Johns Creek bids farewell to fire chief JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — The Johns Creek City Council recognized its former Fire Chief Jeff Hogan at its Jan. 28 council meeting. Earlier in January, the city announced Hogan would be leaving to accept appointment from Jim Beck, Georgia’s Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner, to become State Fire Marshal. Hogan began his career more than 35 years ago when he joined the Fulton County Fire Department. After a successful tenure where he held various operations, investigative and supervisory roles, Hogan joined the newly formed Johns Creek Fire Department in 2008. After only a few years, he rose through the ranks to become the city’s fire chief in February of 2011. In this role, Hogan worked to improve the city’s fire protection rating making Johns Creek a Class 2 fire department, ultimately saving the citizens of Johns Creek over $6 million in insurance premiums. In his role as State Fire Marshal of Georgia, Hogan will manage all responsibilities of the Fire Marshal’s Office and oversee building inspection, manufactured housing inspection, engineering, hazardous materials inspections and licensing. Johns Creek Assistant Fire Chief Chris Coons will serve as Interim Fire Chief until a permeant replacement is hired.
