Αγαπητοί ομοϊδεάτες… ευρωπαίοι Απολλωνίστες, σας χαιρετώ από μια ακόμη ιστορική και συλλεκτική έκδοση της Εταιρείας Απόλλων Ποδόσφαιρο με αφορμή την αποψινή αναμέτρηση στο Γ.Σ.Π με αντίπαλο την πολυδιαφημισμένη Λάτσιο.

Η ομάδα μας η οποία πραγματικά συνεχίζει να γοητεύει με τη συνολική της παρουσία σε εγχώριες και ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις, θα προσπαθήσει να επαναλάβει ότι και την 3η Οκτωβρίου στην παγωμένη Πολωνία.

Ο Απόλλωνας θυμίζει πλέον Απόλλωνα. Ομάδα με αρχή και τέλος και με οργάνωση σε όλα τα επίπεδα την οποία θα ζήλευαν και οι μεγαλύτεροι σύλλογοι στην Ευρώπη.

Our team truly continues to offer fascination with its presence in domestic and European tournaments and tonight will try to repeat the success of October 3rd in the game against Legia in freezing Poland.

Apollon delivers a performance reminiscent of past glories. An all-rounded team characterized by organization at all levels, which even the biggest football clubs in Europe would envy. The praise and ardent comments we receive in Cyprus and in Europe indicate that the club is experiencing one of the top moments in its history during a milestone year for all of us, considering that it marks the 60th anniversary and a 60-year history since the club’s establishment.

Those of us close to the team know that what we have experienced in the past few months IS JUST THE BEGINNING!

Με τον αποψινό αγώνα δίνουμε

συνέχεια σ΄ ένα εκπληκτικό και

απρόσμενο ευρωπαϊκό ταξίδι από το οποίο μόνο οφέλη θα αποκομίσουμε ως σύλλογος. Σίγουρα το οικονομικό όφελος είναι πάρα πολύ σημαντικό στις δύσκολες εποχές που βιώνουμε, ωστόσο οι παραστάσεις και οι εμπειρίες που θα αποκομίσουμε στο αγωνιστικό μέρος είναι το μεγαλύτερο μας κέρδος.

Παιχνίδια όπως το αποψινό εδώ στο Γ.Σ.Π αφήνουν τεράστια κληρονομιά στην ομάδα μας και το σύλλογο γενικότερα. Μπορεί οι πιθανότητες και τα προγνωστικά να μην είναι με το μέρος της ομάδας μας, ωστόσο θα μετρήσουμε δυνάμεις, θα δούμε πως αυτή η παγκόσμια εμβέλειας ομάδα συμπε-

ριφέρεται και πολλά αλλά τα οποία με το απλό μάτι του φίλαθλου δεν γίνονται εύκολα αντιληπτά.

Εμείς θα κάνουμε το δικό μας παιχνίδι για να πάρουμε ότι καλύτερο. Σίγουρα άγχος και πίεση δεν υπάρχουν στους δικούς μου ποδοσφαιριστές, αλλά παθός και διάθεση για το καλύτερο δυνατό αποτέλεσμα.

With tonight’s game we are continuing our stunning and unexpected European journey from which we can only profit as a football club. Of course, the economic benefit is very important in the difficult times we are going through, but the experiences we are going to take away after the match make up our greatest gain.

A game like tonight’s game here in GSP Stadium leaves behind a huge legacy to our team and the club in general. The odds and predictions may not stand in our favor, yet we will put our strengths to the test, see how this world-renowned team behaves on the field and much more that may not be so easily apparent to the unskilled eyes of our team’s supporters.

We will play our own game with the aim to achieve the best we can. There is no stress and pressure among my football players. Instead, they are overwhelmed with passion and determination for the best possible outcome.

Limassol ... A history of 4000 years

H Λεμεσός αποτελεί τη δεύτερη μεγαλύτερη πόλη της Κύπρου και τη νοτιότερη της Ευρώπης. Ο πληθυσμός της ανέρχεται στους 140.952 κατοίκους εντός των δημοτικών ορίων και στους περίπου 250.000 στην ευρύτερη αστική περιοχή.

