1. G rowth Area Station Project

3. North West Rail Link / Metro

Provision of four new stations located in key growth areas developed and constructed as part of Melbourne’s metropolitan passenger system network expansion. WorleyParsons delivered integrated rail engineering from concept through to detail design and provision of construction phase services, including track alignment, geotechnical, rail formation, earthworks, drainage, overhead power, signaling and communications.

Detailed Design engineering for both lines including the design of underground and surface stations, tunnels, modification of potable water and sewerage services, cadastre of public services, traffic deviations and road modifications.

Technical Advisor for signalling, train operations and train control.

Victorian State Government Melbourne, Australia

Key Achievement At Williams Landing, innovative construction solutions were developed to facilitate ease of construction in an operational railway environment, including specialist design solution for launching the access bridge into position.

Metro S.A. Santiago, Chile

Key Achievement Successfully designed the complex interfaces between the new lines and existing lines where transfer station designs were required with particular attention to the requirements for construction in an operational environment.

Transport for NSW Sydney, Australia

WorleyParsons provided a dedicated team to process and address concerns and issues arising from field investigations and other site-based teams. Focusing on control interface matters with key stakeholders and other technical advisors, WorleyParsons was able to successfully manage system-wide assurance issues. Key Achievement The design documentation produced became the baseline for Sydney Metro, and other Sydney - based Metropolitan Rail system projects.


4. N anjing Metro Line 2 Project Nanjing Metro Nanjing, China

WorleyParsons applied a system engineering approach, focusing on operational readiness, to provide services including: risk assessment and management, failure mode analysis and prediction, system interface management, test plan assessment, test and commissioning support, and witnessing critical testing procedures. The team reviewed the approach to the project, submitting its operational readiness report to a peer review group which consisted of rail experts from Beijing Metro, Shanghai Metro and Guangzhou Metro. Key Achievements WorleyParsons made recommendations on commissioning, interface management among suppliers and mitigation measures against commissioning risks. As a result of implementing WorleyParsons recommendations, Nanjing Line 2 was commissioned successfully and opened for revenue operations on-time.

5. Singapore Circle Line 4 & 5

Singapore Land Transport Authority Singapore

The Circle Line is a fully underground orbital line linking all radial rail lines leading to the city. Lines 4 & 5 consist of the complete construction of four underground stations and approximately 3.4km of twin bored tunnels including cross-over points, emergency siding facilities and permanent emergency escape shafts. WorleyParsons provided construction management services, and engineering and technical staff comprised of project engineers and technical officers for the supervision of the construction of the underground stations, bored tunnels and all ancillary civil works. Key Achievements WorleyParsons was able to introduce advanced safety auditing and specialist independent technical advice on geotechnical and tunnelling issues.

6. Kazakhstan-Almaty Light Rail Train Feasibility Study

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Almaty, Kazakhstan

WorleyParsons completed the development of the technical feasibility study of the Almaty Light Rail Train (LRT), for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). WorleyParsons assessed the technical feasibility of an electric LRT line along an initial 14.2km route. The feasibility study included both a technical Transit System Recommendations report, and an assessment of environmental and social impact (ESIA) for construction and operation of LRT lines in Almaty. Key Achievement WorleyParsons successfully completed stakeholder consultation; environmental and social impact assessment; transport model forecast update; assessment of technical feasibility in terms of alignment, operations including rolling stock, depot/workshop, electrical and mechanical, ticketing systems, tariff structures and route licensing; project cost estimates; economic evaluation; project implementation and operating arrangements.

7. W aratah EMU PP Project Downer EDI Rail New South Wales, Australia

EDI rail engaged WorleyParsons for several roles on the Waratah EMU PP Project: • Lead Engineer – Fire Engineering, Bogie, Traction and Access Systems. Preparation of Technical Specifications, Calculations, and Testing & Commissioning documents. • Undertaking of train and systems type testing, and preparation of test reports. • Liaison with suppliers, customer & regulatory body. • On-site technical support during manufacturing, testing and commissioning phases. Key Achievement WorleyParsons involvement during the critical design review phase of the project was instrumental in the successful completion of the vehicle systems type testing activities.

9. Comeng Melbourne Suburban Train Refurbishment

The objective of RRL is to separate regional trains from metropolitan trains through the suburban system from Sunshine to Southern Cross Station, increasing capacity and reliability. WorleyParsons provided services to undertake design reviews for civil, track and signalling disciplines to ensure:

WorleyParsons was engaged by Alstom to assistance with the refurbishment program of Hillside’s fleet of Comeng Trains. WorleyParsons provided the detailed design and related engineering services for the refurbishment, including:

• Compliance against the Project Briefs / Scope & Technical Requirements and V/Line Standards; • Whole of life consideration have been addressed in the designs; and • Reliability / Availability / Maintainability / Safety (RAMS) considerations had been addressed. Key Achievement WorleyParsons proactive interaction with V/Line Infrastructure and Operation’s disciplines ensured that all Issued for Construction (IFC) designs were compliant with V/ Line’s operational requirements and technical standards prior to construction activities commencing.

10. Southern Cross Station Redevelopment (SCSR) Project

Southern Cross Station Authority (SCSA) Melbourne, Australia

The Southern Cross Station Redevelopment Project was a joint venture between the state of Victoria and Civic Nexus. WorleyParsons provided project management skills and practices to assist the SCSA in delivering the SCSR project for the State Government of Victoria. The WorleyParsons’ team was engaged to inject impartial strategic project and program management services into the integrated project team. WorleyParsons acted as a conduit for communication between the government, contractors and the concessionaire which had become strained due to the contractual positioning of the parties involved Key Achievements WorleyParsons streamlined the approvals processes, aided and facilitated the negotiation of the processes around the time critical activities, such as track occupations.

11. Perth City Link Rail Project

Public Transport Authority Perth, Australia

The PTA needed to lower the Fremantle rail lines into a cut and cover tunnel structure as part of the greater Perth City Link project. WorleyParsons undertook a critical review of available data in and around the Perth railyard, collating large amounts of ground and groundwater data from past investigations. Through the assimilation of new and existing data a detailed engineering geological model was developed for the site. WorleyParsons carried out tunnel inspections, a review of the tunnel construction process and a benchmarking study with similar projects internationally. 2D and 3D finite element studies were conducted to examine the effects of the proposed development and recommendations for construction were made. Key Achievement Successfully developed methodology to alleviate potential detrimental effects on the Joondalup bored tunnels caused by the Fremantle lines cut and cover tunnel.

12. Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) Light Rail Transit (LRT) Concept Design Study Department of Transport Mirrabooka, Perth

WorleyParsons completed the concept design for the alignment of the MAX LRT through the Mirrabooka Interchange and Yirrigan Drive corridors in Mirrabooka The project has also involved consultation with the Department of Transport, Department of Planning and City of Stirling in relation to the alignment of the proposed MAX LRT. The study area included the key transport hub of Mirrabooka Bus Station, the key retail area of Mirrabooka Shopping Centre and public open space of Mirrabooka Town Square. Key Achievement WorleyParsons managed demands and issues relating to complex land use and transport interactions; with the use of public transport as a driver to achieve regeneration goals in parallel with dealing with a range of different stakeholder project objectives.
