An Early Holiday Gift—Paris In December What is better than attending a horse show in Paris during the holiday season? Okay, I admit, that’s a First World question. There are many things more important than being in Paris for the Salon du Cheval (achieving global peace and finding a cure for cancer come to mind, but they’re beyond my scope). In my business, being in Paris in late fall has been a constant for some time, and this year, I’m disappointed that for family reasons, I’ll have to miss the World Championships. I urge any Arabian horse lover who has not attended the Salon to plan a trip. Maybe it’s not convenient for your calendar or budget now, but make sure to put it on your bucket list and do it sooner than later. First, of course, there are the world class horses you see there; top American horses have long competed in Paris, making this show an extraordinary opportunity to compare the type and quality of representatives from many different countries. Second, the show’s ambience is just unbeatable. For decades, conventional wisdom has said that the English are the best at pageantry—and they are incredible. But if you’ve ever attended the Salon, you know that the French have a style of their own, and when they turn on the “pomp and circumstance,” they are experts. Every time the music comes up before the classes, I get a tingle, because it clearly announces that the horses to come are royalty. Everyone in the arena can feel important because they have the privilege of being there, to be seeing great Arabians. To me, the awarding of the championships on the final Sunday is especially thrilling. If you go, I hope you will agree with me that while the Salon du Cheval doesn’t draw the number of Arabian horse exhibitors that many of the world’s other signature shows do, that doesn’t matter. It has so many of the best of the best, and it is all about celebrating the Arabian breed.

If that’s not enough for you, just count in the other benefits of Paris which can be enjoyed if you add a day or two to your trip—the shops, the restaurants, the fashion, the atmosphere of one of the world’s great cities, all against a backdrop of glittering Christmas lights and decorations. It’s magical.

xtraordinary stallions require extraordinary support, and El Tino, owned by Black Stallion, LLC, is one of those. Proven in the show ring (Brazilian National Champion) and in the barn (his progeny have won national and international championship titles in Brazil and around the world), El Tino is a very special individual who passes on his exquisite refinement, classic type, captivating charisma, and bold movement with remarkable consistency.
The acquisition of El Tino was a dream come true. And along with that dream, came a deep commitment to helping him reach his destiny as a sire of historic importance, and to share his extraordinary qualities with the world. To fulfill his destiny, an unparalleled team of international professionals was created. Each member of this dedicated team, spread throughout North America, South America, Europe, and the Middle East, bring their expertise and professionalism as leading breeders, top trainers, and marketing experts, to bring their plans for El Tino to fruition.
GUARDIAN AS (*El Tino x SW Victoria) Breeder/Owner: Dan & Maureen Grossman, USA
El Tino stands at Royal Arabians, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Owned by Cindy McGown and Mark Davis, they are dedicated breeders who deeply believe in El Tino and have given him 100% of their support, including having mares in foal to El Tino, and owning his fabulous son, Royal Asad, who is also a champion and sire of champions. El Tino’s team at Royal Arabians includes internationally respected horsemen Rodolfo Guzzo, Travis Rice and Johnny Downing. “El Tino’s foals are absolutely stunning,” states Rodolfo. “There is an incredible demand for his services worldwide and it’s quickly increasing. Recently, several top El Tino progeny were purchased by breeders in the United States and Saudi Arabia where they will be wonderful representatives of their sire and no doubt, will become valuable assets to their new owners’ show and breeding programs. It’s hard to believe, but El Tino is already a grandsire. His sons and daughters are now producing the next generation of national champions. His influence is growing incredibly fast.”
Ar abian Horse Times | 11 | PAR IS
Cesar Schmidt is El Tino’s South American representative. Many breeders there have used El Tino with great success for years, and with the overwhelming achievements of his breathtaking offspring at the 2019 Brazilian National Championships, the demand for him will only increase. Seven El Tino sons and daughters earned some of the most prestigious titles at this year’s Brazilian National Championships. Three of his sons and two of his daughters were named Brazilian National Gold Champion, and one son and one daughter earned Silver. With results like these, it was no surprise El Tino was named Brazilian National Leading Sire of Champions, as well Leading Sire of Champions at the Brazilian Breeders Cup, both for three years, making him one of the most important sires to come out of Brazil in recent years.