Η Λεμεσός κατοικήθηκε από τα πολύ παλιά χρόνια και τάφοι οι οποίοι βρέθηκαν εκεί χρονολογούνται

γύρω στο 2000 π.χ. ενώ άλλοι γύρω στον 8ο και 4ο αιώνα π.χ. Η πόλη βρίσκεται

στο νοτιότερο τμήμα της Κύπρου, χτισμένη αμφιθεατρικά πάνω στο Κόλπο Ακρωτηρίου, μεταξύ δύο αρχαίων

πόλεων: της Αμαθούντας στα ανατολικά, και του Κουρίου στα δυτικά.

Γνωστή ανάμεσα στις πόλεις της Κύπρου για την πλούσια νυχτερινή ζωή της, την πολιτιστική της παράδοση, τους αρχαιολογικούς χώρους και μνημεία, η Λεμεσός είναι επίσης το μεγαλύτερο λιμάνι του νησιού και ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου. Η Λεμεσός διαθέτει το δικό της Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο, ένα αξιόλογο Θεατρικό Μουσείο και ένα μικρό Μουσείο Λαϊκής Τέχνης. Επιπλέον, υπάρχει ένας μεγάλος δημοτικός κήπος ο οποίος διαθέτει ένα μικρό ζωολογικό κήπο καθώς και ένα μεγάλο αμφιθέατρο. Σε αυτό τον κήπο διεξάγεται κάθε Σεπτέμβριο η Γιορτή του Κρασιού, πόλος έλξης τόσο για τους πολίτες όσο και για τουρίστες. Μέσα σε ένα από τα πιο όμορφα και γνωστά κτήρια της πόλης στεγάζεται και η Δημοτική Βιβλιοθήκη, η οποία έχει πια μετατραπεί σε μια από τις πανεπιστημιακές βιβλιοθήκες του Τεχνολογικού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου.

Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus, being situated in the most southern edge of Europe. Its population stands at about 140,952 residents within the municipal limits and about 250,000 in the wider urban area.

Limassol has been inhabited since ancient times. Tombs found there date back to around 2000 BC while others around the 8th and 4th century BC. The town is located in the southern part of Cyprus, being built in an amphitheater way on the Akrotiri Gulf, between two ancient cities: Amathounta to the east and Kourion to the west.

Limassol is known among the cities of Cyprus for its rich nightlife, cultural traditions, archaeological sites and monuments. It has also the largest port of the island and one of the largest ports in the eastern Mediterranean. Limassol has its own archaeological museum, a remarkable theatre museum and a small folk art museum. In addition, there is a large public garden which has a small zoo and a large amphitheater. The garden is used for the Wine Festival celebrations, which take place every September, attracting both citizens and tourists. One of the most beautiful and well known buildings of the town is the Municipal Library, which has been turned into one of the Cyprus University of Technology libraries.

Ο Πικάσο τη χαρακτήρισε «μητρόπολη με τις τρεις αιωνιότητες - της ηλιοφάνειας, της ουράνιας αύρας και της μουσικής των αιθέρων». Η λέξη «Ρώμη» είναι ελληνική. Τον 4ο π.Χ. αιώνα η Ρώμη ονομαζόταν «πόλις Ελληνίς» (Ηρακλείδης ο Ποντικός). Γι΄ αυτό το 330 η νέα πρωτεύουσα της χριστιανικής αυτοκρατορίας ονομάστηκε όχι Κωνσταντινούπολη, αλλά Νέα Ρώμη, διότι η Παλιά Ρώμη υποβαθμίστηκε σε επαρχιακή πόλη γιατί μεταφέρθηκε ολόκληρη στην ελληνική ανατολική.

