hillr, often described as ’whatsapp for money’, is India's 1st multi bank payment application. Available on iOS, Android and Windows, Chillr app makes it possible to send money instantly to anyone in your phonebook without having to know the recipient's account details. Unlike wallets, Chillr lets you keep the money in your savings bank account till the point of the actual expense. Apart from sending and requesting money, the partner bank's customers can enjoy a host of other features like special discounts with specific merchants, recharging prepaid mobiles, DTH and data cards, splitting of bills between friends/colleagues as well as an option to quickly check the account balance right on the home screen. In an email interview with Apps Unveiled team, Sony Joy, Founder and CEO of MOBME's mobile payment spin-off Chillr, shared more information about the app and said, “Over 2.5 Lac users have linked their bank accounts on the app, which is a good number considering that the only HDFC Bank and Bank of Baroda (partner bank) users can actually transact on the platform. Going at a pace of around 10k transactions per day currently, we have already crossed 5.5 lac transactions amounting to over 27 Cr. Our plan is to onboard two more banks in the next fortnight and 15 banks by the end of this fiscal year”. Edited Excerpts: Q. Tell us a bit about Chillr app and its features. Chillr is the first multi bank payment app in India. Chillr users can transfer money instantly to anyone in their phonebook without having to know their bank account details, IFSC codes and even bank name. Chillr makes money transfers possible, even on bank holidays. While using Chillr, users don't need to load a virtual wallet for making transactions. All transactions on Chillr happen directly between bank accounts. Super-fast recharges for prepaid mobile, DTH and data cards, bill splits, payment request and merchant transactions at the outlets (right now piloted in certain pockets of Mumbai) are some of the other major features of the app. Users can also check account balance on the home screen of the app itself. In short, Chillr strives to be a one stop solution for all money based use-cases. Q. How does the Chillr app work? And how safe and secure is the app? It rides on an IMPS platform for instant transactions using mobile platform. All transactions are authenticated using a 4 digit MPIN provided by the bank itself, which is encrypted in the app and can be decrypted only by bank's private key, making it very safe and secure to use. We have done third party security audit by Ernst & Young over and above complying by banks' and RBI's guidelines. There is an option to lock the app with a pattern or

number lock for enhanced security. Q. Who can download Chillr app? And why one should download Chillr app? Your top three reasons for that. Chillr is available on all three major mobile platforms - Android, iOS and Windows. Anyone having an account with any bank can register on Chillr. Partner bank users can do transactions while non-partner bank users can only receive money for now. My top 3 reasons for recommending Chillr app are: 1) It's Simple: The app comes with a very intuitive and user-friendly interface. Money transfers via Chillr do not involve adding beneficiaries, remembering complicated login details or waiting for one time passwords (OTPs). The user can transfer money to his/her Chillr contacts directly just by knowing the phone numbers and using his MPIN. It is like using Whatsapp for money and the ease of use makes it unique and preferred over other solutions.

Q. What are your expansion plans? Which banks has Chillr tied up with? The expansion plans revolve around adding more banks and merchants to get more users onboard and adding more features to the app. We plan to target Pune as our first flagship city by the end of the calendar year. We launched with HDFC Bank as our first partner bank in Feb, 2015. Recently we tied up with Bank of Baroda. The plan is to onboard two more banks in the next fortnight and 15 banks by the end of this fiscal year. Q. What makes Chillr app unique? How are you taking on competition from other players such as Lime by Axis Bank, Pockets by ICICI, or SBI Buddy to name a few? What are your current marketing strategies to stay in the lead?

2) It's not a Wallet: Unlike other solutions present in the market for similar usecases, Chillr is not a wallet. All transactions on Chillr happen directly between bank accounts. We don't handle users' money at any point during the transaction.

Chillr is more user friendly than any other instant mobile payment app out there. The user doesn't have to remember login Ids or passwords which are required for other applications. For using Chillr, there is no need to load a wallet for making payments as all transactions happen directly from the bank accounts. This makes it faster, seamless and more reliable as the money is held in a bank account till the moment of the transaction rather than being handled by a third-party.

3) It's instant: The transactions on Chillr happen instantly. It takes less than 10-15 seconds to do a recharge or transfer money.

Marketing campaigns revolve around establishing this USP of being a payment solution, which is not theoretically a wallet but is still practically even faster.

IN-CONVERSATION Q. How is the response for Chillr app so far? How many active app users you have? The response has been very good till now. Phone Banking, Digital Wallets apps like Oxigen or Paytm, and then there are digital banking apps like Chillr, Lime, Pockets, SBI Buddy and more â&#x20AC;&#x201C; one has so many options. But what's the best solution for any user, in your opinion? Or the best solution is yet to come? There is no solution which can be declared the best for all the users and use-cases. Every solution has its own pros and cons depending upon the purpose at hand. The usage of phone and internet banking apps is still facing a lot of friction in India owing to their complexity and multiple layers of authentication.

The major challenge for a FinTech startup involved in digital payments is obviously to get the trust of users in the security of the system for handling their hard earned money. We overcame this by building a model where we are not really handling user's money at our end at any point before or after the transaction. Money is parked in the banks that they trust, till the moment of transaction and credited instantly to the beneficiary account directly from the bank account. Above that the only level of authentication required to do the transaction (MPIN) is

also generated on the bank's platform hence making it trustworthy for users. Q. Personally, what do you like most about the Chillr app as a user? Your favorite feature? The seamlessness of transactions on Chillr, without hassle of adding beneficiaries, waiting for OTPs and delays is something I like from the perspective of a user. My favorite feature is the ability to check the account balance right on the home screen, which is by all means the easiest and fastest way to do it.

Q. What are the new features you are working on, with plans to release soon?
