3 ΕΙΣΑΓΩΓΙΚΟ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΜΑ | INTRODUCTION

Αγαπητοί ομοϊδεάτες,

Σας χαιρετώ από την τελευταία φετινή ευρωπαϊκή μας έκδοση με αφορμή την εντός έδρας αναμέτρηση της ομάδας μας με την Έβερτον. Ένα ονειρικό οδοιπορικό φτάνει απόψε στο τέλος του, με την ομάδα να γράφει «χρυσές» σελίδες στην ευρωπαϊκή της ιστορία.

Τι να πρωτοθυμηθεί κανείς; Το άνετο πέρασμα από όμορφο Κισινάου; Το δύσκολο απόγευμα στο Αμπερτίν ή το ιστορικό βράδυ στο παγωμένο Χέρνιγκ της Δανίας; Ακολούθησαν οι όμορφες εκδρομές σε πόλεις όπως το Λίβερπουλ, η Πάρμα και η Λυών, για να αντιμετωπίσουμε τις Έβερτον, Αταλάντα και Λυών.

Μια εξαιρετική παρουσία για την ομάδα μας, η οποία στο δυσκολότερο όμιλο της διοργάνωσης εξασφάλισε τρεις βαθμούς με ισάριθμες ισοπαλίες, με την προοπτική να αυξηθεί αυτή η συγκομιδή στον αποψινό αγώνα.

Ένας Απόλλωνας ο οποίος συνεχώς ξεπερνά τις προσδοκίες. Κοίταξε στα μάτια αντίπαλους παγκόσμιου εκτοπίσματος με αποκορύφωμα την ιστορική ισοπαλία 2-2 στο Γκούτισον Πάρκ κόντρα στην Έβερτον.

Οι εμπειρίες τις οποίες απεκόμισε ολόκληρο το οικοδόμημα του Απόλλωνα, θα είναι πολύ ευεργετικές κι αυτό θα πιστοποιηθεί στο άμεσο μέλλον. Τόσο στο αγωνιστικό μέρος, όσο και στο οργανόγραμμα της ποδοσφαιρικής εταιρείας, οι εμπειρίες αυτές θα αποτελέσουν τον οδηγό για περισσότερο εκσυγχρονισμό και περισσότερη δουλειά στη συνέχεια.

Είμαστε περήφανοι για όλες τις μαγικές στιγμές τις οποίες βιώσαμε τους τελευταίους μήνες και ευχόμαστε ανάλογα ταξίδια και στην επόμενη αγωνιστική περίοδο 2018-2019, με την ομάδα μας να γράφει νέες χρυσές σελίδες στην ευρωπαϊκή και όχι μόνο ιστορία της…

Dear Apollon fans,

I greet you for our last European edition for this year on the occasion of another home confrontation of our team against Everton. A dreamy journey reaches to an end tonight while our team is writing ‘gold’ pages in its European history.

What is the most memorable moment? Our easy qualification at the beautiful Chisinau? The difficult afternoon in Aberdeen or the historical night in the cold Herning of Denmark? Then we went on to beautiful excursions to cities like Liverpool, Parma, and Lyon in order to confront the teams of Everton, Atalanta and Lyon.

Our team had an excellent performance and while in the most difficult group of the competition, managed to gain three points from three draws, with the expectation of increasing these points in tonight’s game.

Apollon is a team who is constantly overcoming its expectation. It confronted opponents of worldwide power and the highlight came with the historic draw 2-2 in Goodison Park against Everton.

The experiences that we gained, will be very beneficial and this will become apparent in the near future. Not only in the field, but also in the organization of our football club, these experiences will be the great motivation for further modernization and further work.

We are proud of all the magical moments we went through during the last months and we wish to have similar journeys in the next football season 2018-2019, with our team writing new gold pages in our European and domestic history…

«Δεν είμαστε αδιάφοροι»

Το αποψινό παιχνίδι μόνο αδιάφορο δεν είναι για τους ποδοσφαιριστές μου και εμένα, καθώς θα επιδιώξουμε να πετύχουμε την πρώτη νίκη μας στον όμιλο.

Σίγουρα η Έβερτον δεν διανύει την καλύτερη αγωνιστική της περίοδο, ωστόσο παραμένει μια ιστορική ομάδα για την Πρέμιερ Λίγκ, με ποδοσφαιριστές παγκοσμίου φήμης.