In Europe and the Middle East, Tom and Glenn Schoukens of Schoukens Training Center in Belgium, represent El Tino. Through their travels to the U.S., Mexico and South America, judging and evaluating horses, El Tino’s sons and daughters stood out. “El Tino stamps his offspring with his quality, type, beautiful structure and show horse charisma. Not only are
they winning top honors at prestigious shows, but they’re also proving they are valuable breeding horses too.” Next on the list of goals is to have El Tino’s semen registered and approved for Australia. With work underway, it won’t be long before that goal is achieved.

Breeder: PCF Arabians, USA Owner Luciano Cury, Brazil The world of Arabian horses is one of great passion. Breeders strive to create special foals able to make a lasting impact. However, when a stallion comes from such a historically influential sire line as El Tino does, the standard is so high, it seems almost impossible to equal or exceed his predecessor’s achievements. These are only a few of the iconic sires and dams that live on through El Tino and his descendants, the likes of DA Valentino, Versace, Fame VF and Bey Shah. This litany of champions and champion producers is only a hint at the depth and value of his precious bloodlines. Among all the names in El Tino’s pedigree are even more legends of the breed. Now, with the support of his appointed advocates and the divine hand that guides us all, the great El Tino is taking his rightful place with his ancestors, because he too, is already a legend.

by THERESA CARDAMONE After a twenty-plus-year hiatus from horses, Joe and Kim Orr traveled the world, learning from generous mentors and developing a strategic plan for the nucleus of a breeding program at their Rose City Arabians in Ridgefield, WA. They noticed a common factor among the farms that they visited; whether small or large, there were never more than a handful of consistently champion-producing mares. They took that observation to heart, opting to buy only the finest, proven mares. “We’d like to have no more than five high-quality, world-champion-producing mares,” Joe Orr explains. “Being such a small farm, and being a little later in life ourselves, we thought we should find mares that had already produced national or world champions. The first that we acquired was Ghazala El Jamaal. She is a very special mare. We appreciate what her breeder and former owners have done for her. Now, we are honored to have her in our barn and share our lives with her.”

International Campion and Dam of Excellence Ghazala is an elegantly beautiful daughter of Marwan Al Shaqab and Foxbriar Parysel. Bred in the United States by Marlene Rieder, Ghazala El Jamaal was exported to Australia while she was still a youngster. There, she developed into a “vision of perfection” in the show ring and also became an outstanding producer before her re-importation to America. In tribute to her exemplary qualities, Ghazala El Jamaal is the first mare to be honored as a “Dam of

The Mystery Of QR CODES ... What Are QR Codes? They come to us from Japan where they are very common. QR is short for “Quick Response” (they can be read quickly by a cell phone). They are used to take a piece of information from a transitory media and put it into your cell phone. You may see QR Codes in magazine adverts, on billboards, a web page or even on someone’s t-shirt. When the code is scanned, it gives you details about a business, a link to videos, websites or coupons that can be used at stores.
Where Do You Get A QR Code Reader? First you need to have a smartphone or a tablet equipped with a camera. Next you will need to download an app for your phone/tablet to be able to scan the QR Codes. QR Code Reader can be found in the App Store or by searching for QR Code Readers online; there are several to choose from.
How Do You Scan A QR Code? Once you have the QR Code Reader app on your phone/tablet, it’s easy! You open the app and hold the phone/tablet above the QR code so that it’s clearly visible within your screen. Two things can happen: it will automatically scan the code, or with some readers, you have to press a button to snap a picture of it. It will then read the code and take you to a website, video, coupon, etc.
How Can You Use A QR Code? QR codes can be used in a number of ways. You can use them for your farm, stallion(s) or business, no matter how small or large. They can link to your Farm’s website, your stallion’s show record, video or link to promotional photos; or a business can link popular products and how to purchase them. QR Codes can be added to print advertising, stallion cards, flyers, event invites, business cards, etc.

