A Memorable
Chilean Nationals
by ROGERIO SANTOS
The beautiful and amenable Garden of the Military School of Santiago was the site of this year’s 22nd Chilean Nationals. The high energy emanating from the breeders, the response from the public, the excellent fish and Chilean wines, the sunny days with balmy temperatures, the high standard of hotels and restaurants, and especially the horses, made the weekend of April 12-13 a memorable nationals. More than 30 breeders showed around 80 horses that were judged in halter by Janice McCrea from the United States, and Lenita Perroy and Fabio Amorosino from Brazil. The Chilean breeders are very much in touch with what goes on in the Arabian horse world. They are constantly
importing horses, especially from the United States and Brazil, and take very seriously how to improve and develop their breeding programs. The world is familiar with two extraordinary Chilean mares, the American National Champion San Jose Javiera, and the beautiful World Breeders Cup Champion LL Beauty Dream. In the ring, the judges pointed to Bey Shah’s bloodline, as the most influential strain at this Nationals. His greatgrandson, LC Farid, belonging to Haras Panquehue and SanGreVal, was the uncontested sire, winning half of the main awards. Two others were the Brazilian Hafati Express, by *RSD Dark Victory, and Bey Shadow TGS, by *Shahllenger.
