήκαν πιο δυνατά στον αγωνιστικό χώρο και με μια εξαιρετική εμφάνιση δημιούργησαν πολλά προβλήματα στην ομάδα μας. Στο 38’ ο Πεμπερνές με αυτογκόλ έδωσε το προβάδισμα στην Ισραηλινή ομάδα μετά από προσπάθεια του Χαζίζα από τα αριστερά.

Στο 54’ ο Μοχάμεντ με δυνατό εναέριο βολέ σημείωσε το 2-0 ενώ ο ίδιος ποδοσφαιριστής στο 62’ με κοντινή κεφαλιά «έγραψε» το 3-0. Στο μεταξύ ο Βουκασίν Γιοβάνοβιτς αποβλήθηκε με δεύτερη κίτρινη κάρτα στο 60ο λεπτό για φάουλ στη μεσαία γραμμή, υποχρεώνοντας την ομάδα μας να συνεχίσει με δέκα ποδοσφαιριστές. Στο 79’ ο Πιερό διαμόρφωσε το τελικό σκορ με κεφαλιά ψαράκι.

Heavy defeat in Haifa

Our team had a bad start to this season after suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat against Maccabi Haifa at Sami Ofer Stadium in the first leg of the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

The home team came on the pitch stronger and with a great performance created a lot of problems for our team. In the 38th minute, Peybernes with an own goal gave the lead to the Israeli team after an effort by Haziza from the left.

In the 54th minute, Mohamed scored 2-0 with a powerful aerial volley, while the same footballer in the 62nd minute with a close header «wrote» the 3-0. In the meantime, Vukasin Jovanovic was sent off with a second yellow card in the 60th minute for a foul in midfield forcing our team to continue with ten players. In the 79th minute, Piero created the final score with a header.

Η Maccabi Haifa FC ιδρύθηκε το 1913. Από την ίδρυσή της, ο σύλλογος έχει κερδίσει το Πρωτάθλημα της Ισραηλινής Πρέμιερ Λιγκ 14 φορές και το Κύπελλο IFA 7 φορές. Το 1992, ο σύλλογος έγραψε ιστορία και έγινε ο πρώτος ισραηλινός ποδοσφαιρικός σύλλογος που έγινε ιδιωτικός, ενώ μεταφέρθηκε από τον δήμο της Χάιφα και τον οργανισμό «Maccabi Israel» στη Mayer’s Cars & Trucks Co. Ltd που ανήκει στον κ. Jacob Shachar και στον κ. Israel Kass.

Από τότε ο σύλλογος έγινε ένας από τους ισχυρότερους αθλητικούς οργανισμούς στο Ισραήλ και έκτισε ισχυρή φήμη τόσο στις εγχώριες, όσο και στις διεθνείς διοργανώσεις. Κατά τη διάρκεια της σεζόν 2002/03, ο σύλλογος προκρίθηκε στη φάση των ομίλων του UEFA Champions League για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία του ισραηλινού ποδοσφαίρου. Ως αποτέλεσμα της διεθνούς αναγνώρισης και των επιτευγμάτων, ο σύλλογος έχει καθιερωθεί ως ο μεγαλύτερος εξαγωγέας Ισραηλινών ποδοσφαιριστών στη διεθνή αγορά και συνεχίζει να αναπτύσσεται σε εθνικό επίπεδο.

The history of Maccabi Haifa

Maccabi Haifa FC was founded in 1913.Since its foundation, the Club has won the Israeli Premier League Championship 14 times and won the IFA Cup 7 times. In 1992, the Club made history and became the first Israeli football club to be privately owned, while the club was transferred from Haifa municipality and “Maccabi Israel” organization to “Mayer’s”Cars & Trucks Co. Ltd that owned by Mr. Jacob Shachar and Mr. Israel Kass. Since than the club became one of the strongest sports organizations in Israel and made honorable reputation for itself both foreign and domestic competitions. During the 2002/3 season, the Club qualified for the UEFA Champions’ League group stage for the first time in Israeli football history. As a result of the international recognition and achievements, the Club has established itself as the major exporter of Israeli footballers to the international market and continue its growths in the national level.

Η Χάιφα είναι η μεγαλύτερη πόλη στο βόρειο Ισραήλ και η τρίτη μεγαλύτερη πόλη της χώρας, με πληθυσμό πάνω από 270.000 κατοίκους. Επιπλέον 300.000 κάτοικοι ζουν σε πόλεις στα περίχωρα όπως η Ντάλιγιατ αλ-Κάρμελ, η Κράγιοτ, η Νέσερ, η Τίρατ Κάρμελ, καθώς και σε κάποια κιμπούτς. Όλες αυτές οι περιοχές αποτελούν μία συνεχόμενη αστική περιοχή με σχεδόν 600.000 κάτοικους, η οποία συνιστά τον εσωτερικό πυρήνα της μητροπολιτικής περιοχής της Χάιφας. Στην πόλη βρίσκεται το Παγκόσμιο Κέντρο Μπαχάι, Μνημείο Παγκόσμιας Κληρονομιάς της UNESCO.

