Φίλες και φίλοι του Απόλλωνα, Σας χαιρετώ από μία ακόμη ευρωπαϊκή έκδοση ενόψει του επαναληπτικού αγώνα απέναντι στην Shamrock Rovers στο πλαίσιο του Β’ προκριματικού γύρου του UEFA Europa League.

Ο Απόλλωνας ξεπέρασε το εμπόδιο της Κάουνο Ζαλγκίρις με δύο νίκες και συνολικό σκορ 6-0. Καλείται στον αποψινό αγώνα να αποδείξει την ανωτερότητά του εκπληρώνοντας το καθήκον του και να προκριθεί στον Γ’ προκριματικό γύρο, εκεί όπου θα αναμετρηθεί με την Αούστρια Βιέννης.

Η ήττα με 2-1 του πρώτου αγώνα στην Ιρλανδία δεν ήταν το επιθυμητό αποτέλεσμα, ωστόσο το εκτός έδρας τέρμα θα αποτελέσει σημαντικό παράγοντα στην υπόθεση πρόκριση. Η συγκέντρωση, η θέληση για τη νίκη και το πείσμα, είναι τα στοιχεία τα οποία θα αποτελέσουν το συστατικά για την ανατροπή.

Η ομάδα μας επιβάλλεται να παρουσιάσει το γνωστό καλό της πρόσωπο και να αποκλείσει τους Ιρλανδούς από τη συνέχεια, έτσι ώστε να έχει μακρά πορεία στη διοργάνωση. Τελικός στόχος είναι η τρίτη διαδοχική πρόκριση και πέμπτη συνολικά στους ομίλους του UEFA Europa League.

Welcome to another European edition of our official match program.

This time we face Sharock Rovers for the 2nd leg of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.

Apollon managed to overcome the challenge of Kauno Zalgiris with two wins and an overall score of 6-0. Tonight, our team has to prove its superiority and fulfill its duty to qualify to the third qualifying round, where we will face Austria Vienna.

The 2-1 loss in the first leg in Ireland was not a desirable result; however, the away goal can prove to be a determining factor for the qualification. The elements needed to beat the odds and qualify are focus, will to win and tenacity.

Our team is obliged to perform well and eliminate the Irish team, in order to continue in the competition. The ultimate goal is to make it into the UEL Group Stage for the third consecutive and fifth overall time.

In order to achieve that, we need everyone’s help, from the board, the coaches, football players and above all the great fans of Apollon Limassol.

ΣΤΗΡΙΞΗ ΜΕΧΡΙ ΚΑΙ ΤΟ ΤΕΛΕΥΤΑΙΟ ΛΕΠΤΟ.

Ξεκινήσαμε τη νέα αγωνιστική περίοδο με δύο νίκες επί της Κάουνο Ζαλγκίρις με συνολικό σκορ 6-0. Στην Ιρλανδία παρά το γεγονός ότι η ομάδα μας πήρε από πολύ νωρίς το προβάδισμα του αγώνα, δεν καταφέραμε να πανηγυρίσουμε μία ακόμη εκτός έδρας νίκη και να βάλουμε καλύτερες βάσεις πρόκρισης. Δεν μας στεναχώρησε η ήττα, αλλά ο τρόπος με τον οποίο ήρθε. Ευελπιστούμε ότι απόψε στο ΓΣΠ, η εμπειρία και η ποιότητα των ποδοσφαιριστών μας, θα μας οδηγήσουν στο επιθυμητό αποτέλεσμα. Η ομάδα μας θα αποδείξει με την εμφάνιση της, ότι το σκορ του τελευταίου αγώνα ήταν μια κακή παρένθεση και θα έχει την αυτοπεποίθηση η οποία απαιτείται, για να πάρει την πολυπόθητη πρόκριση.

