My life is full of joy as a result of my passion for the Arabian horse and everything it embodies, as well as my children and extended family, which includes all of my clients, some who have been with me for decades and those brand new. I would like to dedicate this very special book to all of them, including the Arabian horse that binds us all together as one. — David Boggs

The Magic Of

by BETH ELLEN HUNZIKER with JEFF WALLACE

The love of the Arabian horse has been a lifelong passion for internationally acclaimed horseman David Boggs, and his greatest joy is sharing the horses with those he loves, both family and friends, of which there are many. David Boggs not only grew up in a big family of eight children, but has also amassed a big horse family, all centered around his beloved Midwest Training and Breeding Centre and the Arabian horse. It is almost impossible to separate the two.

“I love everything about the Arabian horse,” says David. “To me, an Arabian horse is one of the most perfect creatures on earth.” David’s string of top winning mares over the years will attest to that fact. Mares such as, Wayne Newton’s ethereal white beauty WN Antigua, or Walter Mishek’s three complete and gorgeous chestnut beauties, Bask Calonett, La Duquesa and Maggdalina; and let’s not forget the unanimous winners collection of Amber Satin, NH Love Potion, and JBK Mystic Fawn. As you can see, the list of feminine heavenly creatures is quite long. David’s 2014 halter mare hails from the country of Poland and is here in America on lease to Midwest client Janey Morse. *Wieza Mocy is the great-granddaughter of legendary Polish mare *Wizja, 1977 U.S. National Champion Mare. *Wizja gifted her descendant with an enormous amount of quality and charm, and *Wieza Mocy, fresh off a springtime win this year at the Breeders World Cup show in Las Vegas, was not only named Gold Supreme Champion Mare, but High Point Horse of the show. Without a doubt, she is one of the most spectacular young mares the world has ever seen.

About the beauty of the Arabian horse, David continues, “It is incomparable. Their spirit, kindness, intelligence, courage, heart, gentleness and love of people, captivated me when I was a boy. That connection has never diminished; every day I find something new to love about the horses. To work with them on a daily basis is a dream come true. Sure, it is demanding; the horses need attention and care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, but the personal and professional rewards are worth every minute.

“The Arabian horse has enriched my life in countless ways, most significantly through my family. My father and mother shared their love of the horses with me and my siblings. My parents owned the wonderful breeding stallion Garis who was the sire of the gorgeous grey filly One Exception, one of my early Scottsdale Junior Champions. Now I am able to share that same love with my four

children, all of whom love horses.” Son, Jake Boggs, is a fifth generation Boggs horse lover and absolutely adores the fine horses living at Midwest. He is destined for a life with Arabians, no doubt. David’s three adorable daughters, now in college and the final year of high school, have also made Arabians a huge priority so far in their young lives, whether it be showing, photographing, or just loving them.

David Boggs’ heartfelt desire has become his life’s work. Over the past thirty plus years, he has travelled the world from Paris to Dubai, Des Moines to Sao Paulo, and most recently, Warsaw. David has visited every continent where Arabian horses live. Along the way he has met members of royal families, rulers of nations, aristocrats, titans of industry, and famous members of the entertainment industry, including rock stars. His favorite people remain those who truly love the Arabian horse—breeders, trainers, grooms, those who own Arabian horses, and those who dream of the possibility, especially the children. “The precious friends I have made,” David says, “and the wonderful people I have met; the beautiful places I have visited and the exciting adventures I have had, are all because of the Arabian horse. Words cannot describe how blessed I feel. I just want to share that with others.”

Boggs has a reputation for leading superstars into the arena and leaving with champions. This year’s show string will be no exception. Included, are the outrageously beautiful and competitive horses of Al Shaqab – Member Qatar Foundation from Doha, Qatar. The Al Shaqab beauty and undefeated son of Marwan Al Shaqab, *Hariry Al Shaqab, was Gold Supreme Champion Stallion

in Las Vegas this year, and they continue to send beautiful stock Midwest’s way to be exhibited in America. Al Shaqab is one of the world’s finest breeders of Arabian horses today with a stallion battery second to none.

From Dubai and Kuwait comes another new client, Mr. Bassam Al Saqran, of Al Saqran Stud. His grey statuesque stallion *Baahir El Marwan was the 2014 Scottsdale Supreme Halter Champion and his mare, Luxemere Jizette, was named Champion Senior Mare at the very same show. Mr Bassam’s gorgeous two-year-old filly Donna Molta Bella SRA, bred and sold by Midwest clients Dan and Maureen Grossman, won the Junior Filly title also in Las Vegas this year, and has an amazing future in the show arena and breeding shed. Very exciting for Al Saqran Stud is an embryo by *Baahir El Marwan out of Donna Molta Bella for 2015.

David Boggs’ passion for the Arabian horse is the key to success at Midwest Training and Breeding Centre. The business is a creation of his vision; it provides his energy, and it sustains his commitment to search out and find, acquire, transform and showcase the crème de la crème of the breed. Thirty years of experience has trained David’s eye to see what others miss and that is potential. His ability to see beyond what stands in front of him, to visualize the possibility, is not a skill, but a gift.