Η πορεία μας στον όμιλο μου αφήνει μια πικρία, καθώς η προσπάθεια που καταβάλαμε στα πέντε προηγούμενα παιχνίδια, δεν αντικατοπτρίζεται στη βαθμολογία βάση της προσπάθειας που κατέβαλαν οι ποδοσφαιριστές μου εντός αγωνιστικού χώρου.

Παρόλα αυτά οφείλω να τους συγχαρώ και δημόσια για την προσπάθεια αυτή, η οποία ξεκίνησε εδώ και μήνες. Από τον πρώτο αγώνα της προκριματικής φάσης μέχρι και σήμερα, οι ποδοσφαιριστές μου ξεπερνούν συνεχώς τους εαυτούς τους.

Από αύριο όμως στο μυαλό μας, θα βρίσκονται οι στόχοι εντός των τειχών. Εκεί όπου θα πρέπει να ξεπεράσουμε για πολλοστή φορά τους εαυτούς μας και να οδηγήσουμε την ομάδα μας εκεί που όλοι επιθυμούν. Στη δύσκολη αυτή διαδρομή, θέλουμε τον μεγάλο κόσμο του Απόλλωνα να είναι συνοδοιπόρος για να κερδίσουμε όλες τις μάχες μαζί και να ξεπεράσουμε όλα τα προβλήματα μαζί.

«We are not indifferent»

Tonight’s game is definitely not indifferent for my players and me, since we will pursue to achieve our first win in the group.

Although Everton is definitely not having its best football season, it is still a historical team from the Premier League with players of worldwide fame.

Our progress in the group leaves us with a bitter taste since our attempts during the last five games are not reflected in the group’s chart, based on the effort of my players in the field.

Nevertheless, I have to congratulate them publicly for their effort in all these months. Since the first game of qualifying rounds until today, my players are constantly overcoming themselves.

However, from tomorrow our focus will only be on our goals in the domestic championship. Once again, we have to overcome ourselves, and lead our team to our most desired goal. During this tough journey, we need the great fans of Apollon to accompany us in order to win all the battles and overcome all the problems together.

Τεράστια εμφάνιση και ισοπαλία με Λυών

Επιστροφή στους ομίλους του UEFA Europa League μετά από απουσία δύο ετών για την ομάδα μας, η οποία για 3η φορά την τελευταία πενταετία δίνει το παρών της στις κορυφαίες διοργανώσεις της UEFA.

H πρεμιέρα μας στον 5ο όμιλο πραγματοποιήθηκε την Πέμπτη 15 Σεπτεμβρίου στο ΓΣΠ παρουσία 6.000 φίλων της ομάδας, με αντίπαλο την πολυδιαφημισμένη ομάδα της Λυών, η οποία στοχεύει και στην κατάκτηση του τροπαίου, καθώς ο μεγάλος τελικός θα διεξαχθεί στο δικό της γήπεδο τον ερχόμενο Μάιο.

Huge performance and a draw with Lyon

The come back to the groups of UEFA Europa League after being absent for two years, happened for our team for the 3rd time in the last five years, with its presence in the top competitions of UEFA.

Our premiere in the 5th group took place on Thursday, the 15th of September in GSP with the presence of 6.000 fans, against the popular team of Lyon that aims at winning the trophy since the final will take place in its home ground this upcoming May.

Το 1992 η ομάδα μας είχε επισκεφθεί την πόλη των Beatles για να αντιμετωπίσει την ομάδα της Λίβερπουλ για το θεσμό του κυπέλλου κυπελλούχων. Μετά από 25 χρόνια ο Απόλλωνας επέστρεψε στην Αγγλία και στην ιστορική πόλη του Λίβερπουλ, για να αντιμετωπίσει αυτή τη φορά την ομάδα της Έβερτον για την 2η αγωνιστική του 5ου ομίλου του UEFA Europa League 2017-2018.

Η ομάδα μας πραγματοποιώντας μία από τις καλύτερες εμφανίσεις στην ευρωπαϊκή της ιστορίας, απέσπασε το βαθμό της ισοπαλίας απέναντι στους “μπλε” του μεγάλου λιμανιού. Οι ποδοσφαιριστές του Σωφρόνη Αυγουστή παρουσίασαν εξαιρετικό αγωνιστικό πρόσωπο στο «Γκούτισον Παρκ» και το 2-2 επιβράβευσε την προσπάθεια τους.