Στόχος μας είναι η επίτευξη ενός γρήγορου τέρματος το οποίο θα απελευθερώσει τους ποδοσφαιριστές μας από κάθε ίχνος άγχους. Δύσκολες στιγμές υπήρξαν, υπάρχουν και πάντοτε θα συναντούμε στην πορεία μας, όμως με μεγάλη προσπάθεια θα ξεπεράσουμε ότι κι αν βρεθεί στον δρόμο μας. Αναγνωρίζω τα προβλήματα τα οποία αντιμετωπίζει η μεγάλη μάζα των φίλων της ομάδας μας με την κάρτα οπαδού και τη διαδρομή Λεμεσός-Λευκωσία, ωστόσο οι ποδοσφαιριστές της ομάδας υπόσχονται ότι θα δώσουν τον καλύτερο τους εαυτό, με αδιαπραγμάτευτο στόχο την πρόκριση τους στον επόμενο προκριματικό γύρο του UEFA Europa League. Το είπαμε χιλιάδες φορές ότι η παρουσία των οπαδών στο γήπεδο, δίνει άλλη δυναμική στην ομάδα. Οι ποδοσφαιριστές έχουν την ανάγκη να νιώσουν τη στήριξη μας μέχρι και το τελευταίο λεπτό.

We started our season with two wins against Kauno Zalgiris with an overall score of 6-0. In Ireland despite getting an early lead, we didn’t manage to celebrate one more away victory and set the foundations for an easier 2nd leg in Cyprus. We are not disappointed by the defeat but we are disappointed by the performance.

We hope that tonight in GSP, the experience and the quality of our football players will lead us to the desirable result. Our team will prove, with its performance,, that the result of the first leg was just a misfortune and will have the confidence needed to get the desired qualification.

Our goal is to score early in the match, something which will release all the pressure from our football players. There were some difficult moments and there will always be, however, with a big effort, we will overcome whatever comes in our way.

I recognize the problems that a lot of our fans have to overcome in order to come to the stadium, the fan card and the journey from Limassol to Nicosia, however, our football players promise to do everything they can to qualify to the next qualification round of the UEFA Europa League.

We have previously mentioned that the fans presence in the stadium gives totally new dynamics to the team. The football players need to feel the support from the beginning of the match until the last minute.

Η ΙΣΤΟΡΙΑ ΤΗΣ ΟΜΑΔΑΣ

Η ποδοσφαιρική ομάδα Shamrock Rovers ιδρύθηκε το 1899 στην περιοχή του Ringsend στο Ανατολικό Δουβλίνο.

Ο σύλλογος πήρε το όνομα του από ένα δρόμο της περιοχής, την λεωφόρο Shamrock. Ο σύλλογος αναπτύχθηκε πολύ γρήγορα και καθιερώθηκε σαν ένα από τους κορυφαίους νέους συλλόγους στο Δουβλίνο, αλλά η περίοδος από το 1899 μέχρι 1920 αποδείχθηκε ιδιαίτερα δύσκολη και μόνο μετά το τέλος αυτής οι Rovers παγίωσαν την θέση τους σε μια πιο μόνιμη βάση.

The history of the team

Shamrock Rovers Football Club was founded in the year 1899 in the Ringsend area of East Dublin. The club was given its name from a street there, Shamrock Avenue. The club very quickly grew and established itself as one of the leading junior clubs in Dublin but the period between 1899 and 1920 proved to be challenging and it wasn’t until after then that Rovers settled on a more permanent basis.

The season 1921/22 proved to be a major turning point for Shamrock Rovers as they cruised to the Leinster Senior League title and qualified for the first ever national cup final. They came up against national league winners St. James’ Gate and although Rovers lost in a replay, they knew their own time had come to join the ranks of the League of Ireland (the national league) and play at the highest level.

Shamrock Rovers won the title in their first season playing in the top league, losing just one game in the 1922/23 season. Since then Rovers have become the most successful club in Ireland, winning the league title 17 times and the national cup (FAI Cup) on 24 occasions (both a record).

From 1922 to 1987 Shamrock Rovers played at Glenmalure Park in south Dublin but the ground was sold by the then owners of the club for property development and for 22 years the club struggled as they moved around from stadium to stadium. Eventually in 2009 Shamrock

Rovers moved in to Tallaght Stadium, which is based in South West Dublin. The present capacity of the venue is 8,200 fully seated.

Shortly after moving to Tallaght, Rovers or ‘The Hoops’ as they are nicknamed, won back to back league titles. Under the shrewd guidance of manager Michael O’Neill, Rovers made history in becoming the first club from Ireland to qualify for the group stages of the UEFA Europa League. No club in Ireland had ever before come that far in European competition. Since 1926 Shamrock Rovers have provided 63 Ireland senior internationals - more than any other Irish club have done.

