Art is used as a means of silent conversation, often opening the minds eye of the viewers, encouraging them to see the world of the artist and presenting to them a new vision; a new perspective. Art of Compassion Project is an international art project run by founder Leigh Sanders. The project aims to raise awareness and compassion for animals through a mixture of art mediums. There are currently over 75 international artist activists from 18 different countries, including painters, sculptors, musicians, writers, photographers and graphic designers. Leigh established Art of Compassion as a way to allow herself to become an advocate for animals in her own way and it has since become vehicle for many artists to reach out and connect with their audience.

“I have seen how these artists have started feeling more determined and motivated to use their art as a form of activism. This emotion, commitment, and enthusiasm is tangible in their work.” Each year Art of Compassion Project sets various 'projects' for their artists to complete. The submitted work is then turned into a creative calendar or auctioned off and 100% of the profit is donated to a charity nominated by Art of Compassion. Thus far, Art of Compassion Project has produced 2 calendars, a book, an art exhibition and an auction, with the profits going to charities such as Veganuary and Viva!. Artists featured in this issue include: Amy Guidry / Karen Fiorito Pascale Salmon / Bonnie Leeman Fiona Doyle / Evelyn Suttle For more information about how you can be involved, head to the Art of Compassion website. https://artofcompassionproject.wordpress.com/
Karen Fiorito
California based artist Karen Fiorito has drawn us into her world of colour and texture, using thought evoking imagery of animals in serigraph (a form of silk-screen art).
The Santa Monica artist is inspired by nature, animals, the environment and her fellow vegan artists, saying “I ask my audience to consider animals as sacred, magical beings worthy of love and respect, not as objects for consumption.” Her beautiful, thought provoking works have been on display internationally in over 100 exhibitions and featured in major publications such as Art in America, the Huffington Post, LA Weekly and URB magazine. Her symbolic work has turned heads and drawn attention to the values she holds in her personal life. 1. If you had a super power what would it be? Telepathic Communication with all animals. 2. What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently Getting carded for (vegan) wine! 3. Do you sing in the shower? No, but I meditate sometimes.

Multi-talented Parisian artist, Pascale Salmon began her professional life as a social worker, then textile designer before pursuing her passion in artistic research. Her early fascination was painting the human body and trees, however after travelling to India, she quickly became interested in painting detailed and colourful images of Buddha. Pascale’s work is magical to view, her mandala paintings are filled with colour and detail, all her artwork creating an escape for the viewer to somewhere calm where they can simply be.
Her more recent artworks, inspired by her veganism, initiate reflection about human relationships towards animals and motivates an ethical, vegan lifestyle. Her work centres on the issues of morality, justice, ethics and animal liberation, each artwork prompting the viewer to consider; why?

FIONA
Influenced by the natural world, the elements and the human form, artist Fiona Doyle uses colour, light and detail to produce beautiful, realistic portraits of people and animals. Her work ranges from detailed renderings to expressionistic interpretations but are always linked by natural organic forms. Doyle was born in the Republic of Ireland and migrated down to Australia as a child, deciding early in life that she wanted to be an artist. Doyle has featured in many exhibitions, competitions and undertaken commissions before she began working as a muralist in 2012. Who would win a fight between MacGyver and Chuck Norris? MacGyver would outsmart Chuck You just won $1,000,000 but you have to spend it in an hour. What do you buy? A house! What is the first thing you notice about people? The way they carry themselves https://www.facebook.com/fionasdoyle https://www.instagram.com/fionasdoyle_artist/
Artist As with most creatives, Evelyn Suttle is inspired by rainbows and sunsets, but it isn’t just the romantic natural scenery that inspires her; Evelyn’s work is thought provoking and forces you to consider your impact on the natural world. Suttle’s work has been exhibited throughout Ireland, England and France, the water-colour artist also uses less typical imagery for inspiration, such as pigeons and rubbish. Her artwork is stunning and skillful, making you smile as your eyes brush over the striking colour. The mixed media and strong conceptual nature of her work hypnotises you and transports the mind to the concepts of negative human impact such as pollution, animal rights, diversity and sustainability.
Left or right handed? Right handed, left winged If you could have four arms or four legs which would you have? Four arms for cuddles Last song you sang in the shower? Love Potion Number 9

Hungarian born artist Dora Zambo uses her ability to empathise to draw us into her mind, where she is fighting with everything she has for the planet and it's beings. Zambo cleverly uses fabric to create life-sized sculptures of animals in unnatural and confronting situations; hens hanging upside down from wire, mother pigs painfully laying on their side waiting for their piglets. These sculptures are representations of how animal are being treated every day around the world as they are 'mass produced' and prepared for human consumption. It begs the audience to look closely at the treatment of these animals, their emotions and their ever-present fear. As humans we have socially been conditioned to look at animals as food, and ignore that these beautiful beings simply do not want to die.
Inspired by mother nature, Esther the Wonder Pig as well as philosophy and travel, Zambo uses her emotional connection to the animal world as a basis for her art. Each of her exhibitions have taken on a life of it's own, sparking improvised debates about the non-human animal's life, antispecism and the devastation caused by human impact.