ΡΩΜΗ: «Η Αιώνια Πόλη» ROME: «The Eternal City»

Picasso described it as «the metropolis with the three eternitiessunshine, heavenly breeze and music of the skies». The word «Rome» is of Greek origin. In the 4th century AD, Rome was called «polis ellinis» (= Greek city) (Heraclides Ponticus). When the new capital of the Christian empire was transferred to the Greek eastern part of the region in 330 AD, it was named New Rome and not Constantinople. Old Rome was downgraded to a provincial town.

και καλύπτει μια περιοχή 1.500 τετρ. χλμ. Είναι ταυτοχρόνως το πολιτικό, διοικητικό, ιστορικό και καλλιτεχνικό κέντρο της χώρας, έδρα του κράτους του Βατικανού και παγκόσμιο κέντρο του καθολικισμού. Πρωτεύουσα του σύγχρονου ιταλικού κράτους από το 1870, απέχει από τη θάλασσα 28 χλμ.

Η γοητεία της πόλης ξεκινάει από την πλατεία του Βατικανού. Στα μουσεία του Βατικανού οι πάπες έχουν συγκεντρώσει εκθέματα και θησαυρούς ανεκτίμητης αξίας που ξεκινούν από την ετρουσκική εποχή και φθάνουν μέχρι τη μοντέρνα τέχνη. Στην περιοχή που υπήρχε το ιπποδρόμιο του Νέρωνα βρίσκεται η Αποστολική Βιβλιοθήκη (Apostolikca Biblioteca Vaticana) που θεωρείται από τις πλέον φημισμένες στον κόσμο.

Rome is the largest city in Italy with a population of about six million inhabitants and covers an area of 1,500 square km. It serves as the political, administrative, historical and artistic center of the country, the seat of the Vatican state and a global center for Catholicism. It has been the capital of the modern Italian state since 1870 and today boasts over an excellent rail and road network.

The city’s charm starts in the Vatican square which is 340 meters long, 240 meters wide and has 284 pillars. Its circular walls symbolize God’s embrace, big enough for all His followers. The Vatican museums house artifacts and priceless treasures, collected by the popes. These range from the Etruscan era up to the age of modern art. You are bound to feel mesmerized by the perfection of the interior of the Sistine Chapel i.e. Michelangelo’s frescos and Raphael’s wall paintings. In the area that once featured Nero’s hippodrome, we now find the Vatican Apostolic Library (Apostolikca Biblioteca Vaticana), which is considered to be one of the famous libraries in the world.

Το Μήνυμα του Προέδρου • President’s Message

Φίλες και φίλοι του Απόλλωνα, Διανύουμε ήδη τον τρίτο μήνα των αγωνιστικών υποχρεώσεων της ομάδας μας με τα αποτελέσματα να πιστοποιούν την πολύ καλή και μεθοδική δουλειά που επιτελείται σε όλα τα επίπεδα. Σίγουρα ο μήνας Οκτώβριος δεν προσφέρεται ούτε για χαρές, ούτε και για πανηγύρια γιατί ακριβώς δεν μπορείς να εξασφαλίσεις οτιδήποτε. Αισθάνομαι όμως πολύ ικανοποιημένος καθώς βλέπω με πράξεις και αποτελέσματα, ότι το αγωνιστικό και οικονομικό πλάνο το οποίο είχα εκπονήσει πριν από μερικούς μήνες μαζί με τους συνεργάτες μου άρχισε να υλοποιείται, έστω και σε πρώιμη μορφή.

Είναι γεγονός ότι η εικόνα και ο τρόπος λειτουργιάς της ποδοσφαιρικής μας ομάδας έχει αλλάξει ολοκληρωτικά, με τα μέχρι στιγμής

αποτελέσματα να το πιστοποιούν.

Αυτό το οποίο με κάνει να αισθάνομαι περήφανος είναι η συσπείρωση, η ομοψυχία και η σύμπνοια η οποία διέπει αυτή την περίοδο τον Απόλλωνα.

Ήταν ένας από τους προσωπικούς μου στόχους, ζώντας από μικρός τα εσωτερικά προβλήματα που ταλάνιζαν το σύλλογο και που είχαν ως αποτέλεσμα την επικίνδυνη συρρίκνωση του.

