Η ομάδα μας δίνει απόψε τον 92ο αγώνα της στις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις, απέναντι στην κάτοχο του Γερμανικού κυπέλλου και πρωτοπόρο του 8ου ομίλου της διοργάνωσης Άιντραχτ Φρανκφούρτης. Αριθμός τεράστιος αν υπολογίσει κάποιος πως μέχρι και πριν από έξι περίπου

χρόνια, αυτός ο αριθμός ήταν μικρότερος από το 50%. Αυτό αποδεικνύει

το πόσο έχει μεγαλώσει αυτή η ομάδα και πως ο τρόπος λειτουργίας της

είναι κάτι περισσότερο από αποδοτικός.

Πλέον ο στόχος είναι η ομάδα μας να δώσει και την αγωνιστική περίοδο 2019-2020 το παρών στις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις για 7η διαδοχική περίοδο, κάτι το οποίο θα αποτελεί και σημείο αναφοράς στην πλούσια

Σαφέστατα όμως, ευχή όλων στην ομάδα μας δεν είναι μόνο οι ευρωπαϊκές παρουσίες και οι κατακτήσεις τίτλων, αλλά το συντομότερο δυνατόν, να αγωνιστεί για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία της, στη δική της ποδοσφαιρική έδρα, μπροστά στους χιλιάδες οπαδούς της.

Εκεί όπου τα δεδομένα σαφώς θα διαφοροποιηθούν υπέρ της δικής μας ομάδας και εκεί όπου θα έχει την ευκαιρία να γράψει καινούργιες «χρυσές» σελίδες στην ένδοξη ιστορία της.

Our team is playing tonight for the 92nd time in European competitions against the holder of the German Cup and champion of the 8th Group of the competition, Eintracht Frankfurt. The number of games is huge indeed, if one estimates that up to about six years ago, same number was less than the half of it. This demonstrates the extent to which the team has grown and how its operation has become more efficient.

Now our goal is to be present at the 2019-2020 season of European competitions for the seventh consecutive period, fact that will be a reference point in the club’s rich history.

Clearly, however, everyone’s wish in our team is not only European presences and title awards but also to compete for the first time in history, in its own football headquarters, in front of its thousands of fans, as soon as possible.

That will be the moment where data will clearly differentiate in favor of our own team and the moment to give the opportunity to write new “golden” pages in its glorious history.

Οι Πέμπτες έχουν αποκτήσει πλέον για όλους στον Απόλλωνα μία διαφορετική χροιά και μια απρόσμενη αναμονή για την κάθε ευρωπαϊκή μας αναμέτρηση. Παιχνίδια από τα οποία -όπως έχω αναφέρει πάρα πολλές φορές σε διάφορες τοποθετήσεις μου- είναι για όλους στην ομάδα ένα ανοικτό ποδοσφαιρικό πανεπιστήμιο.

Μέσα σε ενενήντα λεπτά έχεις την ευκαιρία να διδαχτείς ως ομάδα και ως σύλλογος, όσα ίσως άλλες ομάδες

να μην διδαχτούν σε 50 χρόνια ιστορίας. Είναι οι ρυθμοί και οι εντάσεις, είναι η λάμψη της διοργάνωσης και η διαφορά επιπέδου από τους αντιπάλους τόσο σε αγωνιστικό και οργανωτικό επίπεδο, που σε κάνει να ξεπερνάς τον εαυτό σου.

Οι ποδοσφαιριστές μου κι εγώ, αναμένουμε με ιδιαίτερη αγωνία την αποψινή αναμέτρηση, κόντρα στην κάτοχο του Γερμανικού κυπέλλου. Απαλλαγμένοι από άγχος και πίεση, θα προσπαθήσουμε να απολαύσουμε το μεγάλο αυτό ενενηντάλεπτο, προσδοκώντας σ΄ ένα πολύ καλό αποτέλεσμα για την ομάδα μας. Σας ευχαριστώ όλους την αποψινή σας παρουσία, η οποία μας γεμίζει με δύναμη και πίστη για να συνεχίσουμε την πορεία μας προς την εκπλήρωση των στόχων μας.

