estled in the Austrian foothills, Wels is home to the Austrian National Championships and International Show, the kickoff to the European show season. Both the International and National Finals draw from the same qualifying classes on Saturday, streamlining the event to two days, with the Finals being held on Sunday. The Austrian Nationals were nearly swept by Hanaya Arabian Stud. Their Israeli-bred Wadad Zamani was extremely impressive, wowing the judges and spectators alike as Gold Champion Senior Mare. A close second was her stablemate Bint Tahanie, who brought home the silver. The

same result occurred in the International finals, with Wadad Zamani earning 92 points to Bint Tahanie’s 91.88. Wadad Zamani was also named the Best Egyptian Horse at the International Show. Hanaya Farfoura, a homebred by Hanaya’s hot young stallion Kenz Al Baydaa, won the Austrian National Junior Filly Championship, with her half-sister Hanaya Jazeebah, also by Kenz Al Baydaa, earning the silver. Austrian National Junior Champion Colt honors went to Al Nadir, bred and owned by Gerhard Huber; and Hanaya Labid brought home the silver championship for owner/breeder Hanaya Arabian Stud.

Rounding out the Austrian Nationals, Marjan Albidayer was the Gold Champion Stallion. He is bred by Albidayer Stud and owned by the Marjan Syndicate. Marjon had earlier earned the silver award at the International Show, placing second to Espressivo, a QR Marc son owned and bred by Knocke Arabians of Belgium. Knocke scored two gold championships at the International Show, the second going to Gold Champion Junior Filly Sylvatica KA, also by QR Marc. The Polish-bred Ekstern daughter, Wersa,

earned silver in that class. Another multiple winning farm was the Dubai Stud, who made an impressive showing in the yearling classes. Dubai Stud homebreds D Safana and D Heba won the gold and silver championships for Yearling Fillies, and D Karrar collected the silver for Yearling Colts behind Gold Champion AJ Azzam, owned and bred by Ajman Stud. The extremely high caliber of the entries, from all over Europe and the Middle East, bodes well for an extremely exciting show season to come.

International Gold Champion Senior Stallion ESPRESSIVO (QR Marc x Emocja), bred and owned by Paul Gheysens.

National Gold Champion Senior Mare WADAD ZAMANI (Laheeb x Zena Al Buraq), bred by Muhammad Alkasaasi and owned by Nayla Hayek.