Ο δρόμος για να φτάσουμε στον προορισμό μας είναι μακρύς και δύσβατος, τον οποίο θα πρέπει όλοι μαζί να πορευτούμε.

Επαναλαμβάνω και τονίζω ότι τίποτα απολύτως δεν έχουμε πετύχει. Χρειάζεται ακόμη μεγαλύτερη προσπάθεια απ΄ όλους. Τίποτα δεν κερδίζεται με λόγια, αλλά με πράξεις και έργα.

Εύχομαι να απολαύσετε όλη αυτή την υπέροχη διαδρομή και τις στιγμές περηφάνιας που μας προσφέρει η ποδοσφαιρική μας ομάδα…

Dear friends of Apollon,

We are already in the third month of our team’s commitments for the new football season and the results confirm the excellent and methodical work being done at all levels. The month of October is not one for celebrations or festivities, since one cannot actually procure anything. Nevertheless, I am very pleased to see that thanks to our actions and results, the competitive and economic plan I had prepared a few months ago along with my associates is being implemented, even if just in its early stages.

The image and mode of operation of our football team has changed completely, a fact which is confirmed by the results achieved so far.

I feel proud about the dominating feelings of togetherness and unity along with the sense of consonance experienced by all the stakeholders in Apollon FC – players, staff, management, board and, of course, the fans.

This has been one of my personal goals, considering that I had experienced from a young age the internal problems plaguing the club, which led to its serious downsizing. The road to get to our destination is long and arduous and one we should walk together.

I would like to repeat and underline that absolutely nothing yet has been achieved. All of us need to put more effort. Nothing is achieved with words – here we must let our actions do the talking.

I hope you enjoy this wonderful journey and the moments of pride offered to us by our football team...

Το μόνο το οποίο χρειαζόμαστε όλοι στην ομάδα είναι η στήριξη, η εμπιστοσύνη και η ηρεμία. Αν αυτά τα τρία σημαντικά συστατικά τα απολαμβάνουμε από την ολότητα του κόσμου μας, τότε είμαι σίγουρος ότι οι μέρες που θα ακολουθήσουν θα είναι κατά πολύ καλύτερες από αυτές που έχουν ήδη προηγηθεί.

Μπορεί η ομάδα μας να αποτελεί τη σταχτοπούτα του ομίλου, ωστόσο με τις μέχρι τώρα εμφανίσεις της, αποδεικνύει το αντίθετο. Με μια νίκη και μια ήττα, απέναντι σε Λέγκια και Τραπεζούντα αντίστοιχα, αποδεικνύει ότι δίκαια βρίσκεται στους ομίλους της διοργάνωσης.

Place in the group stage rightfully earned

Apollon Limassol FC marks its maiden appearance in an UEFA Europa League group stage and may very well be considered the underdog, but the team’s appearances so far suggest otherwise. Having registered one defeat and one win against Legia and Trabzonspor respectively, Apollon proves that it legitimately deserved to be in the group stage of the tournament.

Surely, we cannot afford to have any thoughts for further distinctions for the time being. Still, our team’s objective is to claim the best possible result in the remaining four matches.

Έγραψε ιστορία μέσα στη Βαρσοβία

Μπορεί στην πρεμιέρα μας στη διοργάνωση κόντρα στην Τραπεζούντα στο Γ.Σ.Π να μην είχαμε εξασφαλίσει βαθμολογικό κέρδος το οποίο βάση της εικόνας των δυο ομάδων αξίζαμε, ωστόσο στο δεύτερο αγώνα μας στην παγωμένη Βαρσοβία κόντρα στη Λέγκια η ομάδα μας έγραψε ιστορία. Με εμφάνιση βγαλμένη από τα καλύτερα μας όνειρα, κέρδισε τους Πολωνούς με 1-0 και έφτασε τους τρεις βαθμούς στη διοργάνωση.

Ταξιδεύοντας στην Πολωνική πρωτεύουσα η σκέψη όλων εμάς που ήμασταν με την αποστολή ήταν στον αγώνα πρωταθλήματος που θα ακολουθούσε με τη Δόξα στο Μακάρειο Στάδιο.