Thursdays have now a different meaning for all of us in Apollon FC and we unexpectedly anticipate for our European confrontation. Such games, as I have already declared many times, are for everyone in the team an open football university.

Within ninety minutes, we have the opportunity to be taught as a team and as a club, all these that cannot be taught in 50 years of history. The pace and tensions, the glamour of the organization and the high performance level of opponents, both at a racing and organizational level, make us overcome ourselves.

My football players and I, are looking forward to this match tonight, against the German Cup holder. Free from stress and pressure, we will try to enjoy this great ninety-minute game, aiming towards a very good result for our team.

I thank you all for your presence tonight, which fills us with strength and faith to continue our journey towards meeting our goals.

Στις 8 Μαρτίου 1899, ο ποδοσφαιρικός σύλλογος Φράνκφουρτερ ΦΚ Βικτόρια, προϊόν προηγούμενης διάσπασης του παλαιότερου ποδοσφαιρικού συλλόγου της Φρανκφούρτης Γερμανίας 1894, ιδρύθηκε ως ο προκάτοχος της σημερινής Άιντραχτ Φρανκφούρτης. Η λέξη Άιντραχτ που σημαίνει ομόνοια, αποτελεί μέρος του επίσημου ονόματος του ποδοσφαιρικού συλλόγου για περίπου 100 χρόνια. Ακόμη και πριν την επίσημη μετονομασία της, η Άιντραχτ Φρανκφούρτης αγωνίστηκε εναντίον πολλών διεθνών συλλόγων, εκ των οποίων ο πρώτος αγώνας έγινε το 1907. Έχοντας την έδρα της στην καρδιά της Ευρώπης, οι παίκτες της ταξίδεψαν σχεδόν σε όλες τις ηπείρους της γης, κερδίζοντας το ψευδώνυμο «Οι περιηγητές του Ρίντερβαλντ».

The history of the team

On March 8th, 1899, Frankfurt football club Victoria 1899, the product of an earlier split in the oldest Frankfurt football club Germania 1894, was founded as the predecessor to today’s Eintracht Frankfurt. “Eintracht” has been part of the club’s official name for close to 100 years. Even before the official renaming, Eintracht Frankfurt played matches against many international clubs, the first of which took place in 1907. Based in the heart of Europe, the club’s players have travelled to almost every continent on earth, earning the nickname “The Globetrotters of the Riederwald”.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s adventures abroad did not begin with the training camps in Abu Dhabi and the USA, but have in fact been going on for much longer; over the club’s history, which now stretches back 119 years, Eintracht’s players have toured every corner of the globe.

The club’s greatest success to date followed in 1959, as Eintracht defeated Kickers Offenbach in the final of the German Championship and collected the national title for the first time, with Alfred Pfaff captaining the title-winning team. Excellent performances in the European Cup during the 1959/60 season ensured that Ein¬tracht featured ever more frequently in newspaper headlines, and the final against Real Madrid on 18 May 1960 in Glasgow remains one of football’s most memorable matches. The starting eleven from that day still enjoy immense popularity despite losing 7-3, and were invited to Madrid for the 50th anniversary of the game shortly before the 2010 Champions League final. Eintracht earned a shock 3-2 win away at reigning European champions Benfica on October 4th, 1961. The team then won 3-2 just two weeks later, away at Glasgow Rangers in a friendly match played at Hampden Park in Glasgow in front of over 100.000 spectators. In doing so, they set another record for the highest attendance at a friendly match of all time. The club’s greatest international triumph dates back some years, with Eintracht winning the 1980 UEFA Cup in an allGerman final against Borussia Mönchengladbach. But Eintracht would once again leave their mark on this competition and its successor in the years to follow, for example with a 9-0 victory over Widzew Lodz in 1992 or during the unforgettable European season of 2013/14 when, among other things, the team were accompanied by 12.000 travelling fans for their trip to Bordeaux. After clinching the UEFA Cup, Frankfurt went on to increase their domestic trophy collection.