“As one of the halter judges, a couple of things I noticed were the positive energy, camaraderie, and sportsmanship within the halter arena. As well as the entertainment factor that was provided to help the spectators have a good time. The quality of horses at the Nationals is always at a high level and the depth of the classes exceeded expectations. It’s always great to have unanimous champions with the judges in sync, but it’s also encouraging to see classes where judges have variety because it shows that any one of several horses could have been a champion. There are a few memorable highlights for me. One is having the opportunity to judge a world champion mare like Perfinka who was shown throughout Europe. To be able to judge such a well-traveled international beautiful mare here in the U.S. is such an honor. Also, the Half-Arabian Amateur Geldings class was fun because there were several national champions and the quality was really great. There were many classes that were exciting to judge, like the Junior Mares. It was an in-depth class where any one of the six or seven horses could have been national champion. The Yearling Fillies were also beautiful. Rounding up even with the Futurity Colts National Champion shown by Rodolfo Guzzo, three different horses had a first on each of our judges’ cards. Overall, I left this year’s U.S. Nationals with a wonderful impression, not just because of the quality of the horses that competed, but also because of the hard work that was put in towards making the show fair, positive, competitive and entertaining for the spectators. I would personally like to thank the breeders, owners, handlers, and my fellow judges (Terry and Steve) for making the 2019 U.S Nationals such a great show!” —Joseph Polo, In-Hand Halter Judge Ar abian Horse Times | 64 | PAR IS
“Congratulations to all the winners in each division as it promotes everyone’s hard work in getting the horse to that performance and the time spent by all involved in that win and accomplishment.” —Steve Lieblang, In-Hand Halter Judge

The 2019 MAHB Fall Festival MN State Fairgrounds, St. Paul, MN | September 27-29, 2019
A
rabian Horse Fans,
Once again, the Minnesota Arabian Horse Breeders’ Fall Festival was a huge success. MAHB’s Board, Officers and Show Manager worked all year to make this the best Fall Fest ever and we are excited to announce that you have responded favorably to all our efforts. THE 2019 SHOW WAS UP 18% IN NUMBERS OF HORSES ENTERED AND AN ASTOUNDING 54% IN NUMBERS OF RIDES. Now that’s a success any way you measure it!
We welcomed competitors, horse owners and those who are new to the breed to visit the barns and the show ring to see some of the finest Arabian horses in the U.S. We had a special treat on Friday when some of our “old timers” were able to join us at the show and enjoy a lunch and the opportunity to see Arabians showing. The mid 1950’s thru the 60’s Minnesota Arabian Horse Assoc. was the only Arabian club in Minnesota and those members were a close-knit bunch. For many of them it had been years since they were able to make it to a horse show, but thanks to the generosity of Anita Anderson Grant, who orchestrated the outing and Lori Conway and MAHA who provided the lunch, a spectacular time was had by all. Joining us were Anita Anderson Grant, Ruby Stoklasa, Carol Carbonell (founding MAHA member), Mikey Hay, Patricia Fischer, Maxine Luger Gallett, Jerry Aldritt, Becky Bell, Jim Stepanick, Wayne Thompson, Barb & Dick Kiesner and Virg & Suzette Johnson.

Minnesota Breeders sponsored a successful silent auction in support of the All Glory Project- Therapeutic Riding Programs for Veterans in Minnesota & Wisconsin in collaboration with Horses for Humanity – The “Goldie” Project. It seems as if we had food everywhere. A chili feed lunch, wild rice soup lunch and a pulled pork dinner was provided for our guests by MAHB who also kept the coffee, doughnuts and snack buffet running throughout the show. A stallion presentation in the barn provided a beautiful buffet sponsored by Greymoor Farm. Purina® hosted a discussion on the proper feeding of youngsters, broodmares, performance horses and seniors. Thanks to all our show volunteers for their involvement in making this one of the finest shows to date. Special thanks to the MAHB Board and Officers: Lollie Ames, Ann Benson, Lori Conway, Penny Gute, Beth Proctor, Deb Treadwell and Mike Van Handel. A special thank you to our Show Manager Greg Brown and his tireless assistant Mary Brown. They keept everything on time and running smoothly. Our volunteers work tirelessly all year to make this show happen. And we are already working on new ideas and improvements for next year’s show. See you then!
Sincerely, Donna Hentges, President Minnesota Arabian Horse Breeders, Inc.

Haras Das Cascatas T h e Po w e r o f P a s s i o n
Lyg ia, Alessandra, and Adr iana Moura of Haras Das Cascatas
“Our family has always loved country life. Although we lived in São Paulo, the biggest city in Brazil, we always spent weekends in the country. In 1980, our parents bought a farm named
Haras das Cascatas near Atibaia, São Paulo. At that time, we liked horses very much, but when we met Arabians with their beauty and charisma, it was love – no, it was passion – at first sight.

