Business Delegation to Baghdad, Iraq 8-12

December 2024 (new dates)

The Arab-Hellenic Chamber, in close coordination with the Embassy of Iraq in Athens and the Union of Chambers of Commerce of Iraq, which it has the privilege of representing in Greece, announces the organization of a business mission in Baghdad, Iraq, from December 8 to 12 (new dates).

Due to our cooperation with the afore-mentioned entities, the participants will have intensive business meetings with prominent Iraqi entrepreneurs, each in their fields of interest. The Arab-Greek Chamber has the necessary know-how, database and network to help Greek businessmen open channels of communication and cooperation and strengthen their presence, services and/or exports in the Iraqi market.

Iraq is potentially one of the richest countries with vast reserves of natural resources, a market of 41 million, a promising economy and opportunities for business partnerships in all fields of activity.

The business mission coincides with a planned visit of the Greek Secretary General of International Economic Relations, Mr. Dimitris Skalkos, in Iraq, who will join the Chamber’s delegation at the opening of our business meetings in Baghdad.

Whether Iraq is a familiar destination or a new market for your company, don’t miss the opportunity to join us on this unique Arab-Hellenic Chamber signature journey!

Dear Reader,

This year, 2024, marks a significant milestone - the 45th anniversary of the ArabHellenic Chamber's establishment. As we celebrate this occasion, we take a moment to honour the visionary Founders and pioneers who paved the way for our success. Their tireless efforts and foresight have been instrumental in shaping the Chamber's continued growth and esteemed reputation. Today, the Arab-Hellenic Chamber proudly stands as a beacon of quality, distinguished among the prominent joint chambers operating in Greece.

We are deeply grateful for the steadfast support of the Union of Arab Chambers, the Council of Arab Ambassadors, and the Greek authorities, whose collaborative efforts have been instrumental in our growth. As we strive for excellence, we remain steadfastly committed to the core foundation of our Chamber: fostering stronger Arab-Greek relations across all business spheres.

The past two years have been a testament to our commitment to excellence, marked by a significant rise in business activity. We have strategically shifted our focus towards sector-specific events, designed to spotlight key industries that drive our economies and bilateral commercial relations. This approach was exemplified by the success of the "1st Arab-Hellenic Maritime Conference" on July 5th, 2023, and the "1st Arab-Hellenic Health Conference" on May 23rd , 2024. Both events drew high-level participation from Greece and 17 Arab countries, enjoying a diverse and impressive attendance.

This issue coincides with the "13th Arab-Hellenic Economic Forum," a premier event that shines a spotlight on two pillars of strategic significance: energy and construction, along with their respective subsectors. As we gather esteemed contributors and attendees, we are confident that we are reaching new heights and adding another triumph to our legacy. We are optimistic as we look forward to the culmination of the 13th Forum's deliberations, discussions, and business meetings, which we hope will yield a great success in bridging the gap between Arab and Greek business leaders.

As we bring the "13th Arab-Hellenic Economic Forum" to a close, we will culminate the event with a Gala Dinner, a fitting tribute to the visionaries who paved the way for us - our esteemed Founders and Pioneers.

As we reflect on our journey, we are also deeply grateful for the commitment and dedication displayed by our Chamber's staff members at every event. Their efforts have been instrumental in our success, and we take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt appreciation to each, and every one of them.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season, filled with warmth, love, and happiness.

General Outlook

The “13th Arab-Hellenic Economic Forum” which will be convened on November 27-28, 2024, at the Athenaeum Intercontinental Hotel of Athens, Greece, coincides with the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Arab-Hellenic Chamber. It has been, indeed, a very long journey of the Chamber, throughout which it adhered to its commitment to building bridges and opening channels of communication between the Arab and Greek business communities. Its role has been tangible in increasing the trade balance and contributing to the investment flow between the two sides. Over time, the Arab-Hellenic Chamber has acquired a prestigious status and is now considered one of the most dynamic joint chambers operating in Greece.

