GATEWAY LUTON This project analysed the connectivity of Luton and the perception of people about Luton as London. Luton is a small airport town near London that has been a stop center for most of travellers coming from Europe countries. It discovers the concept of usership in travelling after touchdown. AN EXTENSION OF THE AIRPORT AT LUTON TOWN CENTRE. The site near the St. George’s Square will be a catalyst for the wider masterplan of Luton in making it more well-known forthe people especially the London Luton Airport passengers. People coming from other places and countries will be able to receive information about Luton while are able to use the spaces individually and as groups in fulfilling their short-stay needs. It provides the idea of comfort when waiting or resting before continuing the journey to next destinations.

CONCEPTUAL DEVELOPMENT

In the process of developing the form of the building, I took a step of looking closely at the main functions needed to deliver the whole getawat system. The next step was to think about how these components would be positioned within a space and how these spaces would then be connected to each other. STRUCTURAL

After the final design is established through sketches and models, the digital drawing started to be produced in order to understand how the building is constructed including through the structural components of the building in the form of 3D modelling.

HYPER-PLACE

NON PLACE VS HYPER PLACE getaway luton

NON-PLACE

The notion of non place vs hyper place has been the main theme for this project. It tries to overcome the current Luton Airport’s character as a non-place to being a hyper place where the atmosphere and user experience is different. Through celebrating people and culture of Luton, Luton Getaway removes the idea of Luton as a ‘dead city’ without identity. Collage on the left was created at the beginning of the project as part of site study for Luton city. Finally, the hyper place image came towards the end of the project.

PEACE DAY PAVILION SITE LOCATION

SITE PALETTE STUDY THROUGH COLLAGE

DESIGN THROUGH FUNCTIONS WITHIN SITE Peace Day Pavilion is a project with the aim to gather and unite the people of Luton as they used to have a bad history that caused riots among people. Thus, through social and site study, graffiti has been chosen as the main program for the pavilion.

PARTS OF DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

These three sections show the processes of developing the design where MVRDV Dutch Pavilion has been taken as the precedent in terms of design approach. Then, a spine-like structure made of graffiti blocks was designed as to give the foremost attraction that can be seen directly by the people coming into Luton through the train windows.

COMACHINE; THE STRING A mapping device built to study the movement and preferences of people in Luton related to arts and cultural aspects.

The final image of the device being used on site.

After testing it on site and used by the users which are the people of Luton, a map was created to illustrate the results and observations.

PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOL

Transect walk.

For this performing arts school project, the idea was to build a community center that can help the people in Nicosia, Cyprus to reconcile. This is initiated because of the long tension that exists among the two sides of Cyprus which is the Greek Cypriots from the South and Turkish Cypriots from the North Cyprus.