Η πόλη είναι χτισμένη στις πλαγιές του όρους Καρμήλου, σε τοποθεσία με οικιστική ιστορία άνω των 3.000 χρόνων. Ο παλαιότερος οικισμός στην περιοχή ήταν το Τελ Αμπού Χαγουάμ, πόλη-λιμένας, που χτίστηκε κατά την εποχή του χαλκού. Στο πέρασμα των αιώνων η πόλη βρέθηκε υπό την κατοχή των Φοινίκων, των Περσών, των Ασμοναίων, των Ρωμαίων, των

Βυζαντινών, των Αράβων, των Σταυροφόρων, των Οθωμανών, των Βρετανών και των Ισραηλινών. Από την εγκαθίδρυση του Κράτους του Ισραήλ το 1948 και μετά, η πόλη διοικείται από το Δήμο της Χάιφας.

Σήμερα η πόλη είναι σημαντικό λιμάνι στις μεσογειακές ακτές του Ισραήλ και βρίσκεται στον κόλπο της Χάιφας με έκταση 63,7 τ.χλμ. Σε αυτή βρίσκεται το Ματάμ, ένα από τα παλαιότερα και μεγαλύτερα πάρκα υψηλής τεχνολογίας στη χώρα. Ο κόλπος της Χάιφας είναι κέντρο βαριάς βιομηχανίας, διύλισης πετρελαίου και χημικής βιομηχανίας, ενώ στη Χάιφα παλαιότερα κατέληγε η δυτική άκρη αγωγού πετρελαίου από το Ιράκ μέσω της Ιορδανίας.

Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus with a population of approximately 180,000. It is one of six districts and covers an area of 34.87 km2. Located on the southern coast, Limassol stretches around westward to the Paphos district, bordering with the district of Larnaca on the east and with Nicosia on the north. In addition to the recognized popularity as a tourism destination, Limassol is also an administrative and business centre, a port, a resort, the centre of the wine industry and home to many archeological sites.

The vivacious city centre, seems to offer a journey through time where the University with its bustling young students aiming for a brighter future is just a few streets away from the old market and ancient castle which link us to the past. Gracefully blending old with new continues, as across the seafront one can appreciate the cosmopolitan side of Limassol with its contemporary business structures and modern apartment buildings while only several kilometers away one can find charming areas with cobblestone streets, quaint buildings with overhanging terraces under which there are a profusion of small shops, restaurants and cafes.

The city of Limassol has a rich history that goes back to around the 2nd century B.C. The city is situated between the ancient cities of Amathous to the east and Kourion to the west. Limassol was inhabited since the very ancient years and tombs discovered there date back to around the 2nd century B.C., while oth-

ers date back to around the 8th and 4th centuries B.C. The few ancient finds that were discovered show that a small settlement existed there which did not manage to develop and flourish.

The city, in the 10th century, was known as Nemesos and the Byzantine emperor, Constantine Porphyrogenitus, refers to this city with this name. The history of the city is mainly known for its events in 1191 A.D., which marked the end of the Byzantine Rule in Cyprus. Limassol was then surrendered to the Frankish Empire of the Lusignan Kings of the medieval Cypriot kingdom. For about three centuries (1192-1489), Limassol experienced a remarkable period of prosperity. In 1489 A.D., the Queen of Cyprus, Ekaterini Cornaro, surrendered Cyprus to the city of Venice. This lasted until the Turkish Occupation took place in 1570 A.D. Then the British conquered Cyprus in 1878, while in 1960 significant changes followed the liberation of Cyprus, which contributed to the cultural and artistic life of the city. Schools, theatres, art galleries, music halls and football clubs were formed and played a significant role in the cultural life of Limassol.

The city of Limassol was developed much after the Turkish invasion of 1974. Luxurious hotels, restaurants and numerous entertainment clubs were built and thus the city soon became a significant touristic centre.

Ο Απόλλωνας παρά την πλούσια ιστορία του στις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις, πρώτη φορά θα αντιμετωπίσει ομάδα από τη χώρα του Ισραήλ. Επίσης, για πρώτη φορά Κυπριακή ομάδα θα αντιμετωπίσει Ισραηλινή για τη διοργάνωση του UEFA Champions League.

Από την πλευρά της η Μακάμπι Χάιφα, παρά το γεγονός ότι αγωνίζεται ανελλιπώς στην Ευρώπη από το 1993-1994 που εντάχθηκε το Ισραήλ στις τάξεις της UEFA, ο Απόλλωνας είναι μόλις η δεύτερη κυπριακή ομάδα που αντιμετωπίζει.

