Huntington Helps Children Make the Move Back to School As the school year approaches, parents call learning centers to help their children transition back to school. This is especially true of parents whose children are reluctant, (even frightened) about returning. The specially-trained teachers and personal attention offered at Huntington Learning Center can give a child the much-needed shot of self-esteem for the new school year. Naturally, children experience some anxiety entering a new classroom. However, when anxiety turns to dread, it is important to find out why and help them move past it. Huntington focuses on three building blocks that help a child overcome fear-of-school: skills, confidence, and motivation. With all three, success follows. We build skills - Children become frustrated when they cannot keep up with classmates or school assignments due to a lack of basic skills. If a child was having problems
at the end of last school year, new material will be even more overwhelming now. By working on academic skills at our learning centers, children can master new material. We build self-confidence Without self-confidence, children may not feel capable of success. To build confidence, we set reasonable expectations and attainable goals, praising the child’s achievements. Finding that they can complete small tasks, children feel better moving on to bigger challenges. We build motivation - When unmotivated, a child may express boredom or frustration with materials studied. At Huntington, we know that the key to motivating children is to make learning interesting. We also encourage parents to look for real world opportunities to show their children the value of schoolwork. Once a child has skills and confidence, motivation follows because now they can do the work. The diagnostic test taken
by students at Huntington Learning Center is the first step toward academic success. After diagnosing a child’s exact strengths and weaknesses, a customized program of instruction can be prescribed. Our goal is to help children reach their full potential. For more information about Huntington’s customized program of instruction, contact Terry Schwarz of the Alpharetta Huntington Learning Center at 678-240-9221 or visit www.huntingtonhelps.com.

Three common myths about the SAT debunked Myth 1: Colleges prefer the SAT over the ACT All four-year colleges in the U.S. now accept the ACT, and it is highly regarded. Some admissions professionals will even tell you that they prefer it over the SAT because it is based more on coursework and better reflects how a student will perform in college. They can take a free ACT vs. SAT Comparison Test at Chyten to determine which test is best. Myth 2: Colleges only see the scores I send them This is often accompanied by rumors like “it doesn’t matter how many times I take the SAT because colleges won’t see it,” or “I will just focus on one section of the SAT at a time because colleges will take my highest score for each section.” While many colleges state that they will still “Superscore” (use the highest section across multiple test dates), the jury is still out on why they want all the scores. Most think it is simply in the interest of making certain that they have all the correct data to select the highest scores.
How it Works:
The 3 hour test is held in the Chyten centers under actual test conditions. It contains all components of both the SAT and ACT. Within just a few days of taking the test, the Center Director will sit down with you to review the results. During this introductory period, there is no cost for either the test or the private consultation (a $90 value).
The Magnostic™ Report analyzes your test performance in nearly 100 categories. You will see detailed results on each component of the ACT and SAT tests. The 9-page report also measures fatigue factor, point-cost factor, confidence factor and other variables.
CALL 678-824-6890 With our staff of Masters Degree or PhD’s tutors we can help to improve your grade point average in most subjects. Ask about how we can reduce your study time requirements.
Myth 3: I don’t need to take SAT Subject Tests First of all, you will need them if you are applying to the Ivy League, many small competitive liberal arts colleges or some popular universities. Finally, some colleges that don’t require SAT Subject Tests in general, do require them for certain programs like engineering or nursing. And the best time to take them is when you finish the subject material. Don Wardle Director Chyten of Johns Creek and Milton 678 824 6890
