Police, fire depts. host night out K-9s, SWAT show off for residents By JONATHAN COPSEY jonathan@northfulton.com ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The cities of Milton and Alpharetta gave residents a chance to come out and have fun with their public safety departments – police, fire and EMS crews – Aug. 6 at Wills Park for National Night Out. Fire trucks opened their doors for people to sit in, police officers gave K-9 and SWAT demonstrations and emergency crews showed off their safety gear. SWAT trucks and fire safety vehicles were open to tours. The National Night Out campaign started in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, establish community-police partnerships and to instill neighborhood camaraderie.

MILTON, Ga.— City Council member Lance Large announced he will be stepping down from his position as a Milton City Council member. This will require a special election this November. Large said his wife’s business requires LARGE a move back to Virginia but that he’ll continue on in his position until the special election is complete. “We moved here from Virginia Beach and most of my wife’s business is in Virginia,” he said. “And she wants me to go with her, which is a good thing.” Per the city’s charter, the City Council has to call for a special election and the mechanism for that to occur is in legal review and will most likely be on the Aug. 19 council meeting agenda. This will be the first special election for the city. “The person elected will serve the remainder of Councilman Large’s term, until Dec. 31, 2015.” City Clerk Sudie Gordon said. “That person will be up for re-election in the November 2015 municipal election.” Gordon said qualifying for the November special election would be from Aug. 26