Στο 12’ ο Σαρδινέρο άνοιξε το σκορ για την ομάδα μας και στο 21΄ο Ρούνεϊ ισοφάρισε σε 1-1 για τους γηπεδούχους. Στο 66΄ Βλάσιτς έβαλε μπροστά (2-1) την Έβερτον αλλά ο Απόλλωνας πέτυχε το 2-2 με τον Γιούστε δύο λεπτά πριν από το φινάλε, ενώ στο 86ο λεπτό είχε αποβληθεί ο Ρομπέρζ και η ομάδα μας αγωνιζόταν με δέκα ποδοσφαιριστές.

The French opened the score with a penalty of Depay at the 53’ and Apollon equalised (1-1) at the 90th minute with Sardinero. Our team had an excellent performance throughout the game and fairly got the point of draw against a huge opponent, making a good start in the group.

Our team returned to Liverpool to make history

In 1992, our team had visited the city of Beatles to confront the team of Liverpool for the Cup winners competition. 25 years later Apollon returned to England and the historic city of Liverpool to confront the team of Everton, this time, for the 2nd game of the 5th group of the UEFA Europa League 2017-2018.

Our team, by giving one of its best performances in its European history, managed to gain a draw against the ‘’blue’’ team of Liverpool. The players of Sofronis Avgousti presented an excellent football profile at Goodison Park and the final 2-2 rewarded their effort.

At the 12’, Sardinero opened the score for our team and at the 21st, Rooney equalised the score 1-1 for the home team. At the 66’ minute Vlasic gave his team the lead (2-1) but Apollon made the 2-2 with Yuste two minutes before the end, while at the 86’ Roberge was expelled and our team had to compete with 10 players.

Πρώτη ήττα στην… όμορφη Τοσκάνη

Η 3η αγωνιστική του 5ου ομίλου έδωσε την ευκαιρία σε 1.000 περίπου φίλους της ομάδας μας να ταξιδέψουν σε διάφορες πόλεις της Τοσκάνης και να απολαύσουν της πλούσιες ομορφιές της γύρω περιοχής. Νέο ευρωπαϊκό ραντεβού για τον Απόλλωνα την 19η Οκτωβρίου κόντρα στην Αταλάντα στο Ρέτζιο Εμίλιο και στο στάδιο «Μapei».

The 3rd game of the 5th group gave the opportunity to about 1.000 fans of our team to travel to several cities of Tuscany and enjoy the plentiful beautiful attractions around the area. A new European appointment for Apollon on the 19th of October against Atalanta at Reggio Emilia and the stadium Mapei.

υποψιασμένοι από τις εμφανίσεις και τα αποτελέσματα της ομάδας μας στις πρώτες δυο αγωνιστικές, παρουσιάστηκαν σοβαροί και πολύ απαιτητικοί φτάνοντας σε μια δίκαιη και σπουδαία γι’ αυτούς νίκη με 3-1.

Η Αταλάντα επέβαλε το ρυθμό της από την αρχή του αγώνα και προηγήθηκε στο 12’ με τον Ίλιτσιτς. Στο 59ο λεπτό η ομάδα μας ισοφάρισε με κεφαλιά του Σκέμπρι μετά από σέντρα του Γιάκολις, δυστυχώς όμως η αντίδραση από τους Ιταλούς ήταν άμεση. Πρώτα με τον Πετάνια στο 64’ και δύο λεπτά αργότερα με τον Φρούλερ, διαμόρφωσαν το 3-1 που ήταν και το τελικό αποτέλεσμα.

The Italians were prepared given our previous performances and results from the first two games and they were very serious and demanding thus achieving a fair and special win, for them, with 3-1.

Atalanta established its rhythm from the beginning of the game and took the lead at the 12’ with Ilicic. At the 59th minute, our team equalised with a header from Schembri after a cross from Jacolis but unfortunately the reaction from the Italians was instant. Firstly with Petagna at the 64’ and two minutes later with Freuler, making the 3-1, which was the final score of the game.

Το 2ο εντός έδρας αγώνα της έδωσε η ομάδα μας στις 2 Νοεμβρίου στο ΓΣΠ για την 4η αγωνιστική του 5ου ομίλου της διοργάνωσης κόντρα στην φιλόδοξη φέτος Αταλάντα, την οποία συνόδευσαν στη Λευκωσία περισσότεροι από 1.000 οπαδοί της.

