Research or development conducted during developmental aid projects in rural areas of Sub- Saharan Africa, especially in smaller communities, can only be of benefit for a very limited time Mostly, projects are focused on one or few specific aspects, such as improving water quality, providing novel gear or implementing new technologies. These, on their own, do not take into account the value chain, which is important for the development of a sustainable local economy.