Οι Ιρλανδοί ποτέ δεν αποδέχτηκαν την Αγγλική πολιτική εξουσία και η χώρα βίωσε πολλές συγκρούσεις στην ιστορία της καθώς πολλοί γενναίοι προσπάθησαν να πάρουν τον έλεγχο και να απομακρύνουν τις βασιλικές δυνάμεις μακριά.

Το Γενικό Ταχυδρομείο στην κεντρική αρτηρία του Δουβλίνου με όνομα “O’Connell Street” ήταν το μέρος μιας αιματηρής μάχης την Κυριακή του Πάσχα το 1916 όταν Ιρλανδοί εθελοντές κατέλαβαν αυτό κτήριο αλλά και μερικά άλλα και ζήτησαν την ανεξαρτησία τους. Οι Βρετανικές ενισχύσεις έφτασαν γρήγορα στην πόλη και μετά από αρκετές ημέρες κατέστειλαν την εξέγερση. Οι ηγέτες συνελήφθησαν και εφτά από αυτούς, οι οποίοι είχαν καταλάβει το ταχυδρομείο εκτελέστηκαν στο Kilmainham Gaol. Αυτό ήταν το κομβικό σημείο στην μάχη για ανεξαρτησία και το 1922 τελικά οι Βρετανοί αποχώρησαν από τις 26 από τις 32 κομητείες της Ιρλανδίας.

Limassol

Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus with a population of approximately 180,000. It is one of six districts and covers an area of 34.87 km2. Located on the southern coast, Limassol stretches around westward to the Paphos district, bordering with the district of Larnaca on the east and with Nicosia on the north. In addition to the recognized popularity as a tourism destination, Limassol is also an administrative and business centre, a port, a resort, the centre of the wine industry and home to many archeological sites.

The vivacious city centre, seems to offer a journey through time where the University with its bustling young students aiming for a brighter future is just a few streets away from the old market and ancient castle which link us to the past. Gracefully blending old with new continues, as across the seafront one can appreciate the cosmopolitan side of Limassol with its contemporary business structures and modern apartment buildings while only several kilometers away one can find charming areas with cobblestone streets, quaint buildings with overhanging terraces under which there are a profusion of small shops, restaurants and cafes.

The city of Limassol has a rich history that goes back to around the 2nd century B.C. The city is situated between the ancient cities of Amathous to the east and Kourion to the west. Limassol was inhabited since the very ancient years and tombs discovered there date back to around the

2nd century B.C., while others date back to around the 8th and 4th centuries B.C. The few ancient finds that were discovered show that a small settlement existed there which did not manage to develop and flourish.

The city, in the 10th century, was known as Nemesos and the Byzantine emperor, Constantine Porphyrogenitus, refers to this city with this name. The history of the city is mainly known for its events in 1191 A.D., which marked the end of the Byzantine Rule in Cyprus. Limassol was then surrendered to the Frankish Empire of the Lusignan Kings of the medieval Cypriot kingdom. For about three centuries (1192-1489), Limassol experienced a remarkable period of prosperity. In 1489 A.D., the Queen of Cyprus, Ekaterini Cornaro, surrendered Cyprus to the city of Venice. This lasted until the Turkish Occupation took place in 1570 A.D. Then the British conquered Cyprus in 1878, while in 1960 significant changes followed the liberation of Cyprus, which contributed to the cultural and artistic life of the city. Schools, theatres, art galleries, music halls and football clubs were formed and played a significant role in the cultural life of Limassol.

The city of Limassol was developed much after the Turkish invasion of 1974. Luxurious hotels, restaurants and numerous entertainment clubs were built and thus the city soon became a significant touristic centre.

Φίλες και φίλοι του Απόλλωνα, Το αποτέλεσμα του πρώτου αγώνα δεν αφήνει πολλά περιθώρια οριοθέτησης στόχου. Τα δεδομένα και η αποστολή της ομάδας μας είναι προφανής. Η ήττα στην Ιρλανδία δεν ήταν το αποτέλεσμα το οποίο θέλαμε, ωστόσο υπάρχει η πίστη ότι με την ποιότητα και την εμπειρία των ποδοσφαιριστών μας, θα ανατρέψουν την κατάσταση και θα πετύχουμε να προκριθούμε στον επόμενο γύρο του UEFA Europa League.