Due to the strategic importance of energy and construction in the economies of our countries, the 13th Forum will address these two sectors, their sub-sectors and related fields. In terms of energy, it will tackle the production, transmission and distribution of energy, sustainability and environmental impact. In the field of construction, the Forum will focus on infrastructure and reconstruction projects, building materials, architecture and engineering. There is an abundance of opportunities and factors which could enhance the partnership and cooperation between the two sides, some of which are human and natural resources, geographical proximity, and the experience and technical know-how that has been accumulated by both sides throughout the years. During these two days of business meetings, deliberations and networking, the Chamber will commemorate its 45th anniversary with cultural events and a festive Gala dinner.

Participation

The events of the Arab-Hellenic Chamber have always attracted diversified and high-caliber participation from across the Arab World and Greece. The sessions of this Forum will be addressed by high-level officials, businessmen and top executives from both sides.

The Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI)

The Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) is the primary representative of the Qatari private sector. Its principal activities include representing the general interest of the business community, providing information and advice to members, promoting economic development, providing market information and economic statistics, encouraging foreign investment, and facilitating international trade.

Established in 1963 by virtue of the Law No (4), Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry (QCCI) is one of the oldest chambers in the GCC countries. Its main role is to organise business interests and represent the Qatari private sector locally and globally as well as support the country’s economic actors and productivity.

On 29th Nov 2017, His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani issued law No. 23 of 2017 which amended some provisions of the Law No. 11 of 1990 on the establishment of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Qatar Chamber plays a key role in enhancing cooperation between Qatari private sector companies

with their counterparts from other countries from around the world. It also helps companies connect with government entities, as well as acts as a bridge for Qatar-based firms seeking to cooperate with local and international firms.

Its vision revolves around achieving international leadership among the world chambers of commerce in the frame of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and to be the focal point for all world institutions and bodies for any information and data about Qatar's business community and about doing business in one of the most dynamic economies in the world.

The Chamber aims to regulate, represent, defend, and promote the commercial, industrial, and agricultural interests in Qatar and support the national economy and productivity for the advantage of the country in general and the interests of its member companies.

It also strives to support and develop a sustainable business environment for local and foreign businesses,

Mr. Rashed Bin Nasser Al Kaabi, Board Member of Qatar Chamber & 1st Vice President of Arab-Hellenic Chamber
H.E Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassem Bin Mohammed Al Thani Chairman

as well as develop an international trade system and enhance its cooperation relations with other chambers around the world.

Furthermore, it seeks to enhance Qatar’s economy diversification strategy and attract foreign investments and exert all possible efforts to enhance Qatar’s position as an international business centre and an attractive investment destination.

Qatar Chamber in 2023

Last year was a year rife with activities and achievements for the Qatar Chamber, especially following the remarkable success of Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 World Cup. This success came after more than a decade of meticulous preparations at the state level, resulting in numerous benefits and advantages that significantly contributed to the progress of the national economy. These achievements align with the country's commitment to realizing its national vision for 2030. In 2023, the Chamber continued its role in representing and protecting the interests of the private sector and communicating with the relevant authorities in the state. It sought to solve all the challenges that might hinder the private sector's hoped-for role in the country's development process.

Similarly, the Chamber’s Sectoral Committees continued to network and engage with business owners and company representatives to listen to proposals and identify challenges faced by companies in each sector,

working collaboratively to develop effective solutions. Furthermore, the Chamber strengthened its digital structure and developed its programs to modernize the services it provides to the business community and simplify matters for its members and its affiliated companies and institutions.

The Chamber also continued to equip its new headquarters on the "Boulevard" in Lusail, indicating that the transfer to the new building is expected to take place soon.

In 2023, the Chamber issued 92529 transactions (electronic and non-electronic), 46984 certificates of origin, including 40879 electronic certificates and 6105 non-electronic certificates.

It also issued 5 ATA carnet, and 25 TIR Carnets ‘Transports Internationaux Routiers or (International Road Transport)’, pointing out that the total number of QC members until the end of December reached 84840 members, with 5708 new affiliates joining.

Qatar and Greece … Close Relations & Promising Future

The State of Qatar and the Hellenic Republic enjoy close and distinguished relations in all fields, especially in the economic and commercial aspects. Both countries are keen to enhance their economic and trade ties at all levels.

Relations between both countries are witnessing a remarkable development in light of the efforts of the two countries to strengthen them in various fields and in line with the interests of the two friendly countries. This is evidenced by meetings between officials in both countries and the exchange of high-level official visits, in addition to the number of agreements and MOUs signed between them in various fields.

