Precinct lines to change for 2024 election cycle By SHELBY ISRAEL shelby@appenmedia.com FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Forsyth County officials plan to add new polling places and adjust precinct lines for the 2024 election cycle. The changes would affect some 30,000 registered voters in north Forsyth County. The County Commission approved the advertising of the proposed changes at a work session Oct. 24. The proposal will be shared with residents throughout November in the county’s legal organ Forsyth County News, and a feedback portal will open on the Elections Office website. The Board of Voter Registrations and Elections will discuss the precinct line and polling place changes Nov. 14 and consider final approval Dec. 5. The changes will go before the Board of Commissioners for official approval Dec. 7. “That will give us the last couple of weeks of December to input all of this information into the statewide system so that we can be ready,” Forsyth County Voter Registrations and Elections Director Mandi Smith said. “Because we’ll start creating the ballot by the beginning of January for the presidential preference primary in March.” Smith said under Georgia law, the Board of Commissioners, rather than the Elections Board, must approve the plans after Forsyth County’s population exceeded 250,000 in the 2020 Census. She said elections staff’s biggest current challenge is finding adequate locations to host polling.