Σε ένα αγώνα για γερά νευρά, η ομάδα μας με τέρμα του Ζελάγια στο 3ο λεπτό των καθυστερήσεων, πήρε τον βαθμό της ισοπαλίας κόντρα στους υπερόπτες Ιταλούς, καταφέρνοντας να μείνει αήττητος σε άλλο ένα αγώνα των ομίλων του Europa League και να φτάνει τους 3 βαθμούς στον όμιλο από ισάριθμες ισοπαλίες.

Η «θεά» του ιταλικού ποδοσφαίρου προηγήθηκε με τον Josip Ilicic με εύστοχη εκτέλεση πέναλτι στο 35ο λεπτό.

Heroic draw

Our team played the 2nd home game on the 2nd of November, in GSP for the 4th game of the fifth group of the competition against the ambitious Atalanta that was accompanied by 1000 fans in Nicosia.

In a nerve breaking game, our team with the goal of Zelaya in the 3rd minute of the stoppage time, ended the game with a draw against the arrogant Italians, managing to remain undefeated in another game of the groups of Europa League and reaching the 3 points in the group with 3 draws.

The Italian team took the lead with a penalty by Josip Ilicic in the 35th minute.

Άδικο το τελικό σκορ

Η 5η αγωνιστική της διοργάνωσης βρήκε την ομάδα μας να ταξιδεύει στη Γαλλία και στην πρωτεύουσα της γαστρονομίας για να αντιμετωπίσει την τοπική Λυών.

Το τελικό 4-0 δεν αντικατοπτρίζει την εικόνα του αγώνα, καθώς η ομάδα μας πραγματοποίησε την καλύτερη φετινή ευρωπαϊκή της εμφάνιση, δημιουργώντας αρκετές φάσεις για να σκοράρει, με αποκορύφωμα την ευκαιρία του Μάγκλιτσα στο 14’.

Από την άλλη, οι Γάλλοι ήταν πολύ αποτελεσματικοί και κατάφεραν να σκοράρουν δύο φορές σε κάθε ημίχρονο.

Στο 29’ ο Ντιακαπί σκόραρε κάνοντας το 1-0 και τρία λεπτά αργότερα ο Φεκίρ διπλασίασε τα τέρματα της Λυών μετά από μία υποδειγματική αντεπίθεση. Τα άλλα δύο γκολ επιτεύχθηκαν στο 67’ με τον Ντίαζ και τον Μαολιντά στο 90’.

The final score was unfair

The 5th game of the competition found our team travelling to France and the capital of gastronomy to confront the local team Lyon.

The final 4-0 does not reflect the whole game as this was the best performance of our team in this year’s competition, because it created many chances to score with the best one being Maglica’s chance in 14’.

On the other hand, the French were very efficient and managed to score two times in each half.

In the 29th minute Diakhaby scored making the 1-0 and three minutes later Fekir doubled the score of Lyon after an exceptional counter attack. The other two goals were achieved in the 67’ with Diaz and in the 90’ with Maolida.

Η τεράστια προσπάθεια η οποία κατέβαλε η

ομάδα μας στις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις φτάνει απόψε στο τέλος της. Μια πορεία γεμάτη άγχος, χάρες και συγκινήσεις. Η τρίτη παρουσία της ομάδας μας την τελευταία πενταετία, την κατατάσσουν ως μια από τις πιο επιτυχημένες ομάδες στην Κύπρο όσο αφορά τις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις.

Επίτευγμα ασύλληπτο για το σύλλογο αλλά και για τα κυπριακά δεδομένα. Αναλαμβάνοντας την ομάδα πριν από περίπου πεντέμισι χρόνια, δεν μπορούσα να φανταστώ αυτή την ιστορική πορεία την οποία διαγράφει η ομάδα μας. Ένας Απόλλωνας, ο οποίος χαρίζει ιστορικές στιγμές στους οπαδούς του και όχι μόνο.

Το μεγαλύτερο όμως επίτευγμα, είναι η καθολική αναγνώριση από το φίλαθλο κοινό για την αξία και το ποδόσφαιρο το οποίο παρουσιάζει η ομάδα μας. Αισθάνομαι ιδιαίτερα υπερήφανος για αυτό τον Απόλλωνα, ο οποίος συνεχώς ξεπερνά τον εαυτό του και προσδιορίζει αδιάκοπα νέους στόχους. Μια ομάδα η οποία πληροί όλες τις προδιαγραφές ενός σύγχρονου ευρωπαϊκού κλαμπ.