6 • M IDW EST

His vision of the ideal Arabian horse has evolved over the years. Throughout his career he has seen and evaluated thousands of Arabian horses. He has studied, and mentally filed away, every facet, every conformational detail, and each individual’s pedigree, in order to better understand their physical and genetic potential. David’s goal has always been to find the horses that come the closest to his ideal—the horse whose beauty, carriage, and attitude makes him stop in his tracks and takes his breath away.

M IDW EST •

“In my search for truly great Arabian horses, I keep an open mind,” David shares. “When a small breeder comes to me and tells me they have a superstar, I listen. Many of the most influential horses in history are the result of small breeding programs. I believe these dedicated people are the backbone of our industry. I appreciate their commitment, and respect the importance of their contributions. There is an indescribable thrill when I see a special horse that comes from a small breeder; I can see their pride in their accomplishment.

8 • M IDW EST

“Generally, if I see a horse that really impresses me, I’m usually pretty confident that I can find a buyer for it. If it is a horse I would want to own for myself, then I know I can work with it, even if it isn’t conditioned or trained. For me, finding a diamond in the rough is often the most exciting opportunity. Taking a horse that has unrealized potential and developing it into a show ring superstar is a fantastic experience, as it really doesn’t get much better than that.”

Boggs’ success with Midwest Training and Breeding Centre was not achieved overnight. It is the result of over thirty years of hard work and focused vision. His career began in the early 70’s when he started grooming and training his parent’s horses, then showing them on the local, regional and eventually the national level.

David’s home state of Minnesota and neighboring state of Wisconsin, have had some of the most active and influential horse breeders and owners in the world, including his parents, Don and Shorty Boggs, their stallion Gawad, and the above mentioned Garis. Other noteworthy breeders of the time were: Dan Gainey, owner of the great stallion Ferzon, and the Forehands, owners of the wonderful breeding horse Gamaar. By the late 70’s, David had made a name for himself in

the show ring and as the marketer for top quality horses. “Looking back, my work ethic came from my parents and their parents,” David says, “and I’ve looked all my life to the many successful businessmen I’ve been blessed to know and work with for wisdom and information along the way. My initial inspiration came from Gene LaCroix and my first mentor was Robert Stratmore, importer and owner of my beloved *Padron.” Other wonderful mentors in David’s life through the years include: Tom Chauncey, Walter Mishek, Fernando de Santibanes, Dan Grossman, and Brazilian entrepreneur Paulo Levy, all of whom, David says, taught him how to be not only an astute businessman, but a good father to his children, as well.

Through those many profound relationships has come some of the world’s finest horses for David to exhibit, care for, and manage. *Padron was one of the most popular

and charismatic show horses of all time and with David’s help, created what is now one of the most successful sire lines of all time around the world. The blood of *Padron is used in almost all major breeding programs on all continents.

David also led the very charismatic son of *Padron, Padrons Psyche, to U.S. Reserve National Champion Stallion as a very young 3-year-old. Next was *Padron’s grandson, the magnificent Magnum Psyche, owned by Fernando and Joaquin de Santibanes of Argentina. Magnum proved his show ring potential with his stunning physical excellence, earning five national championship titles in halter. However, his greatest achievements took place in the breeding barn. His get have won countless national championships everywhere one can imagine and they continue the legacy by breeding on with the level of quality they themselves came from. Truly the magic of Magnum.

Over the years, world famous Arabians have been a part of Midwest, creating an amazing story for David to tell and share. In addition to those mentioned above, there are stallions the likes of American Triple Crown winner *Pogrom, whom David showed for Director Marek Trela from Janów Podlaski Stud in Poland. There was

the late great DA Valentino, shown for wonderful friends, Dan and Maureen Grossman, whose siring record is as grand as his show record. The list continues with longtime client Janey Morse’s stallion Vitorio TO, also a multi-national champion halter horse, who continues to amaze. Vitorio’s siring abilities are boundless, and have taken him all the way to the Michalów Stud in Poland where he is standing for two years while introducing a new sire line to the Polish breeding program, that of *Mirage. There are 35 foals expected by Vitorio at Michalów in 2015, from the likes of World Champions *Emandoria and *Wieza Mocy.

At Midwest, the new addition of *Magic Magnifique from Sweden Arabian Stud and *Van Gogh AM from Al-Mohamadia Stud in Saudi Arabia have also been well received, both gorgeous and incredibly popular in the breeding shed. “We are so blessed, says David.

Midwest stories also continue to abound from the show ring. 2014 has been very successful, starting with the Scottsdale All Arabian show in February where Midwest took home 13 championships and reserves, followed by countless top ten awards. As mentioned above, Midwest had both Champion

Mare and Champion Stallion, as well as Supreme Champion Halter Horse with *Baahir El Marwan, only to repeat this same difficult feat at the Breeders World Cup in Las Vegas with *Hariry Al Shaqab and *Wieza Mocy. The year is far from over as U.S. Nationals is just ahead with a powerful who’s who list of entries ready to alter the already impressive statistics of 2014.

