FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A rock quarry in south Forsyth County is asking for a variance to allow their facility to operate at a sound frequency of 20 decibels louder than county code allows — 60 decibels. On Aug. 26, Bluegrass Materials Co. held a meeting with community residents to address concerns and explain the company’s reasoning in requesting the sound variance to be 75 decibels rather ALDO NAHED/STAFF than 60 decibels. New library opens to great fanfare By ALDO NAHED aldo@forsythherald.com CUMMING, Ga. — The new Post Road Library opened Aug. 24 to great community support. Laura Bradley, program manager for the Forsyth County Public Library, said the opening was better than imagined. “We knew there was a big buzz in the community about the new library,” Bradley said. “It just blew all of our expectations.”

Throughout the grandopening day, 1,800 people visited the futuristic-looking 23,500-square-foot facility, 5010 Post Road near Midway Park. About 200 cards were issued to new patrons of the Forsyth County Public Library. “We enjoyed having so many programs and offering such a fun atmosphere for the grand opening,” Bradley said. There were programs for children, teens and adults, with nearly 400 patrons taking part in the courses.

“In particular, the children’s programs were a hit,” Bradley said. Children liked the event because of a penguin-themed story time and a visit from Tacky the penguin. “Just those two programs alone – we offered one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and they brought in about 300 attendees,” Bradley said. In addition to programs, there were raffles and give-