We began breeding horses in 1982. We bought an Arabian stallion named Hajed and two Half-Arabian mares. One of these mares, Dukka, produced a foal we named Asfar, who became our first show horse and produced five-time Brazilian National Champion Sheik Em Chaluf RB. With this success, our passion grew. We bought our first purebred mares, and breeding horses became the joy of our lives.
Their physical and emotional well-being is our top priority. We try to offer them the best of everything, beginning with love and respect, and treat each one as an individual. Living with our mares on a daily basis teaches us their strengths and potential, which helps us to choose the
We chose the suffix “RB” for our horses in honor of our dear father, Reynaldo Barbosa, because he always encouraged us to pursue our dreams. When our father passed away in 1989, we and our mother, Lygia, moved to the farm. At this difficult time, we reduced our herd to only three mares. Then, in 1992, we won a colt named Nyzzak HCF (Almaden x Rezella, by Amal) from Polé Levy of Haras Capim Fino. Nyzzak produced beautiful foals for us, and around 1995, we resumed breeding activities and participating in exhibitions.

stallions we think will be the ideal cross for them and produce the best foal. We have used internationally prominent stallions such as Marwan Al Shaqab, Ajman Moniscione, QR Marc, SF Veraz, Bey Ambition, Shiraz de Lafon, Kanz Albidayer and Fadi Al Shaqab, among others.
We strive to raise Arabian horses with classic type, a beautiful head, big and prominent eyes, an elegant neck, a strong, athletic body, and charisma, all without losing good movement. Our foundation mares, which were Brazilian and mares of Polish bloodlines, gave us all these special traits. In 1997, one of the greatest influencers of our breeding program was born, SABAH EL KAIR RB (Nyzzak HCF x ALYSHAH NOUVELLE RB). SABAH EL KAIR RB represents the second generation of our program.
She was a successful show filly and became an excellent producer. We exported four of her foals: CHALL ME THE BEST RB (by Don El Chall) went to Argentina; DONNA FANTASTYKAH RB (also by Don El Chall) and POWERFUL GIRL RB (by Power World JQ) both went to the USA; and MAGIC MON AMOUR RB (by OFW Magic Wan) went to Chile. We kept three SABAH EL KAIR RB daughters for breeding; AMIRA BINT SABAH RB (by Borsalino K), LAMI EL SABAH RB (by El Tino), and KHYARA EL KAHIL RB (by Kahil Al Shaqab).

The following are also principle mares of our program ... • ALYSHAH NOUVELLE RB (ZT Shah Ibn Nouvelle x Brumarba MV) was our mother’s favorite mare and we have several of her daughters to continue her important bloodline, including SABAH EL KAIR RB (by Nyzzak HCF) and SYMPHONY RB (by Sirajj UB). • HONEYMOON FHP (NV Sure Fire x An Gazala CH) is the pillar of our farm and the mother of the Brazilian National and U.S. National
Champion HONEY’S DELIGHT RB. We have five Honeymoon FHP daughters to continue her legacy here at our farm, including HONEY’S DESIRE RB (by JJ Senor Magnum), a full sister to National Champion HONEY’S DELIGHT RB. We also have the Honeymoon FHP daughters LAKYSHAH MOON RB (by Sirajj UB) and MAGNUM MOONWISH RB (by Magnum Psyche). • DELIGHT’S MUSA RB (by Ajman Moniscione) is the only daughter of HONEY’S DELIGHT RB to stay in Brazil. She is a full sister to the

Our National Champions...
Although we are small breeders, we have enjoyed international success. Our first great champion, DONNA FANTASTYKAH RB (Don El Chall x SABAH EL KAIR RB) was the third generation of our program. She was named 2006 Brazilian National Reserve Champion Filly—our first national champion—days after she was sold to Robert and Dixie North of North Arabians, and our first export to America. HONEY’S DELIGHT RB (JJ Senor Magnum x Honeymoon FHP) is the highlight of our program. She was unanimous 2012 Brazilian National Champion Mare, and at the same show, her first two daughters also won National titles. ESPERANZZA AL VENTUR (by FA El Shawan) was named National Champion Junior Filly and her sister, DELIGHT’S DIVAH RB (by Ajman Moniscione), was National Reserve Champion Junior Junior Filly. There are no words to describe our emotions and immense pleasure in breeding a mare that is so beautiful as an individual and so special as a mother. In 2013, HONEY’S DELIGHT RB was sold to Jeff Sloan and partners in America. That same year, she became the U.S. National Champion Mare. DELIGHT’S DIVAH RB was sold to Al Sayed Stud of Saudi Arabia. She became an international champion winning Menton Gold Champion and World Bronze Champion.