Joint effort is also being made in other fields with a view to broadening the scope of bilateral cooperation through the exploration of possibilities for the two countries to fully exploit the existing potential, which is abundant on both sides.

Alexandroupolis at the Forefront of Energy Discussions: Visit of Ambassadors from Arab States to the Alexandroupolis LNG Terminal

On Monday, November 18, the Alexandroupolis Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal welcomed a delegation of Ambassadors and Diplomats from ten Arab countries, including the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Iraq, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the State of Kuwait, Lebanon, the Kingdom of Morocco, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Sudan, and the Republic of Tunisia. Accompanied by the Secretary General of the Arab Hellenic Chamber, the delegation underscored the keen interest from Arab states in exploring new energy connectivity opportunities between the Mediterranean and Europe through Greece, with Alexandroupolis emerging as a vital gas hub.

During the visit, the Ambassadors were briefed on the state-of-the-art technologies employed by the Terminal

and the strict environmental standards adhered to in every phase of its operations. Senior FSRU officials highlighted the innovative nature of the project, which represents a major node in Europe’s energy supply chain.

The "Vertical Corridor," a strategic energy initiative linking Greece to Central and Southeastern Europe was in the heart of the discussions. In conjunction with the FSRU Alexandroupolis, which serves as a critical entry point to the Vertical Corridor, a new energy supply route is being created, enabling the safe, competitive and efficient distribution of natural gas from the Mediterranean to Europe. This corridor encompasses not only Greece but also Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Moldova, and Ukraine to the east, as well as Hungary and Slovakia to the west. The Vertical Corridor initiative enhances the region’s energy security and provides an alternative pathway to address today’s energy challenges, reducing dependence on Russian natural gas and opening new markets for major LNG producers in the Arab countries.

Commenting on the occasion, the Managing Director of Gastrade, Mr. Kostis Sifnaios, stated:

“The visit of the Ambassadors from the Arab states to the FSRU Alexandroupolis provided a valuable opportunity to explore the integration of LNG produced in the Arab world into our Terminal’s operations, which

commenced commercial activity on October 1, 2024. The geographic proximity of LNG production units in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Gulf to Alexandroupolis offers significant competitive advantages and lays the groundwork for establishing a robust strategic partnership. We sincerely thank the Ambassadors for the open and constructive dialogue, and we look forward to a long-term, mutually beneficial collaboration with their countries.”

This visit confirms the strong prospects for developing energy partnerships between Greece and Arab countries, reinforcing a shared commitment to a secure, sustainable and diversified energy future for the entire region.

14th Arab-Austrian Economic Forum & Exhibition

High-level Ministerial attendance and Future of Renewable Energy

The doors to the 14th Arab-Austrian Economic Forum and Exhibition opened on Wednesday, 23rd October, signaling the start of a dynamic day filled with forwardthinking dialogue and invaluable exchanges.

Distinguished guests from Austria and across the Arab world were welcomed by the resonant strains of the Austrian National Anthem, setting an inspiring tone. The event began with a special video message from H.E. Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen, the President of Austria.

Following the President’s message, DI Omar Al-Rawi, Member of the Vienna Provincial Parliament and City Council, addressed the gathering on behalf of Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig. Al-Rawi underscored the role of the City of Vienna in advancing smart city initiatives and renewable energy projects, presenting Vienna as a model example of modern energy solutions in urban construction and infrastructure development.

Subsequently, H.E. Dr. Werner Fasslabend, Austrian President of the AACC, took the stage to acknowledge both the historical and economic ties shared by Austria and the Arab nations, emphasizing the forum’s potential to further solidify these connections.

In a sequence of high-level addresses, H.E. Dr. Hassan Khaddour, Designated President of the Arab Ambassadors Council, and Dr. Martin Kocher, Austria's Federal Minister for Labour and Economy, elaborated on the opportunities for growth and mutual benefit in key sectors. Following Dr. Kocher’s remarks, Mag. Florian Frauscher from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs took the floor, sharing a lighthearted note by mentioning that his former minister, Margarete Schramböck, had recently relocated to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Frauscher emphasized Austria’s commitment to collaborative efforts with Arab delegations across various sectors, particularly in energy,

underscoring the country’s interest in fostering economic partnerships with the Arab world.