Επισκέφθηκαν το ΓΣΠ δημοφιλέστερες ομάδες από τη Shamrock Rovers και ο Απόλλωνας κατάφερε να πανηγυρίσει σε δυσκολότερες συνθήκες.

Κατάφερε να επιβληθεί απέναντι σε σπουδαίους αντιπάλους κι αυτό θα προσπαθήσει να κάνει κι απόψε.

Ζήσαμε μεγάλες ευρωπαϊκές βραδιές τα τελευταία χρόνια και η ιστορία του συλλόγου επιτάσσει την πρόκρισή μας στον 3ο προκριματικό γύρο της διοργάνωσης, κάτι το οποίο αποτελεί αδιαπραγμάτευτο στόχο.

Dear fans of Apollon,

the result of the first leg does not allow us to set a goal. Our team’s mission is obvious. The defeat in Ireland was not the desired result, however, there is faith that the quality and the experience of our football players will help us succeed and qualify to the next round of the UEFA Europa League.

Apollon has managed to overcome much harder barriers in the past, by beating some of Europe’s best clubs in GSP Stadium. That is our goal tonight.

We have witnessed big European nights the last years and the history of the club dictates to advance to the 3rd qualifying round of the competition.

ΗΤΤΑ ΠΟΥ ΑΝΑΤΡΕΠΕΤΑΙ!

Την ήττα με 2-1 δέχθηκε ο Απόλλωνας στο Tallaght Stadium στην Ιρλανδία στο πλαίσιο του πρώτου αγώνα του Β’ προκριματικό γύρο του UEFA Europa League.

Το σκορ άνοιξε πολύ νωρίς ο Φώτης Παπουλής με ένα καταπληκτικό ευθύβολο σουτ εκτός περιοχής. Με αυτό το τέρμα ο αρχηγός έφτασε τα

έντεκα στις Ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις και τον Μιλένκο Σπόλιαριτς στη δεύτερη θέση της σχετικής κατάταξης.

Το προβάδισμα της ομάδας μας δεν κράτησε για πολύ, καθώς οι Ιρλανδοί ισοφάρισαν με κεφαλιά του Γκρέις στο 14’ μετά από κόρνερ από τα δεξιά.

Οι στημένες φάσεις ήταν ο μοναδικός τρόπος απειλής της αντιπάλου μας

και με αυτό τον τρόπο κατάφεραν στο 58’ να ανατρέψουν το σκορ. Ο

Λόπες με καρφωτή κεφαλιά μετά από εκτέλεση κόρνερ από τα δεξιά και

πάλι, έκανε το 2-1 για την ομάδα του.

Apollon was defeated 2-1 in Tallaght Stadium in Ireland for the first leg of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. The first goal was scored by Fotis Papoulis with an amazing direct shot out of the penalty area. This was the captain’s eleventh goal in European competitions, who reached Milenko Spoljaric in the second spot on the relevant ranking.

The lead didn’t last long since the Irish team equalized with a header from Grace in the 14th minute after a corner from the left side.

The set pieces were the only way for our opponent to cause problems to our team and that is how they managed to score a second goal in the 58’ when Lopes gave the lead to the Irish, with a strong header after a corner from the right side scored and formed the final score 2-1.

Τα πράγματα έγιναν ακόμη πιο δύσκολα στο 83’ όταν ο Εστεμπάν Σακέτι αντίκρισε την κόκκινη κάρτα, όμως η ομάδα μας προσπάθησε μέχρι το τέλος να ισοφαρίσει, με αποκορύφωμα το απευθείας φάουλ του Αγκίρε, το οποίο απέκρουσε με δυσκολία ο Μάνους σε κόρνερ.

Things became more difficult in the 83’ when Esteban Sachetti was given a red card but our team tried to equalize and the highlight was a direct free kick by Aguirre which was saved by Mannus.

ΕΓΡΑΨΕ ΙΣΤΟΡΙΑ Ο ΖΕΛΑΓΙΑ.