DELIGHT’S MUSA RB (Ajman Moniscione x HONEY’S DELIGHT RB), full sister to DELIGHT’S DIVAH RB, was retained for our breeding program. She participated in only one show and was named 2014 Brazilian National Silver Champion. She is now a valuable broodmare and produced 2018 Brazilian National Bronze Champion Colt MANSURAT RB (by SF Veraz), purchased by the Al Orasia Stud of Bahrain. We offer our best wishes for their success. DELIGHT’S MUSA RB (Ajman Moniscione x Honey’s Delight RB). MANSURAT RB (SF Veraz x Delight’s Musa RB).

Living Our Dreams... Historically, horse breeding was a masculine environment. However, women have also made many valuable contributions. We truly believe women’s success comes from our acute sensitivity, our ability to see the essence of our horses—their soul. Our advice to other women breeders is to use this gift and always follow your dreams. At Haras Das Cascatas, we are living our dream. We hope it will continue with Gabriel, our next generation, who is very young but already loves our dogs and horses. In this life, challenges are demanding, but we believe the rewards are worth it. We struggled to reach our place in the horse world and we are very grateful for it. We are also grateful for the support and friendship of many breeders who helped us, especially Nelson Moreira, who has been a dear friend and counselor. We are proud of what we have accomplished together and the horses we have bred. In the past, Brazilian breeders imported many important stallions and mares. Adding these bloodlines to those already in Brazil created a hybrid of the breed with a look and style all our own. Brazilian breeders have tremendous passion for our families, our friends and our horses, and we love to share them with other breeders from around the world. If you love Arabian horses, we invite you to visit Brazil and our farm, Haras Das Cascatas.

2019 marked the 38th Anniversary of the Associacio Brasileira dos Criadores de Cavalo Arabe (ABCCA) Brazilian National Championships. Held in the picturesque town of Indaiatuba, it is Brazil at its finest, with lush green rolling hills surrounded by miles of quiet countryside and just outside of Sao Paulo, making access simple for foreign travelers. Brazilian breeders have a fantastic reputation worldwide, having created extraordinary Arabian horses for decades. They have capitalized on using elite bloodlines from across the world to incorporate into their own stock, and this show provided an opportunity to showcase the results. Proof of his influence in the Brazilian market was American super sire DA Valentino (Versace x DA Love) with his son El Tino (x Imprimista CF). Rancho Arabco used his prowess to capture top honors in the Junior Jr Fillies class with Marcelhah Arabco (x RFI Bettina Almaktub) taking the Gold, and Luna HVP (x JR Burmagny) the Silver for HVP Arabians.
Claudio Santos, ABCCA Show Manager and Luciano Cury, ABCCA President.
El Tino, already proving his worth as a sire in the Filly Championships, also sired the Junior Jr Colt Gold Champion, Aswad (x Lumiar Ethna). Significantly, Lumiar Ethna (RFI Maktub x Evening Star TGS) was also shown and named Gold Champion Senior Mare. No stranger to the show arena, among Lumiar Ethna’s list of prestigious titles are 2017 Chile National Champion Mare, 2017 Brazilian National Reserve Champion Mare, and 2013 Brazilian National Champion Young Filly. It is impossible to miss her extreme beauty and high quality, hallmarks of excellent selective breeding on the part of her breeder and owner Haras Panquehue (Bulùes Family) and Haras Aguas