The forum’s opening, moderated by S.G. Moudar Khouja, was a well-coordinated display of visionary leadership, setting the stage for a day rich with sector-specific insights.

The forum’s keynote address by Mr. Said Taufik Ridha from the OPEC Fund shifted the focus to energy investment, unveiling strategic opportunities in a rapidly evolving landscape. The following panel on "Investments in Energy" saw experts from OMV, Saudi Arabia, and Mauritania discussing energy’s pivotal role in fostering economic growth and regional stability.

After a networking lunch, the forum resumed with an exploration of "Energy and Renewable Energy," bringing to the forefront innovative insights into sustainable energy solutions. H.E. Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of OPEC, provided a message that underscored the complex nature of the global energy landscape, saying:

"In our approach to energy, we must adopt an ‘all and all’ strategy, recognizing that no single energy source can meet future demand alone. OPEC's recent World Oil Outlook 2024 highlights a 24% rise in global energy demand by 2050. Balancing oil demand with renewable energy investments is essential for both economic stability and sustainability. OPEC member countries, including those in the Arab world, are leading investments in renewables, low-emission solutions, and technologies like carbon capture. Together, we can shape a future that prioritizes both energy accessibility and environmental responsibility."

among them representatives from the Libyan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Libyan Ministry for Oil and Gas (OPEC), and Studio Legale de Capoa. The President of the Austrian Libyan Association also provided valuable input, further underlining Libya’s strategic sectors with high potential for Austrian-Arab investment and collaboration.

Esteemed speakers including Dr. Nazir Aboud Faza, representatives from Daclab, Oliver Obrist, Dr. Chandrasekhar Ramakrishnan, and Dr. Bernard Stöckl shared pioneering projects in renewable energy, carbon economy, and e-fuel technology.

From 3:00 to 4:00 pm, the forum featured a special Showcase of Libya, focusing on the wealth of economic opportunities for engagement within the country. Chaired by H.E. Dr. Khaled Hanafy, the session included insightful presentations from key Libyan organizations and officials,

The showcase underscored Libya’s rich resources and highlighted critical industries that could benefit from new partnerships, creating enthusiasm among participants about the avenues for economic cooperation. The forum concluded at 4:00 pm, leaving attendees with fresh perspectives, new connections, and a reinforced commitment to fostering Austro-Arab collaboration and sustainable growth in Libya and beyond.

The Secretary General of the Arab-Hellenic Chamber, Mr. Rashad Mabger, who attended this prestigious event, congratulates his colleague, Mr. Mouddar Khouja, for another excellent Forum.

Congratulations to Louai Kuzbari

On October 23, the General Assembly of the Austro-Arab Chamber of Commerce (AACC) held its annual meeting, during which Mr. Louai Nabil Kuzbari was unanimously elected as the Arab President of the Chamber.

Mr. Kuzbari's election to this esteemed position brings fresh energy and perspective to our sister Chamber among Austria's network of chambers. Over the past 35 years, the Austro-Arab Chamber of Commerce has firmly established itself as a cornerstone for fostering Austro-Arab relations across all areas of business and trade.

It is worth highlighting that this election signifies a continuation of the AACC's enduring strength for two key reasons. First, Mr. Louai Kuzbari’s election builds on the legacy of his father, Nabil Kuzbari, who founded the Chamber in 1989 and guided it to flourish both in Austria and the Arab world. Second, Louai is a well-recognized figure among Austrian and Arab business circles, bringing significant value to his leadership of the Chamber. Together with our esteemed Secretary General, Mouddar Khouja, their combined efforts promise to elevate the Chamber to new heights of success and influence.

Louai Kuzbari holds an MBA and serves as the CEO of Vimpex Handelsges.m.b.H., as well as the Managing Director of Gimpex, Gulf Import-Export Dubai. In addition to these roles, he is actively involved in various business ventures and professional associations.

He is married and has three sons and one daughter.

At the Arab-Hellenic Chamber, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Louai Kuzbari on this well-deserved vote of confidence. We also take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to working closely with Mouddar Khouja in pursuit of the shared goals of our two Chambers.

Congratulations, Louai!

Wishing you every success in this new role.