Η προσπάθεια όμως δεν σταματά εδώ και τα δύσκολα για όλους στην ομάδα, μόλις τώρα αρχίζουν. Μπροστά μας έχουμε νέους στόχους, για τους οποίους θα παλέψουμε για να τους εκπληρώσουμε.

Συγχαίρω εκ νέους τους συντελεστές και τους πρωταγωνιστές αυτού του ιστορικού ευρωπαϊκού οδοιπορικού και εύχομαι στο άμεσο μέλλον να έχουμε την ευκαιρία να πανηγυρίσουμε νέες επιτυχίες του Απόλλωνα.

The last attempt of our team in European competitions is reaching to its end tonight. A journey full of anxiety, joy and emotions. The third presence of our team in the last five years, ranks our team as one of the most successful teams in Cyprus concerning the European competitions.

An inconceivable achievement for the club and Cyprus’ standards. When I took over the team five years ago, I could not imagine the historical progress that our team would make. Our team, Apollon is making history for his fans and for all the football fans in Cyprus.

The greatest achievement though, is the recognition by everyone about the value and the quality of football our team presents. I feel especially proud of this team which is constantly overcoming itself and is setting new goals all the time. A team which meets all the qualifications of a contemporary European club.

Our efforts do not stop here though, since the difficult part for everyone in the team has just started. We have new goals ahead of us and we will fight to achieve them.

Once again, I congratulate all the members of our team for this historical European journey and I wish that in the near future, we can have the opportunity to celebrate the new achievements of Apollon.

Η ‘Εβερτον ιδρύθηκε το 1878 με το όνο

The history of the team

Everton began life in 1878 as St. Domingo, playing their first match in the south-east corner of Liverpool’s Stanley Park. The Club’s first game under the name Everton Football Club took place at the same venue against St Peter’s on 20 December 1879 and ended in a 6-0 victory. As their reputation developed, Everton moved first to Priory Road and then to the now famous Anfield Road.

Everton won their first league title in 1890/91. Later, Everton were installed at Goodison Park. It was opened on 24 August 1892, with 12.000 spectators inside. During the 1890s, Everton lost two FA Cup finals, and it wasn’t until 1906 that glory in the competition was finally achieved with a 1-0 win over Newcastle United. In 1914/15, Everton clinched the league title again, and left the side as champions for four years.

The next historical chapter came midway through the following decade, with the signing of William Ralph Dixie Dean. In Dean’s first full season, 1925/26, he scored 32 league goals in 38 games. In his next, he hit 21 in 27. Then, in 1927/28, he created history. Two seasons later they finished bottom of the table and were relegated for the first time.

The season 1931/32, saw the Club regain the First Division crown, with Dean scoring another 45 league goals. That championship title was followed by the Club’s first Wembley FA Cup success in 1933. Dean had departed by the time the league crown was regained in 1938/39.

At the end of his first full season, Catterick’s side finished fourth and boasted the First Division’s best defensive record. The following year, the team won the title 1961. One highlight of the 1970s era was the emergence of Bob Latchford as the latest centre-forward to be revered by Evertonians. A 1974 arrival from Birmingham City, his most prolific season saw him plunder 30 league goals during 1977/78.

In 1981, the return of Howard Kendall -this time as manager- rising from the depths of despair to heights they had never dared dream about. The 1984/85 campaign was then a season like none before - and none since. For the 1997/98 season, Kendall returned for a third spell in charge - but it almost ended in disaster. Over an 11-year spell, the Scot guided Everton to nine top-eight finishes, memorably securing the Club’s first UEFA Champions League qualification in 2005.

A Club’s first non-British manager, Roberto Martinez in his first campaign in charge, the Toffees amassed 72 Premier League points - and also recorded a best-ever tally of 21 Premier League wins. Despite that positive start, Everton finished 11th in each of the next two seasons.

In his first season in charge of Everton, Koeman steered Everton to seventh position in the Premier League table and the Club qualified for the UEFA Europa League 2017/18.

1880. In 1889, it became a county borough independent of Lancashire. Its growth as a major port was paralleled by the expansion of the city throughout the Industrial Revolution. Along with handling general cargo, freight, raw materials such as coal and cotton, the city merchants were involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In the 19th century, it was a major port of departure for Irish and English emigrants to the United States. Liverpool’s status as a port city has attracted a diverse population, which, historically, was drawn from a wide range of peoples, cultures, and religions, particularly from Ireland and Wales. Cyprus is located in the northeast of the Mediterranean, at the intersection point of Europe, Asia and Africa. From the dawn of history, Cyprus consists one of the most interesting places of the area, with a rich cultural history.