Eintracht have won the DFB Cup five times, the first two coming back to back in 1974 and 1975 with the team being led by 1974 World Cup winners and club legends Bernd Hölzenbein and Jürgen Grabowski. Titles three and four came in 1981 and 1988. Part of the team for all four cup triumphs was Charly Körbel, who, with 602 Bundesliga matches, all for Eintracht Frankfurt, is the record appearance-maker in Germany’s top flight. In 2018 dreams turned to reality, as Frankfurt triumphed over hot favourites and German champions Bayern Munich to win their fifth cup. The team was welcomed back to Frankfurt by nearly 100.000 fans, showing the deep connection between Eintracht Frankfurt and the city.

Eintracht Frankfurt were one of the founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963 and managed to finish in the top half of the table for 19 of the first 20 years of the Bundesliga. After a brief dry spell during the 1980s, during which relegation was narrowly avoided through the play-offs, Frankfurt began a long run of top five finishes in the Bundesliga at the start of the 1990s, a defining period in the club’s history. Frankfurt were ever-present in the UEFA Cup, under the guidance of legendary manager Dragoslav Stepanovic and led from midfield by the man with the deadly final ball, Uwe Bein, who became the third Eintracht player after Hölzenbein und Grabowski to win the World Cup in 1990. 2018 marks Eintracht Frankfurt’s 50th Bundesliga season.

ΠΑΙΚΤΗΣ ΚΛΕΙΔΙ

Ήδη το όνομά του βρίσκεται στη μεταγραφική λίστα πολλών ομάδων στην Ευρώπη και αν συνεχίσει με αυτούς τους ρυθμούς, το πιθανότερο είναι να φύγει από τους αετούς το επόμενο καλοκαίρι.

Key player

He is fast, penetrating, with excellent dribbles and essential player. The football player who stands out from the Eintracht roster is Ante Rebic. The 25-year-old Croatian, who gave his present to the World Cup last summer, competing in all games except the one against Iceland.

He is playing in the left wing position and has so far scored 15 goals in 64 appearances with the Frankfurt team. His name is already on the transfer list of many teams in Europe and if he continues playing with same pace, he is likely to leave the eagles next summer.

Coach

The Austrian Andy Hooter is the coach of Eintracht Frankfurt who has been recruited last summer. He was called to replace the successful Niko Kovac, who continues his coaching career in Bayern Munich.

The 48-year-old coach, before taking responsibility of the German team was in Young Boys with which he won the Swiss championship after 32 years, breaking the streak of Basel which had won eight consecutive championships, until last year! Also, Andy Hooter has won an Austrian double with Salzburg in 2014-15.

Φρανκφούρτη

Στην καρδιά της Ευρώπης υπάρχει μια πόλη που ονομάζεται Φρανκφούρτη, ή αλλιώς... Μανχάταν, λόγω του ποταμού Main που διασχίζει τη Φρανκφούρτη και τη γραμμή του ορίζοντα, όπως ακριβώς και στο Μανχάταν. Η Φρανκφούρτη πήρε το όνομά της το 794, βρίσκεται στην καρδιά της Ευρώπης και είναι η πατρίδα του ποδοσφαιρικού συλλόγου Άιντραχτ Φρανκφούρτης. Ίσως γνωρίζετε τη Φρανκφούρτη για το μεγαλύτερο αεροδρόμιο της Γερμανίας, αλλά αυτό δεν είναι το μόνο πράγμα που κάνει την πόλη του ποταμού Main τόσο ιδιαίτερη. Η Φρανκφούρτη είναι μια πολυπολιτισμική πόλη, με περίπου 750.000 κατοίκους από 170 διαφορετικές χώρες. Υπάρχει επίσης μεγάλη παράδοση στη Φρανκφούρτη. Limassol

Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus with a population of approximately 180,000. It is one of six districts and covers an area of 34.87 km2. Located on the southern coast, Limassol stretches around westward to the Paphos district, bordering with the district of Larnaca on the east and with Nicosia on the north. In addition to the recognized popularity as a tourism destination, Limassol is also an administrative and business centre, a port, a resort, the centre of the wine industry and home to many archeological sites.

The vivacious city centre, seems to offer a journey through time where the University with its bustling young students aiming for a brighter future is just a few streets away from the old market and ancient castle which link us to the past. Gracefully blending old with new continues, as across the seafront one can appreciate the cosmopolitan side of Limassol with its contemporary business structures and modern apartment buildings while only several kilometers away one can find charming areas with cobblestone streets, quaint buildings with overhanging terraces under which there are a profusion of small shops, restaurants and cafes.