Το όνομά του στην ένδοξη Ευρωπαϊκή ιστορία του Απόλλωνα έγραψε ο Εμίλιο Ζελάγια με το χατ τρικ του στον αγώνα της Πέμπτης (18/7) με την Ζαλγκίρις Κάουνας.

Ο Αργεντινός επιθετικός ανέβηκε στην κορυφή της λίστας των σκόρερ του Απόλλωνα στις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις αφού ξεπέρασε τον Μιλένκο Σπόλιαριτς. Ο 31χρονος σκόραρε ήδη 12 τέρματα ξεπερνώντας τον Σερβοκύπριο θρύλο της ομάδας μας ο οποίος έφτασε μέχρι τα 11.

Το πρώτο του τέρμα με τα χρώματα του Απόλλωνα το πέτυχε στις 3/8/2017 με αντίπαλο την Αμπερντίν στο ΑΕΚ Αρένα. Από τότε ο Αργεντινός επιθετικός σκόραρε απέναντι στις πλείστες αντιπάλους που αντιμετώπισε η ομάδα μας. Σκόραρε στους αγώνες με Αταλάντα, Λάτσιο, Μαρσέιγ, Άιντραχτ (δύο φορές) και Διναμό Μπρεστ (δύο φορές). Το χατ τρικ που πέτυχε επί της Ζαλγκίρις ήταν επίσης ιστορικό, καθώς έγινε μόλις ο δεύτερος ποδοσφαιριστής του Απόλλωνα που καταφέρνει κάτι τέτοιο μετά τον Παπουλή, ο οποίος σκόραρε τρία γκολ επί της Ζελέζνιτσαρ την περασμένη αγωνιστική περίοδο.

Συγχαρητήρια στον Εμίλιο Ζελάγια γι’ αυτό το τεράστιας σημασίας επίτευγμα του.

/Zelaya made history

Zelaya wrote his name in the glorious European history of Apollon after his hat trick in Thursday’s match (18/7) against Zalgiris Kauno.

The Argentinean forward reached the top of the Apollon scorers’ list in European competitions by surpassing Milenko Spoljaric. The 31 year old has already scored 12 goals, one more than the Serbian-Cypriot club legend.

He scored his first goal for Apollon, on the 3rd August 2017 against Aberdeen in AEK arena. Since then, the Argentinean forward has scored against most of the opposing teams. He scored in the matches against Atalanta, Lazio, Marseille, Eintracht (twice) and Dinamo Brest (twice).

His hat trick against Zalgiris was historical, since he became the second football player of Apollon who managed to do something like this after Papoulis, who scored three goals against Zeljesnicar in the previous season.

Ο Απόλλωνας έχει αναμετρηθεί και στο παρελθόν με ομάδα από την Ιρλανδία έχοντας άσχημες αναμνήσεις, αφού γνώρισε τον οδυνηρό αποκλεισμό από το UEFA Champions League το 2006.

Η ομάδα μας αντιμετώπισε την Κορκ Σίτι στο πλαίσιο του Α’ προκριματικού γύρου της κορυφαίας διασυλλογικής διοργάνωσης την αγωνιστική περίοδο 2006-2007.

Ο θρύλος ταξίδεψε στην Ιρλανδία και σε ένα άσχημο αγωνιστικό χώρο ηττήθηκε με 1-0 στην πρεμιέρα εκείνης της χρονιάς. Στον επαναληπτικό ο οποίος επίσης διεξήχθη στο ΓΣΠ, ο Απόλλωνας δεν κατάφερε να κάμψει την αντίσταση της Ιρλανδικής ομάδας, έφερε ισοπαλία 1-1 και γνώρισε έτσι τον αποκλεισμό με συνολικό σκορ 1-2. Αυτή ήταν η μοναδική φορά που η ομάδα μας αντιμετώπισε ομάδα από την Ιρλανδία.

Από την άλλη, η Σάμροκ Ρόβερς αντιμετώπισε ακόμη δύο κυπριακές ομάδες στο παρελθόν έχοντας απολογισμό δύο νίκες, μία ισοπαλία και μία ήττα.

