Ana Ye Zhang

Madrid, Spain (1992)

She has invented a medical device that helps restore the ability of an ostomized patient to decide when and where to defecate

With a solid background in nursing and biomedical enginee ring, her experience as a nurse has provided her with a deep understanding of patient needs and the challenges of the heal thcare system, playing a key role as a CEO of Ownmed Inno vation.

After colon or bladder cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases, etc., some patients require part of their intestine to be remo ved, so they involuntarily defecate/urinate through the abdo men. To solve this situation, there are the well-known "ostomy" bags, which are attached to the abdomen to collect waste ma terial.

The invention developed and patented by Ana Ye, Ostofix, is an alternative to these bags. With Ostofix, feces remain inside the intestine, and the patient can decide when and where to remove them using a syringe, eliminating the need for adapted bathrooms.

Her dedication and focus have earned her recognition and awards, including the UC3M Social Council TFG Emprende Award 2023.
