CONCEPT: To maintain the vibrancy of the villages and to achieve the density of the urban context, the idea of the design is to invite streets into middle and high-rise buildings. On the other hand, two types of units are developed from the original street residential prototype of Singapore, the shophouses and the bungalows. Combining these two aspects, a new living typology is generated: living a street life in the high-rise building. The tower as one result of the combination is designed in-depth. The street is running along the inner side of the two bands of the tower from the top floor to the ground, connecting all the communal spaces and units. Each unit can also contribute and participate in the street life by individualizing their own interaction room. With multiple activities happening on the streets, the tower is activated and thus serves as the incubator of the collective community.

Site Plan

Regeneration Instructor: Roy Strickland Site: New York Time: 2015.09-2015.12 Typer: Acdemic Independent CONCEPT: As a reconstucted project located in Sunnyside Yard, Queens, New York, the idea of this urban design plays not only one connection between Manhattan and Queens, but also the catalyst to stimulate surrounding area. Using a green belt to collect and form a larger public space to invite people participate including dispersed several parks and surrounding neighborhood. As for the site use, it is considered to be a walkable and convenient region maintaining multi-program of living, working and playing. So this site is mix-used blocks of commercial and residential as well as major circulation of people is public transportation. Besides, considering of surrounding neighborhoods' requirement, there are several institutional settings according to original location of schools, university and museums.

Breath & Rebirth Instructor: Ming Luo Site: Chongqing, China Time: 2012.05-2012.07 Typer: Acdemic Independent CONCEPT: In many historic region, there are lots of old buildings to determine whether be demolished or preserved. In the case of some buildings with neither long nor short history such as those 20th century buildings, the best way is keeping some parts and reconstructing the rest in the original site. According to local environment conditions and materials, the concept of mountains and the pattern of bricks have been came up. Besides, this project is located in a hot and moist city, so it’s important to use local weather condition to improve building’s inside microclimate in a low carbon way.

CONCEPT: This theater design is located in Central South University, near the stadium of CSU. Because this site is in the east of Yuelu Mountain and west of Xiangjiang River, to infuse with environment, the whole design is a big slope from east to west. So main idea is most based on the baseline from the stadium to the in-campus river. Students in this Instructor: Weiding Li university and people around the site used to sit on the lawn, play with a lot of people and enjoy the view of Site: Changsha, China the small river near this site. Thus, this site is remained most of the land of lawn and dug into underground for Time: 2013.03-2013.05 Typer: Acdemic Independent theater. People could still sit on the lawn of the slope without changing much of the view on the ground.