The city of Limassol has a rich history that goes back to around the 2nd century B.C. The city is situated between the ancient cities of Amathous to the east and Kourion to the west. Limassol was inhabited since the very ancient years and tombs discovered there date back to around the

2nd century B.C., while others date back to around the 8th and 4th centuries B.C. The few ancient finds that were discovered show that a small settlement existed there which did not manage to develop and flourish.

The city, in the 10th century, was known as Nemesos and the Byzantine emperor, Constantine Porphyrogenitus, refers to this city with this name. The history of the city is mainly known for its events in 1191 A.D., which marked the end of the Byzantine Rule in Cyprus. Limassol was then surrendered to the Frankish Empire of the Lusignan Kings of the medieval Cypriot kingdom. For about three centuries (1192-1489), Limassol experienced a remarkable period of prosperity. In 1489 A.D., the Queen of Cyprus, Ekaterini Cornaro, surrendered Cyprus to the city of Venice. This lasted until the Turkish Occupation took place in 1570 A.D. Then the British conquered Cyprus in 1878, while in 1960 significant changes followed the liberation of Cyprus, which contributed to the cultural and artistic life of the city. Schools, theatres, art galleries, music halls and football clubs were formed and played a significant role in the cultural life of Limassol.

The city of Limassol was developed much after the Turkish invasion of 1974. Luxurious hotels, restaurants and numerous entertainment clubs were built and thus the city soon became a significant touristic centre.

Η σημερινή μας αντίπαλος έχοντας τρεις νίκες σε ισάριθμους αγώνες, προπορεύεται του ομίλου και με αυτά τα αποτελέσματα έχει σχεδόν προκριθεί στην επόμενη φάση. Στην πρώτη αγωνιστική η Άιντραχτ επικράτησε με 1-2 της Μαρσέιγ εκτός έδρας αγωνιζόμενη μάλιστα με 10 ποδοσφαιριστές για μεγάλο διάστημα. Στην ίδια αγωνιστική η ομάδα μας ηττήθηκε με 2-1 στη Ρώμη από την Λάτσιο με σκόρερ τον Ζελάγια. Στη δεύτερη αγωνιστική ο Απόλλωνας φιλοξένησε την Μαρσέιγ και εκεί που έχανε με 0-2 κατάφερε και ισοφάρισε στο 90’. Σκόρερ για την ομάδα μας οι Μάρκοβιτς και Ζελάγια. Την ίδια ώρα η Άιντραχτ «διέλυε» την Λάτσιο στη Φρανκφούρτη συντρίβοντας την με το βαρύ 4-1. Στην τρίτη αγωνιστική διεξήχθησαν οι αγώνες Άιντραχτ - Απόλλων και Μαρσέιγ - Λάτσιο. Στη Γερμανία οι «αετοί» επικράτησαν με 2-0 της ομάδας μας ενώ οι άλλοι «αετοί» του ομίλου, της Λάτσιο, επιβλήθηκαν με 1-3 των Γάλλων στη Μασσαλία.

Our current opponent, having three wins in an equal number of games, is leading the group and with these results has almost been qualified to the next round. In the first competition round, Eintracht prevailed Marseille with 1-2 score away from home, competing with 10 players for a long time during the game. In the same competition, our team lost with 2-1 score in Rome from Lazio, with Zelaya being the scorer. In the second competition round, Apollon hosted Marseille and while having a 0-2 score, the team managed to even the score in the 90 ‘. Markovic and Zelaya were the scorers for our team. At the same time, Eintracht “brought down” Lazio in Frankfurt, with a heavy 4-1 score. In the third competition round, Eintracht - Apollo and Marseille - Lazio games were held. In Germany the “eagles” prevailed with 2-0 score , while the other “eagles” of the group, Lazio, imposed an 1-3 score over the French in Marseilles.