Claras (Herman Chadwick). Her dam, Evening Star TGS (x Lumiar Amadeus) is out of the Varian Hall of Fame mare Promise V (Huckleberry Bey x Pavane V ). The Champion Senior Stallion was born in the United States but has firm Brazilian roots. El Jahez WH was bred by Fred and Mary Widman, successful small breeders from Oregon, and is now owned by the El Jahez Partners. El Jahez WH was exported to Brazil and experienced early success at the Brazilian Nationals in 2012, winning Junior Champion Colt. His bloodlines run deep with Polish and Brazilian powerhouses reflected in his sire Jiuliusz de Wiec, a stunning son of Polish imported stallion *Debowiec (Monogramm x Debowka) and his dam, Chili Pepper V, a daughter of Jullyen El Jamaal. Farm tours are rapidly increasing in popularity as a side benefit to the Brazilian National Championship show, and this year’s tour stops included Haras Vila Dos Pinheiros, Haras Cruzeiro, Haras FT & Wolf Arabians, and Haras JM. Haras Vila Dos Pinheiros (HVP), owned by Jaime Pinheiro, had much to celebrate this year, earning two Silver and four Bronze titles, five of them home-bred, as well as the Magnum Chall HVP (Padrons Psyche x Taamara HVP) daughter, Chrystall Chall JM, bred by Haras JM, who took home Young Filly Silver Champion and now belongs to Al Kaiser Stud. It’s only a matter of time, before they prove their worth among other elites of HVP, such as the 2018 U.S. National Champion Senior Mare, Baviera HVP (Marwan Al Shaqab x HB Bessolea), a full sister to superstar stallions Baanderos and Baahir El Marwan.

Summing up the whole experience was long-time attendee, Walter Mishek: The 2019 Brazilian Nationals was without question, one of the greatest Arabian horse shows ever. I have attended since 1988, and if you have never been to Brazil, put this show and a visit to the breeding farms on your bucket list as a must-do. Four things stand out in my memory of this great show and farm tours ... First, the horses. Incredible depth in every class of superior quality horses graced the arena with wonderful presentations where you could really see and evaluate each horse. Most of the horses were bred by owners that were present, a great testimony to the successful breeding programs of each. Second, the show venue; it was beyond first class. VIP seating, as well as general seating, made watching the show enjoyable. And all around the arena were wonderful restaurants that provided five-star meals and drinks at very reasonable prices; even delivered to your seating area should you desire. Additionally, beautiful shops with Arabian horse items and memorabilia was sold for great gifts to take home. Third, the breeders. The Brazilian people are family. They treat you as such and make sure each of your needs and questions are attended to immediately. Their hospitality is from their hearts and you immediately fall in love with the people and their customs. Finally, the farm tours. The beauty of each participating farm and their horses is outstanding. Meals and drinks were provided to all who wished to attend at no charge and were over the top. Every Arabian horse breeder should aspire to attend the Brazilian National Championship Show. Walter’s parting words sum it up perfectly, “It is an experience that gives everyone a chance to see how a real horse show should be run, and the tours that follow will leave you with memories for a lifetime.”

RANCHO ARABCO RANCHO ARABCO began with a gesture of love. Sylvio Barbosa Neto shares his family’s history with Arabian horses, the success they have achieved with their small but elite breeding program, and his hopes for the future…
THE FARM:
“When I was 14 years old, my father gave me my first Arabian horse. I loved that horse very much. We rode mountain trails together and I loved to gallop him. Unfortunately, he died from a snakebite, which made me very sad, so my father promised to buy me another Arabian horse. He went to São Paulo where he visited some breeders and returned with a stallion and two mares. It was 1982 and with these horses, my father started his breeding program called Haras Allah Dinn. “At that time, Arabian horses in Brazil were on the rise. We met Polé Levi, who encouraged us to breed and participate in shows. My father bought some important mares from Polé, Nagib Audi, and other breeders. We bred for many years, but my father didn’t like to leave the farm and his horses for the shows. His greatest joy was looking out from the balcony of our home and seeing his beautiful mares grazing in the pastures. “Through Polé Levy, I met Zezé Rodrigues who introduced me to western pleasure, and I fell in love with the sport. I began training western horses and took some to the shows. We were very small breeders, but I won a lot in the Western Pleasure Amateur classes. It was a really fun and exciting time. When my father passed away, the family decided to close Haras Allah Din. We sold all the horses, except my personal western horses. I bought a new property in Nova Lima, near Belo Horizonte where I lived, and founded Rancho Arabco Western Training. I continued training and showing my horses and I enjoyed success, including winning the titles of Brazilian National Champion Western Pleasure Senior in the professional class and National Reserve Champion Western Pleasure Senior, riding two horses that I personally trained. We also exported some western horses including HSE NOELANI+// (El Nabila B x HSE Naomi), Brazilian National Western Pleasure Senior Champion and later, United States Youth National Champion. “Now my son, João Pedro, is also very involved with the horses. It makes me happy knowing we will have three generations of breeders in the family and our passion will be perpetuated. The most important aspects of my history with horses are the connections I had with my father, and now with my son, and the tremendous pleasure I get living and working with Arabian horses every day of my life. “We have two Arabian horse operations. At the mare farm, there are good stables and excellent pastures for our embryo donor mares and recipient mares. When their foals are born, we choose which will come to Rancho Arabco to prepare for competition. I have excellent people working with me at both farms. Our horses are conditioned at Rancho Arabco by Diego Silva and I love training my horses there every weekend. We also work with several trainers – Sandro Pinha, Dejair Sousa, Dagmar Gordiano, Zezé Rodrigues, and Arthur Nascimento – who visit us periodically and present our horses at the shows.”