During our trip to the Polish capital, all of us traveling as members of the delegation were thinking about the next First Division Championship game with Doxa Katokopia in Makarios Stadium.

This was because, on the one hand we yearn for success in this year’s championship, and on the other hand, even the mere budget of our Polish opponents denied us any thought of achieving a positive result. However, it seems that the coaching staff and the players had different plans with regard to the encounter on October 3rd. By utilizing the right tactics and equipped with an incredible sense of passion and drive, they achieved what nobody believed to be possible when the delegation was departing from Larnaca International Airport for Warsaw.

Οι μοναδικοί οι οποίοι το πίστεψαν ήταν ο προπονητής μας, οι συνεργάτες του και οι ποδοσφαιριστές μας. Τι κι αν απωλέσαμε το πέναλτι με το Σανγκόι στο 23’, τι κι αν στον αγώνα ντεμπούταρε ο Δαβίδ Ρόχας, το αποτέλεσμα το οποίο άξιζε η ομάδα μας ήταν η νίκη.

Με επίθεση η οποία θα πρέπει να διδάσκεται στα πιο προηγμένα ποδοσφαιρικά σεμινάρια και τέλειωμα το οποίο θα ζήλευαν επιθετικοί παγκόσμιας κλάσης, η ομάδα μας πέτυχε το μοναδικό τέρμα το οποίο έκρινε και την αναμέτρηση στο 56΄με το συνήθη ύποπτο στα ευρωπαϊκά μας παιχνίδια Γκαστόν Σανγκόι.

The only ones who actually believed it was our coach, his assistants and our team’s footballers. It did not matter that Sangoy missed a penalty in the 23rd minute or that David Rojas made his debut appearance in the game – our team deserved to win.

With an attack that should be taught in the most advanced football seminars and a finish that many world famous forward players would envy, Gaston Sangoy, who is our «usual suspect» in European games, scored the only goal of the game in the 56th minute and lead us to victory.

Το πιο μαγικό και ταυτόχρονα ιστορικό οδοιπορικό στις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις πραγματοποιεί η ομάδα μας. Μετά τις επικές αναμετρήσεις με την Νις, το συγκρότημα του Χριστάκη Χριστοφόρου, εξασφάλισε την παρουσία της για πρώτη φορά σε όμιλο ευρωπαϊκής διοργάνωσης.

Πλέον ο Απόλλωνας εκπληρώνει ένα στόχο αρκετών χρόνων, και ταυτόχρονα του δίνεται η ευκαιρία να ανέλθει επίπεδο τόσο αγωνιστικά όσο και οικονομικά.

Our team realizes the most magical and simultaneously historical journey in European competitions. Following the epic games against Nice, Christakis Christophorou’s team ensured its presence in a European competition group for the first time.

From now on, Apollon enjoys a dream of many years, while seizing the opportunity to reach a higher level of both at a competitive and a financial level.

We now face a huge challenge, since our being chosen by lot in the 10th group does not prohibit us from thinking about higher targets.

Τα δύο επόμενα παιχνίνδια με τη Λάτσιο είναι καθοριστικά, αφού ίσως δημιουργηθούν οι προϋποθέσεις για μια παρουσία γεμάτη φιλοδοξίες και όνειρα.

Η Κύπρος είναι η τρίτη μεγαλύτερη νήσος

της Μεσογείου μετά τη Σαρδηνία και τη Σικελία. Βρίσκεται στην βόρειο ανατολική άκρη της ανατολικής λεκάνης της Μεσογείου. Επίσημα η Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία ιδρύθηκε το 1960, στη βάση των Συμφωνιών Ζυρίχης-Λονδίνου που προέβλεπαν την ανεξαρτητοποίηση της Κύπρου από τη Βρετανία, αποικία της οποίας αποτελούσε πριν.