ΔΙΚΑΙΗ Η ΕΠΙΚΡΑΤΗΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΑΪΝΤΡΑΧΤ

Την ήττα με 2-0 γνώρισε η ομάδα μας στη Φρανκφούρτη στο πλαίσιο της 3ης αγωνιστικής του UEFA Europa League. Η Άιντραχτ προηγήθηκε νωρίς στον αγώνα, συγκεκριμένα στο 13’, μετά από δυνατό σουτ του Kostic με το Βάλε να μην καταφέρει να συγκρατήσει τη μπάλα. Οι Γερμανοί είχαν τον έλεγχο του αγώνα και αυτό είχε ως αποτέλεσμα να έρθει και το δεύτερο τέρμα το οποίο πέτυχε ο Haller με δυνατή κεφαλιά στο 32’.

Στο Β΄ μέρος οι γηπεδούχοι συνέχισαν στον ίδιο ρυθμό ωστόσο ο Μπρούνο Βάλε με τις εξαιρετικές αποκρούσεις του κράτησε το 2-0 μέχρι το τέλος.

Στο 80’ σημειώθηκε η μεγαλύτερη φάση της ομάδας μας με πρωταγωνιστές τους Ζοάο Πέδρο και Φώτη Παπουλή να σημαδεύουν το δοκάρι σε δύο περιπτώσεις ενώ στην επαναφορά ο Ζελάγια προσπάθησε να σκοράρει, ωστόσο οι αντίπαλοι αμυντικοί απέκρουσαν πάνω στη γραμμή, στερώντας μας την ευκαιρία να διεκδικήσουμε κάτι περισσότερο στα τελευταία λεπτά του αγώνα.

Eintracht’s dominance has been fair

The game ended with 2-0 defeat of our team in Frankfurt in the framework of the 3rd UEFA Europa League game. Eintracht preceded early in the game, namely in the 13’ , after the strong kick of Kostic, with Vale not managing to keep the ball. The Germans had control over the game and this resulted to the second goal scored by Haller with a strong head kick in the 32’.

In the second part, the hosts continued at the same pace, but Bruno Vale with his remarkable save, maintained the 2-0 score to the end.

In the 80’ minute, the biggest phase of our team was recorded, with Joao Pedro and Fotis Papoulis marking the goalpost in two phases, while Zelaya attempted to score, but the opponent defenders prevented the goal on the line, depriving us of the opportunity to claim something more in the final minutes of the game.

The tonight’s game with Eintracht as opponent, is the 92nd game of Apollon in European competitions, aiming to achieve the 28th victory in history and get back to victories of the 2018-2019 UEFA Europe League groups. CYPRUS... The pearl of the Mediterranean

Cyprus is located in the northeast of the Mediterranean, at the intersection point of Europe, Asia and Africa. In 1983, after violating the Charter of the United Nations, Turkey proceeded into declaring the so-called «Turkish Democratic Republic of Northern Cyprus» that until today it is only recognised by Turkey. Cyprus is gifted with golden beaches, primeval forests and other wonderful natural landscapes. The environment of the island is now among the healthiest of the world, free of the pollution and other side-effects of the industrial counties. As far as criminality is concerned, it is almost non-existent.

Cyprus enjoys a wonderful Mediterranean climate. Apart from the rainfall period between November and March, Cyprus is constantly sunny. The average temperatures range from 8°C (42°F), during the coldest month, December, to 35°C (96°F) during the warmest month, which is August. However, weather is not the only attractive characteristic of the island. The people of Cyprus are equally famous, for the warm and friendly welcoming they provide to their visitors.

In May, 2004, Cyprus became officially a member of the European Union and in 2008 entered the Eurozone, thus connecting Europe and Middle East and the rest of the world.

Having been recognized as the ultimate business and financial centre in the wider area, the island has competitive advantages in sectors such as tourism, provision of consulting services, banking and insuring services, investments and construction business, shipping and telecommunications.

Σας χαιρετώ με ιδιαίτερη χαρά ενόψει του αποψινού ευρωπαϊκού αγώνα της ομάδας μας κόντρα στην Άιντραχτ εδώ στο ΓΣΠ. Σίγουρα προσδοκούσαμε σε μια ακόμη καλύτερη πορεία στη φάση των ομίλων της διοργάνωσης, ωστόσο η κλήρωση μας έφερε αντιμέτωπους με πολύ ισχυρούς αντιπάλους, οι οποίοι προσδοκούν να ταξιδέψουν μέχρι το τέλος της φετινής διοργάνωσης.

