The Memorial Lookout there has panoramic views across Rivoli Bay and Lake George. It is dedicated to two service men killed dismantling a mine during World War II.
Why not learn Still Water Paddle Boarding or start the day invigorated by joining the Sea Urchins – hardy folk who swim summer and winter at 7.30 each morning. Nature lovers will enjoy the walking trails and secluded beaches. See a range of bird life and ancient shell middens. Cape Martin Lighthouse Walk
A short walk through the dunes from town passes the lighthouse and overlooks the boatyard and Penguin Island. The island is a sanctuary and home to fairy penguins and sea birds. Cape Martin Lighthouse was established in 1960.
Old Wool & Grain Store
Originally a shipping warehouse, the museum has many interesting displays of the early days of the area, including the house at the top. Whaling was the first industry in the area. There was a whaling station at Whalers Point, Rivoli Bay North. Small boats set out when a whale was sighted and were harpooned. Dead whales were towed back to the shore station for processing.

Beachport Jetty
Work on the original jetty began in early 1878 with a contract for a British firm to build it. It was to be 4,000 feet long with a “T” at the end of 122 feet. However the Government was unhappy with progress and revoked the contract and undertook completion. The jetty was finally finished in 1882, after the Mount Gambier to Beachport Railway was built. The structure of the jetty was never quite satisfactory and a few years later the end “T” section and part of the jetty were removed leaving 2536 feet (772 metres) remaining. It is the second longest jetty in the state.