Ancient Greeks and the period of the Byzantine Empire have left a strong heritage, that nowadays, any visitor can visit and admire.

Cyprus is bordering with Greece, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Egypt. The north part of Cyprus has been occupied by Turkey since 1974. In 1983, after violating the Charter of the United Nations, Turkey proceeded into declaring the so-called «Turkish Democratic Republic of Northern Cyprus» that until today it is only recognised by Turkey.

Cyprus is gifted with golden beaches, primeval forests and other wonderful natural landscapes. The environment of the island is now among the healthiest of the world, free of the pollution and other side-effects of the industrial counties. As far as criminality is concerned, it is almost non-existent.

Cyprus enjoys a wonderful Mediterranean climate. Apart from the rainfall period between November and March, Cyprus is constantly sunny. The average temperatures range from 8°C (42°F), during the coldest month, December, to 35°C (96°F) during the warmest month, which is August. However, weather is not the only attractive characteristic of the island. The people of Cyprus are equally famous, for the warm and friendly welcoming they provide to their visitors.

In May, 2004, Cyprus became officially a member of the European Union and in 2008 entered the Eurozone, thus connecting Europe and Middle East and the rest of the world. Having been recognized as the ultimate business and financial centre in the wider area, the island has competitive advantages in sectors such as tourism, provision of consulting services, banking and insuring services, investments and construction business, shipping and telecommunications.

Η Λεμεσός είναι η δεύτερη πιο μεγάλη πόλη της Κύπρου με πληθυσμό που φτάνει περίπου τις 180.000. Είναι μία από τις έξι επαρχίες και καλύπτει μία

περιοχή 34.87 τετραγωνικά χιλιόμετρα. Βρίσκεται στη νότια ακτή του νησιού και επεκτείνεται δυτικά προς την επαρχία

Πάφου, συνορεύοντας με την επαρχία της Λάρνακας στα ανατολικά και στα βόρεια με την Λευκωσία.

Εκτός από το γεγονός ότι η Λεμεσός είναι αναμφισβήτητα ένας δημοφιλής τουριστικός προορισμός, είναι επίσης ένα διοικητικό και εμπορικό κέντρο, λιμάνι, θέρετρο, το κέντρο της βιομηχανίας κρασιού και στεγάζει πολλούς αρχαιολογικούς χώρους.

Το κέντρο της πόλης που είναι όλο ζωντάνια, προσφέρει ένα ταξίδι στο χρόνο όπου υπάρχει το Πανεπιστήμιο που σφύζει από νεαρούς φοιτητές που στοχεύουν σε ένα καλύτερο μέλλον είναι απλά λίγους δρόμους μακριά από την παλιά αγορά και το αρχαίο κάστρο που μας συνδέει με το παρελθόν. Η συνύπαρξη παλιού και νέου συνεχίζεται με ένα όμορφο τρόπο, καθώς δίπλα από τη θάλασσα, ο οποιοσδήποτε μπορεί να αναγνωρίσει την κοσμοπολίτικη μεριά της Λεμεσού με όλα τα σύγχρονα οικοδομήματα επιχειρήσεων και μοντέρνες πολυκατοικίες ενώ λίγα χιλιόμετρα παραπέρα μπορεί να βρει γοητευτικές περιοχές

στα πλακόστρωτα δρομάκια, γραφικά κτίρια με βεράντες που προεξέχουν και δίνουν τη δυνατότητα σε πολλά μικρά καταστήματα, εστιατόρια και καφέ να εκμεταλλευτούν τη σκιά τους.

Η πόλη της Λεμεσού έχει μία πλούσια ιστορία η οποία πάει πίσω στο 2ο αιώνα π.Χ. Η πόλη βρίσκεται μεταξύ της αρχαίας πόλης της Αμαθούντας στην ανατολή και

του Κουρίου στα δυτικά. Η Λεμεσός ήταν κατοικημένη από τα αρχαία χρόνια και τα μνήματα που ανακαλύφθηκαν εκεί, χρονολογούνται γύρω στο 2ο αιώνα π.Χ. ενώ άλλα χρονολογούνται γύρω στο 8ο και 4ο αιώνα π.Χ. Λίγα αρχαιολογικά ευρήματα που έχουν βρεθεί αποδεικνύουν ότι υπήρχε ένας μικρός οικισμός εκεί, ο οποίος δεν κατάφερε να αναπτυχθεί και να ευημερήσει.