Μέχρι σήμερα αντιμετωπίσαμε στα ίσα και τους τρεις αντιπάλους μας, ωστόσο ο ένας βαθμός που κερδίσαμε, να μην απεικονίζει την σκληρή προσπάθεια που καταβάλαμε κόντρα σε Λάτσιο, Μαρσέιγ και Άιντραχτ. Απόψε έχουμε να αντιμετωπίσουμε την καλύτερη κατά την άποψη μου ομάδα του ομίλου, βάση των αποτελεσμάτων και απόδοσης της στις τρεις πρώτες αγωνιστικές.

Ο κάθε αγώνας στην όμορφη αυτή διοργάνωση αποτελεί για εμάς μία ξεχωριστή πρόκληση και κόντρα στη Γερμανική ομάδα, έχουμε την ευκαιρία να πάρουμε ένα ακόμη καλό αποτέλεσμα, το όποιο θα... τοποθετήσουμε στην ήδη πλούσια ευρωπαϊκή μας ιστορία. Εγχείρημα δύσκολο, όχι όμως ακατόρθωτο αν συνυπολογίσουμε ότι στο ΓΣΠ ο Απόλλωνας παρουσιάζει ένα ιδιαίτερα ανταγωνιστικό πρόσωπο.

Εύχομαι σε όλους να απολαύσουμε την αποψινή αναμέτρηση και στο τέλος ανεξαρτήτου αποτελέσματος να χειροκροτήσουμε την προσπάθεια που θα καταβάλουμε απέναντι σ’ ένα αντίπαλο δυσανάλογου μεγέθους.

/Difficult but not impossible

I am delighted to welcome you in view of the tonight’s European game of our team against Eintracht here in GSP stadium. We certainly expected an even better course in our participation in the groups of the event, however the draw brought us against very strong opponents, who are expecting to reach the end of this year’s event.

So far, we have faced equally all of our three opponents, however the one point we gained does not reflect our hard effort against Lazio, Marseille and Eintracht. Tonight we have to face the best team of the group, in my opinion, based on its results and performance in the first three games.

Each game of this beautiful event is a special challenge for us and against the German team, we have the opportunity to get another good result that will be included in our already rich European history. This attempt is difficult, but not impossible, if we take into consideration that Apollon FC presents a highly competitive profile in GSP stadium.

I wish everyone to enjoy tonight’s game and regardless the result, let’s applaud at the end of the game our effort against this opponent of disproportionate size indeed.

ΓΗΠΕΔΟ ΓΣΠ

Ο Απόλλωνας Λεμεσού αγωνίζεται για ακόμη μια χρονιά στις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις μακριά από τη Λεμεσό. Η ομάδα μας δήλωσε ως έδρα το Γήπεδο ΓΣΠ στην πρωτεύουσα Λευκωσία, το οποίο είναι το μεγαλύτερο και πιο σύγχρονο γήπεδο της Κύπρου.

Κτίστηκε το 1999, είναι κατηγορίας 4 και έχει χωρητικότητα 22.829 θέσεων. Οι διαστάσεις του γηπέδου είναι 105mX68m και ο φωτισμός του 1500 Lux.

Ελπίζουμε ότι την επόμενη χρονιά να μπορούμε να αγωνιστούμε στη φυ-

σική μας έδρα στη Λεμεσό, εφόσον γίνουν οι απαιτούμενες αναβαθμίσεις

στο Τσίρειο Στάδιο, μέχρι την ανέγερση του νέου γηπέδου της Λεμεσού.

GSP Stadium

Apollon Limassol is once again competing in European Competitions away from Limassol. Apollon stated as home groud GSP stadium, given that it is the most modern stadium in Cyprus.

Built in 1999, is a category 4 stadium and can seat up to 22.829 people. Its dimensions are 105mX68m and its flood lighting is 15000 Lux. We hope that this upcoming season we will be able to compete in our legit home ground in Limassol, as long as the required upgrades take place at Tsirio Stadium, until the construction of the new stadium of Limassol.