Στην ελληνιστική περίοδο άνθισαν οι τέχνες και έχουμε μαρτυρίες σε αμφορείς και πλάκες με γραφές. Άνθισε, επίσης, και η ελληνική θρησκεία προς τους 12 θεούς του Ολύμπου με ιερά σε όλο το νησί με μεγαλύτερο αυτό της Θεάς Αφροδίτης στην Πάφο πλησίον στον τόπο όπου γεννήθηκε (Πέτρα του Ρωμιού). Σ’ αυτή την εποχή ο φιλόσοφος Ζήνων ο Κιτιεύς, ίδρυσε την περίφημη σχολή των Στωικών στην Αθήνα.

Ακολουθεί η Ρωμαϊκή περίοδος η οποία διήρκεσε από το 58 π.Χ.-330 μ.Χ. Οι απόστολοι Παύλος και Βαρνάβας επισκέφθηκαν την Πάφο όπου κατόρθωσαν να εκχριστιανίσουν το Ρωμαίο ανθύπατο Σέργιο Παύλο και έτσι η Κύπρος έγινε το πρώτο νησί που απόκτησε Χριστιανό ηγέτη. Ακολουθεί η Βυζαντινή περίοδος. Με το διαχωρισμό της Ρωμαϊκής Αυτοκρατορίας, η Κύπρος έγινε επαρχία του ανατολικού μέρους δηλαδή του Βυζαντίου, με πρωτεύουσα την Κωνσταντινούπολη. Ακολουθούν η Φραγκοκρατία, η Τουρκοκρατία και η Αγγλοκρατία με τον απελευθερωτικό αγώνα του 1955-1959 και την κήρυξη της ανεξαρτησίας το 1960.

The pearl of the Mediterranean

Cyprus is the third largest island of the Mediterranean Sea after Sardinia and Sicily. It is located in the north eastern edge of the eastern Mediterranean basin. The Republic of Cyprus has been formally founded in 1960, based on the Zurich-London Agreements which in accordance with Cyprus gained independence from Britain, which it was a former colony of.

During the Hellenistic period, the arts flourished and testimonies were found in urns and scriptured plates. The Hellenistic religion, according to which the 12 Gods of Olympus were worshiped also flourished, with sanctuaries around the island, the biggest one dedicated to Goddess Aphrodite being in Paphos in proximity to her birthplace (Aphrodite’s Rock). Philosopher Zeno of Kition, founded, then, the famous Stoic school in Athens.

The Roman period came next from 58 BC to 330 AD. Apostles Paul and Barnabas visited Paphos, where they managed to Christianize the Roman proconsul Sergius Paul and so Cyprus became the first island to have a Christian leader.

The Byzantine period came next. Upon the Roman Empire being split, Cyprus became a province of the eastern part i.e Byzantium and Constantinople was the capital. The Frankish, the Ottoman and the British domination came next, leading to the 1955-1959 liberation struggle and the proclamation of Cyprus independence in 1960.

The island’s name “Cyprus” seemed to have prevailed for the Greeks since the years of Homer, having been transmitted to all adjacent people.

είναι ενδημικά. Στην πανίδα της Κύπρου περιλαμβάνονται 365 είδη πουλιών, από τα οποία τα 115 αναπαράγονται στη νήσο. Δύο είδη και πέντε υποείδη έχουν χαρακτηριστεί ως ενδημικά. Το πλέον όμως ενδιαφέρον της κυπριακής πανίδας είναι το ενδημικό είδος ζώου, το κυπριακό αγρινό, που ανήκει στην οικογένεια των προβάτων και είναι το μοναδικό είδος στον κόσμο.

Ένα οδοιπορικό το οποίο για την ώρα γιγαντώνει το σύλλογο αφήνοντας σε όλους ευχάριστες και μοναδικές αναμνήσεις. Αισθάνομαι ιδιαίτερα περήφανος για τα επιτεύγματα της ομάδας και ότι αποτελώ μέρος αυτής της προσπάθειας για γιγάντωση του ποδοσφαιρικού Απόλλωνα από την περασμένη αγωνιστική περίοδο.