Το 10ο αιώνα, η πόλη ήταν γνωστή ως Νέμεσσος και ο Βυζαντινός Αυτοκράτορας, Κωνσταντίνος Πορφυρογέννητος αναφέρεται στην πόλη με αυτό το όνομα. Η ιστορία της πόλης είναι κυρίως γνωστή για τις γεγονότα του 1191 μ. Χ, τα οποία είναι σημάδι του τέλους της Βυζαντινής Κυριαρχίας στην Κύπρο. Ο βασιλιάς της Αγγλίας, Ριχάρδος ο Λεοντόκαρδος, πρόβλεψε την στρατηγική σημασία της Κύπρου ως βάση εφοδιασμού των δυνάμεων που πήραν μέρος στην Τρίτη σταυροφορία και κατέκτησε το νησί. Ο Ριχάρδος γιόρτασε το γάμο με την Βερεγγάρια στη Λεμεσό, όπου αυτή ανακηρύχθηκε Βασίλισσα της Αγγλίας. Αυτά τα γεγονότα σημάδεψαν το τέλος της Βυζαντινής κυριαρχίας στην Κύπρο. Τότε, η Λεμεσός παραδόθηκε στην Φράγκικη Αυτοκρατορία των Λουζινιανών βασιλιάδων του μεσαιωνικού Κυπριακού βασιλείου. Για περίπου τρεις αιώνες (1192-1489), η Λεμεσός πέρασε μία αξιοσημείωτη περίοδο ευημερίας. Το 1489 μ. Χ., η Βασίλισσα της Κύπρου, Αικατερίνη Κορνάρο παρέδωσε την Κύπρο στην πόλη της Βενετίας. Αυτή η κυριαρχία κράτησε μέχρι την Τούρκικη κατοχή το 1570 π.Χ. Τότε, οι Βρετανοί κατέκτησαν την Κύπρο το 1878, ενώ το 1960 ακολούθησαν μεγάλες αλλαγές, μετά από την απελευθέρωση της Κύπρου, η οποίες συνείσφεραν στην πολιτισμική και καλλιτεχνική ζωή της πόλης. Σχολεία, θέατρα, γκαλερί τέχνης, αίθουσες συναυλιών και ποδοσφαιρικές ομάδες υποδομήθηκαν και όλα αυτά έπαιξαν σημαντικό ρόλο στην πολιτισμική ζωή της Λεμεσού. Η πόλη της Λεμεσού αναπτύχθηκε με ραγδαίους ρυθμούς μετά την Τούρκικη εισβολή το 1974. Πολυτελή ξενοδοχεία, εστιατόρια και αμέτρητα μέρη ψυχαγωγίας χτίστηκαν και έτσι σύντομα η πόλη έγινε ένα σημαντικό τουριστικό κέντρο.

Beautiful and attractive

Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus with a population of approximately 180,000. It is one of six districts and covers an area of 34.87 square kilometers. Located on the southern coast, Limassol stretches around westward to the Paphos district, bordering with the district of Larnaca on the east and with Nicosia on the north.

In addition to the recognized popularity as a tourism destination, Limassol is also an administrative and business centre, a port, a resort, the centre of the wine industry and home to many archeological sites.

The vivacious city centre, seems to offer a journey through time where the University with its bustling young students aiming for a brighter future is just a few streets away from the old market and ancient castle which link us to the past. Gracefully blending old with new continues, as across the seafront one can appreciate the cosmopolitan side of Limassol with its contemporary business structures and modern apartment buildings while only several kilometers away one can find charming areas with cobblestone streets, quaint buildings with overhanging terraces under which there are a profusion of small shops, restaurants and cafes.

The city of Limassol has a rich history that goes back to around the 2nd century B.C. The city is situated between the ancient cities of Amathous to the east and Kourion to the west. Limassol was inhabited since the very ancient years and tombs discovered there date back to around

the 2nd century B.C., while others date back to around the 8th and 4th centuries B.C. The few ancient finds that were discovered show that a small settlement existed there which did not manage to develop and flourish.

The city, in the 10th century, was known as Nemesos and the Byzantine emperor, Constantine Porphyrogenitus, refers to this city with this name. The history of the city is mainly known for its events in 1191 A.D., which marked the end of the Byzantine Rule in Cyprus. The king of England, Richard the Lionheart, foresaw the strategic importance of Cyprus as a base for supplying the forces taking part in the Third Crusade and conquered the island. Richard celebrated his marriage to Berengaria in Limassol where the latter was crowned Queen of England. And that is how the Byzantine Rule in Cyprus came to an end.