Συγκεκριμένα κέρδισε τον ΑΠΟΕΛ δύο φορές (2-0 και 0-1) για το Κύπελλο Κυπελλούχων την αγωνιστική περίοδο 1978-79. Αντίθετα, την περίοδο 1987-88, η Shamrock Rovers, ηττήθηκε από την Ομόνοια με 1-0 στη Λευκωσία ενώ στην Ιρλανδία εξήλθε ισόπαλη χωρίς τέρματα.

Apollon has faced a team from Ireland before and was eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in 2006. Our team faced Cork city for the 1st qualifying round of the best European competition in the 2006-2007 season.

Apollon travelled to Ireland and lost 1-0 in an inappropriate field. In the second leg in GSP, Apollon didn’t manage to overcome the obstacle of the Irish team and drew 1-1 and as a result was eliminated with an overall score 1-2. This was the only time our team faced a team from Ireland.

On the other hand, Shamrock Rovers has faced two Cypriot teams in the past and had two wins, a draw and a defeat. To be specific, it beat APOEL twice (2-0 and 0-1) for the Cup Winner’s Cup in 1978-79 season but in season 1987-88, Shamrock Rovers, was defeated by Omonoia (1-0) in Nicosia and drew (0-0) in Ireland.

Βρίσκομαι στον Απόλλωνα λιγότερο από δύο χρόνια, ωστόσο έχω ενσωματωθεί και προσαρμοστεί πλήρως. Κατανοώ τις απαιτήσεις του κόσμου, τους στόχους τους οποίους θέτει η ομάδα και επιβάλλει η ιστορία του Απόλλωνα.

Η περσινή μας εμπειρία στους ομίλους του UEFA Europa League, είναι κάτι το οποίο θέλουμε να ζήσουμε ξανά όλοι οι ποδοσφαιριστές της ομάδας. Είναι ονειρικό να αγωνίζεσαι σε αυτό το επίπεδο.

Για να φτάσουμε όμως μέχρι εκεί, θα πρέπει απόψε να δώσουμε την ψυχή μας στον αγωνιστικό χώρο. Να παλέψουμε μέχρι το τελευταίο δευτερόλεπτο και να φέρουμε στην ομάδα μια μεγάλη νίκη, η οποία θα ανατρέψει το αποτέλεσμα του πρώτου αγώνα στην Ιρλανδία.

Δεν συμβιβαζόμαστε με την ιδέα του αποκλεισμού. Καταφέραμε να λυγίσουμε ομάδες με πολύ μεγαλύτερη ποιότητα από τη σημερινή μας αντίπαλο. Η πορεία του Απόλλωνα όλα αυτά τα χρόνια δεν μας επιτρέπει να στοχεύουμε σε οτιδήποτε άλλο πέρα από την πρόκριση. Οφείλουμε να παρουσιαστούμε σοβαροί και να κερδίσουμε την αντίπαλό μας.

I have been in Apollon for less than two years but I have been integrated and fully adapted with the team. I understand the fans expectations; the goals set by the board and imposed by the history of Apollon.

Our success last year, in the group phase of UEFA Europa League, is something that the football players want to recreate. It is a dream to compete at this level.

But, in order to achieve this, we must give everything we got, to fight till the last second and bring one more win to our team, which will turn things around after the defeat in the first leg in Ireland.

We will not compromise; we will not accept the elimination. We have beaten teams with much more quality in the past. Apollon’s recent success does not allow us to aim at anything less than qualifying. We have to be focused and beat our opponents.

With your presence and support, our team will manage to fulfill its goals, and step by step achieve more. It is everyone’s desire to qualify to the groups of UEFA Europa League.

Ο Απόλλωνας Λεμεσού αγωνίζεται για ακόμη μια χρονιά στις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις μακριά από τη Λεμεσό. Η ομάδα μας δήλωσε ως έδρα το Γήπεδο ΓΣΠ στην πρωτεύουσα Λευκωσία, το οποίο είναι το μεγαλύτερο και πιο σύγχρονο γήπεδο της Κύπρου.

Κτίστηκε το 1999, είναι κατηγορίας 4 και έχει χωρητικότητα 22.829 θέσεων.

Οι διαστάσεις του γηπέδου είναι 105mX68m και ο φωτισμός του 1500 Lux.

Apollon Limassol is once again competing in European Competitions away from Limassol. Apollon stated as home groud GSP stadium, given that it is the most modern stadium in Cyprus.