History with Israeli Teams

Apollon, despite its rich history in European competitions, will face a team from the country of Israel for the first time. Also, for the first time a Cypriot team will face an Israeli team for the organization of the UEFA Champions League. For Maccabi Haifa’s part, despite the fact that they have been competing continuously in Europe since 1993-1994 when Israel joined the ranks of UEFA, Apollon is the second Cypriot team they face.

They preceded with the double encounters with rival AEK for the institution of the UEFA Europa League in the 2011-2012 season with a record of one win and one loss.

Cyprus is located in the northeast of the Mediterranean, at the intersection point of Europe, Asia and Africa. Cyprus enjoys a wonderful Mediterranean climate. Apart from the rainfall period between November and March, Cyprus is constantly sunny. The average temperatures range from 8°C (42°F), during the coldest month, December, to 35°C (96°F) during the warmest month, which is August. However, weather is not the only attractive characteristic of the island. The people of Cyprus are equally famous, for the warm and friendly welcoming they provide to their visitors.

In May, 2004, Cyprus became officially a member of the European Union and in 2008 entered the Eurozone, thus connecting Europe and Middle East and the rest of the world.

Having been recognized as the ultimate business and financial centre in the wider area, the island has competitive advantages in sectors such as tourism, provision of consulting services, banking and insuring services, investments and construction business, shipping and telecommunications.

Με διαφορετική προοπτική περιμέναμε αυτό το παιχνίδι, έναν ιστορικό αγώνα στο θεσμό του Champions League, αλλά δυστυχώς το σκορ του εκτός έδρας αγώνα δεν αφήνει περιθώριο για πολλά. Πώς το αντιμετωπίζετε εσείς στην ομάδα; Το αποτέλεσμα του πρώτου αγώνα δεν ήταν καθόλου κολακευτικό για την ομάδα μας, ήταν καταστροφικό θα έλεγα. Δυστυχώς φανήκαμε κατώτεροι των προσδοκιών και το 4-0 δεν μας αφήνει αρκετές πιθανότητες για πρόκριση. Δεν ήταν η μέρα μας ξεκάθαρα. Απογοητευτήκαμε αλλά δεν θα μείνουμε εκεί Γυρίζουμε σελίδα και βλέπουμε μπροστά. Δεν υπάρχει χρόνος για χάσιμο, καθώς οι αγωνιστικές υποχρεώσεις τρέχουν. Δεν πρέπει να μείνουμε κολλημένοι. Αισθανόμαστε την ανάγκη και την υποχρέωση να παρουσιάσουμε καλύτερη εικόνα και να κερδίσουμε απόψε.

Πιστεύεις ότι μια νίκη απόψε θα είναι κάτι σαν εξιλέωση μετά το πρώτο παιχνίδι; Δεν θα αποτελέσει εξιλέωση αλλά το οφείλουμε στους εαυτούς μας. Δεν ήταν τόσο μεγάλη η διαφορά ποιότητας για να έχουμε αυτό το σκορ. Επαναλαμβάνω ότι δεν ήταν η μέρα μας κι αυτοί ίσως να είχαν το καλύτερο τους παιχνίδι. Μέχρι το 60΄ ήμασταν ανταγωνιστικοί και η αποβολή όπως ήταν φυσιολογικό, επηρέασε σε μεγάλο βαθμό την ομάδα μας.

Ποιο είναι το κλειδί για να κερδίσετε απόψε; Πιστεύω στην αποφασιστικότητα και στον εγωισμό μας. Θέλουμε να αποδείξουμε ότι ήταν μια κακή παρένθεση ο αγώνας στο Ισραήλ.

Statements to the Match Program of the rematch against Maccabi Haifa were given by one of our team’s captains Ioannis Pittas who stated that determination and the will to win will be the key to victory in tonight’s match.

With a different perspective we were expecting this game, an historic match in the Champions League competition, but unfortunately the score of the away match does not leave room for much. How do you treat this in the team?

The result of the first match was not at all flattering for our team, disastrous I would say. Unfortunately, we appeared below expectations and 4-0 does not leave us enough chances to qualify. It wasn’t our day clearly. We were disappointed but we will not stay there . We turn the page and look ahead. There is no time to waste as the game obligations are fast approaching. We must not stay stuck. We feel the need and obligation to present a better image and win tonight.

Do you think a win tonight will be something of an atonement after the first game? It will not be an atonement, but we owe it to ourselves. It wasn’t that big the difference in quality to have that score. I repeat it wasn’t our day and they might have had their best game. By the 60th minute we were competitive and the sendoff as was normal, affected our team to a great extent.

What is the key to winning tonight?

I believe in our determination and selfishness. We want to prove that the struggle in Israel was a bad parenthesis.

GSP Stadium

This season will hopefully be the last season where we host European games away from Limassol. Apollon stated as home groud GSP stadium, given that it is the most modern stadium in Cyprus.

Built in 1999, is a category 4 stadium and can seat up to 22.829 people. Its dimensions are 105mX68m and its flood lighting is 15000 Lux.