Limassol was then surrendered to the Frankish Empire of the Lusignan Kings of the medieval Cypriot kingdom. For about three centuries (1192-1489), Limassol experienced a remarkable period of prosperity. In 1489 A.D., the Queen of Cyprus, Ekaterini Cornaro, surrendered Cyprus to the city of Venice. This lasted until the Turkish Occupation took place in 1570 A.D. Then the British conquered Cyprus in 1878, while in 1960 significant changes followed the liberation of Cyprus, which contributed to the cultural and artistic life of the city. Schools, theatres, art galleries, music halls and football clubs were formed and played a significant role in the cultural life of Limassol.

The city of Limassol was developed much after the Turkish invasion of 1974. Luxurious hotels, restaurants and numerous entertainment clubs were built and thus the city soon became a significant touristic centre.

«Ευχαριστούμε τους οπαδούς μας»

Ο αποψινός αγώνας είναι το επιστέγασμα της σκληρής προσπάθειας που καταβάλαμε όλοι στο ποδοσφαιρικό τμήμα από τα τέλη του περασμένου Ιουνίου στην Αυστρία. Στην σκέψη μας υπήρχε ο στόχος της πρόκρισης στους ομίλους της διοργάνωσης, όμως γνωρίζαμε ταυτόχρονα και τις αντικειμενικές δυσκολίες, τις οποίες θα αντιμετωπίζαμε για να εκπληρώσουμε το μεγάλο αυτό στόχο.

Είναι αλήθεια ότι μετά την ιστορική πρόκριση επί της Αμπερτίν όλα είχαν πάρει το δρόμο τους. Εκεί ήταν που όλοι στα αποδυτήρια το πιστέψαμε και είπαμε φέτος είναι η ευκαιρία μας. Ταξιδέψαμε στη Δανία και ήμασταν σίγουροι ότι θα προκριθούμε. Το συναίσθημα ήταν τόσο δυνατό το οποίο επιβεβαιώθηκε. Το τελικό σφύριγμα του αγώνα στη Δανία, δημιούργησε απίστευτα συναισθήματα για όλους στην ομάδα. Ήταν η ώρα της ιστορίας, ήταν η ώρα της εξιλέωσης για τους αδίκους αποκλεισμούς των δυο προηγούμενων χρόνων κόντρα σε Καμπάλα και Γκρασχόπερς.

Για την πορεία μας στον όμιλο μιλούν τα αποτελέσματα. Εξαιρετικές εμφανίσεις με τη βαθμολογική μας συγκομιδή να μας αδικεί. Πλέον απόψε αποχαιρετούμε μια εκπληκτική διοργάνωση, ανανεώνοντας το ραντεβού μας για τη νέα αγωνιστική περίοδο. Θέλω να ευχαριστήσω όλους τους οπαδούς μας οποίοι γέμισαν σε όλα τα προκριματικά παιχνίδια την ΑΕΚ ΑΡΕΝΑ, όπως κι αυτούς που ήρθαν στα παιχνίδια στο ΓΣΠ αλλά και στο εξωτερικό. Μαζί θα συνεχίσουμε για να εκπληρώσουμε τους μεγάλους μας στόχους στις εγχώριες διοργανώσεις.

«We thank our fans»

Tonight’s game is the conclusion of the hard work that everyone in the football department has been doing since late June, in Austria. We all had in mind the goal for qualification in the group stage of the competition. However, at the same time, we were all aware of the objective difficulties that we would confront in order to accomplish this difficult goal.

It is true that after the historical qualification over Aberdeen, everything was in order. Then, in the dressing room we all realised that this year we had our chance in the competition. We travelled to Denmark and we were sure that we would qualify. Our feeling was so strong that helped us achieve our goal. The final whistle of the game in Denmark, created amazing feelings for everyone in the team. It was that moment in history that we had our redemption for the unfair eliminations of the two last years, against Gabala and Grasshoppers.

The results speak for themselves for our performance in the group games. Excellent performances and the collection of points were a major proof. Tonight, is the conclusion of an amazing competition and we renew our appointment for the new football season.

I want to thank all our fans that filled AEK ARENA in all the qualification games, those who came to the games in GSP and also the ones that followed us abroad as well. Together, we will continue, in order to achieve our greatest goals in the domestic competitions.