OUR BREEDING PROGRAM:
“In 2012, I started breeding Arabian horses for halter. I was lucky to find and buy some beautiful fillies and mares with special people in Brazil and the USA. I am really blessed to have Luiz Gonzaga, Bernard Santana, Tony Salloum, and his son Tony, as partners in some horses. We have enjoyed many great times together. “I will never forget meeting the amazing stallion EL TINO (DA Valentino x Imprimista CF) and his offspring at Haras El Madan with Pedro Amaral. I immediately felt he was a special sire. I told my friends and partners about EL TINO and they trusted my judgment. We choose important mares for him, including Shavanna el Madan (FA El Shawan x Jedalah Cajun RMC), who gave us our first National Champions DOMINUS ARABCO and SHIVA ARABCO. I also bought National Champion Tina El Madan (x Grace LM) from Pedro Amaral. “EL TINO and his sons and daughters have really blessed my life. This year we unanimously won the Brazilian National Gold Champion Jr. Jr. Fillies with MARCELHAH ARABCO (x RFI Bettina Almaktub), who is a great-granddaughter of SB Iaci (Abbas Pasha x Plan Fabula), a mare my father bred 30 years ago. Winning this title with a mare connected to my father’s program was a very special moment for me. We sold EL TINO last year, but we continue using him in our breeding program. We are also partners in the stallion EL SHAKHYR (FA El Shawan x Madinah Van Ryad, by Ryad El Jamaal). He is the sire of SHAKHYRA ARABCO (x Tamina PCF) a three-time Brazilian National Champion Filly. “For our breeding program, we work to have balance, movement, incredible necks, and beauty in both our halter and performance horses, but we know our halter horses must have extra beauty and charisma. I have used a number of different stallions, but the best results are by EL TINO, out of Maktub and FA El Shawan daughters. We will continue with these mares and females of DA Valentino, Marwan al Shaqab, RSD Dark Victory, and Ali Jamaal bloodlines too. The most important now is Shavanna el Madan (FA El Shawan x Jedalah Cajun RMC), who is an aristocrat mare with four Brazilian National Champion sons and daughters. Also, we have National Champion producer Tamina PCF (PCF Vision x Mistichall UA, by Magnum Chall HVP). “We believe having Arabco horses around the world is important for our program. DOMINUS ARABCO (El Tino x Shavanna el Madan) sold to breeders from Chile and was U.S. National Reserve Champion and ABWC Bronze Champion in Vegas. RHADASHAH ARABCO (El Tino x Yasmin HWM), was sold to Royal Arabians in the USA, and won multiple Brazilian National and Scottsdale Championships. MARCELHAH ARABCO (El Tino x RFI Bettina Almaktub), METEOR ARABCO (El Tino x Stinna W) and SHAKHYRA ARABCO (El Shakhyr x Tamina PCF) all sold to Saudi Arabia after winning their 2019 Brazil National Championship titles. Their new owners are Mr. Al Ayidh, Fahad Saeed Z, and Abdulrahaman Al Nassar. These, along with INTENSE ARABCO (El Tino x Shavanna el Madan) who was the 2019 Brazilian National Gold Champion Colt, are our most significant horses and I believe, will do even more with their new owners. “The 2019 Brazilian Nationals were undoubtedly the best Nationals in our farm’s history. We thank the ABCCA and our President, Luciano Cury, for their outstanding efforts, and we congratulate all the Brazilian breeders for the quality of their horses. We worked for years to prepare for this show, but I never imagined that small breeders like us would be named BEST BREEDER OF THE BRAZILIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.”

RANCHO ARABCO - LOOKING FORWARD:
“Breeding Arabian horses is part of my life – they’re part of my family. Our success at this year’s Nationals further motivates me to continue this work. Our goal is to continue breeding exceptional horses and have them perpetuated through other breeders around the world. We are currently expecting numerous foals by EL TINO out of our mares. I also purchased an embryo from RFI Bettina Almaktub for El Tino and we hope for another beautiful filly like MARCELHAH ARABCO. “The Brazilian people have great passion; we love our horses! There are not a lot of breeders in Brazil, but the quality and style of our horses set us apart. There is always a very cordial atmosphere at our shows, and we receive our foreign visitors with great joy. I think that with all the efforts by the Brazilian breeders as well as our association, our National show may be the best show in the world for 2019. “Arabian horses are unmatched in their intelligence and beauty. I truly believe living with these majestic animals is a gift from God, and the greatest blessings they bring are the connections between people, making friends, and having magical moments with lots of laughter. Recently, we’ve seen a significant reduction in the number of Arabian horse births around the world. We need to create new opportunities for everyone to participate, not just an elite minority, and we also need to find more ways to share this wonderful lifestyle with new people. The best way to preserve our breed for future generations is to share our love for the Arabian horse.” —S.B.N.

It is an honor to have been the Chairman of the Arabian National Breeder Finals show for the past two years. Since its inception in 2011, the show has grown to be a must-attend event with the highest caliber of horses competing. The red carpet is rolled out, farm cabanas built, and a beautifully decorated show arena makes for the perfect ambiance. The camaraderie amongst fellow Arabian horse enthusiasts is enjoyed by all. An added highlight this year was the addition of $100,000 in prize money for the yearling colt and f illy classes. Also, returning for a second year was the Weanling AOTH class. It is a pleasure to see owners proudly presenting their foals, most for the f irst time. The Arabian National Breeder Finals is going strong and we look forward to another great show in 2020. Hope to see everyone there!!! —Paul Glans

Hannah B y at t When Mozn Albidayer earned Gold Champion Junior Filly in 2017 with Tom Schoukens.
I first met Mozn in Scottsdale in 2016 and I loved her immediately. She is clearly beautiful, but I loved her for her personality, which is sometimes over-the-top, very spirited, but nonetheless endearing. She became one of my favorite horses to visit at my dad’s farm, and I was there when she was awarded Gold Champion Junior Filly in Vegas that year with my dad. I was so excited to see her show again in 2016 in Paris, but it was, of course, slightly disappointing to see her leave as Silver Champion Junior Filly. The next year, the nerves and excitement were even greater than the year before. I was thrilled to finally see her win Gold, but mostly I felt really lucky and appreciative to be included in such a special moment with Dawn Martin, Sheikh Mohammed Al Qasimi, and my dad!

J avan S chal ler The Paris 2014 World Championship was an incredible moment for me, When Excalibur EA was named Gold Champion. I first saw Excalib ar EA as a yearling at Ted Carson’s farm when no one knew of him. He was a complete unknown. It was exciting to be part of a great story from the its beginning. Ted knows that I was quite excited over this new colt from Spain ... and I said to him everyone will be amazed and surprised to see him at Nationals that year and there would be no reason for him not to win which, of course, he did. And then to see him in Paris a few years later and become World Champion is quite a Cinderella story with everyone else involved. He was a great discove ry for Ted and for all of us!

S tu ar t V est y My favorite memor y of Paris was from 1983, the first year I went to the Salon Du Cheval. I travelled as a groom in a cargo plane with Mizan Taj Halim and Lady Muscata. That year, Mizan Taj Halim was named World Champion Senior Stallion. The young Polish colt Fawor was named World Champion Junior Colt. After their classes, the Poles came to celebrate our win with a glass of Champ agne for Mizan Taj Halim, and we returned to their stable for a shot of Vodka in celebration of Fawor’s victory. Little did I know then, that a decade and a half later my connection with those new Polish friends from Paris would be reignited, as I began a 20-year relationship with them as the official photographer for their legendary annual auctions. Needless to say, I continue to enjoy an occasional shot of Vodka. :)