David acknowledges that much of this success is owed to his behind-the-scenes team at Midwest, who mean the world to him. He is incredibly proud of them, as well as eternally grateful for the work they do which makes everything come off so perfectly in the end. Their incredible list of wins at every show are a result of their constant daily efforts.

The foundation of Midwest’s success was built like that of a great monument—one that endures the test of time—stone by stone, or in the case of Midwest, horse by horse. It has taken years of endless effort, focused attention to detail, and a keen understanding of the importance of customer service to establish and build the Midwest that we know today. These efforts are sustained by the inspiration of this enterprise—David’s passion for the Arabian horse. This is the fuel that feeds the energy and commitment to provide excellence, on every level, to the clients of Midwest.

16 • M IDW EST

“I have the most amazing job in the world,” David professes. “Sure, it is a lot of work, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. My father told me if something is worth having, then it is worth working for. He taught me, by his own example, the honor of a hard day’s work. It is a principle I never forgot and one that I live by each day. At our farm, we offer five-star services to our clients and their treasured horses they so freely send us. We remain available to them all hours of the day, every day of the year. That’s what it is all about—surrounding ourselves with the very best horses and offering the absolute best services, care and love to people and horses alike. I believe that is what has made Midwest the best farm in the business.”

C. Jarvis Insurance Agency is a four generation family-owned business founded by Charles and Eleanor Jarvis in 1946 and currently owned and operated by Charles’ daughter Patricia and his granddaughter Kimberly. The Jarvis family has lived and worked in the lush and beautiful horse country of Ohio for generations, and has been personally involved with Arabian horses for over a half-century. Though Charles himself did not personally own horses, he was particularly fond of the Polish Arabian and was recognized throughout the state as a major horse show benefactor and class sponsor. As time passed, Patricia raised her two girls, Kimberly and her sister, Sandy Jarvis, encouraging them to ride and exhibit horses of all breeds. Their involvement with horses, especially, Arabian horses, was a major determinant in Kimberly's response to the equine industry's need for insurance.

When asked to name her favorite Midwest horse, Kim ponders, yet answers flatly, "I am a mare person and love many of those that David has shown to a National Champion Mare title, such as: Amber Satin, Bask Calonett and NH Love Potion, to name just three." Kim and her family's respect for David Boggs runs deep and all of the Jarvis' treasure the friendship and time spent together immensely. There are many more wonderful memories and stories yet to be authored between the two families. Kim ties it all together beautifully by saying, "Arabian horse breeders and trainers are always among the leaders and innovators in the equine industry. Collectively, they have

ANTHONY, DENISE, BRITTANY AND AJ MARINO MA R I N O A R A B I A N S

AJ Marino has been involved with Arabians since 1993, when he started out riding performance horses with his sister Brittany. When AJ met David Boggs in 2007, however, everything changed when he entered the world of halter and never looked back. AJ won't tell you this, but he is quite the master amateur and has a great time doing it. The entire Marino family actually enjoys the horses, but AJ is who they look to as the true breeder. AJ's first purchase from Midwest resulted in a filly Marino Arabians still owns today. He bought an embryo from the gorgeous Ryad El Jamaal daughter, Van El Rose, and sired by a stallion that has had a big impact not only on AJ, but on the collection of horses owned by the family, the late great multiNational Champion Stallion DA Valentino. The resulting filly, Rosa La Valentina, in turn gave the farm a stunning colt by Da Vinci FM aptly named Dominic M, a National Champion in both Brazil and Uruguay this year.

There has in a very short time, and with David's guidance, been several breeding successes for Marino Arabians.Kharisma M is another beautiful creation from Marino Arabians. Also sired by DA Valentino, and out of Kharmel BR, an early purchase for AJ who David Boggs happened to be admiring as well, bringing the two now very close friends together for the first time. This influence of DA Valentino continues to pay dividends for the Marinos. The farm's 2013 yearling bay WH Justice filly, Arabella M, whose dam is yet another daughter of DA Valentino, was named Bronze Champion Yearling Filly at the Breeders Cup in Las Vegas this year for new owner Joye Arabians in Belgium. The Marino family is very close which explains why Midwest is a very happy home for them in the Arabian horse world. Adds AJ, "I can truly count on David Boggs and Team Midwest for anything, and that is saying a lot." AJ continues with passion in his voice by saying, "Oh, did I tell you? I think Hariry Al Shaqab is my new favorite horse of all time."

Lady Gina Pelham has been breeding Arabian horses in Argentina since 1966. It is easy to understand why she makes a point to tell us that she has had many favorite horses, including her very first foal, as well as her very first stallion. However, it is her current stallion, Legacy of Fame, who is her new favorite. He is a gorgeous bay, American-bred, handsome horse that Lady Gina purchased through David Boggs, friends for a very long time now. She loves everything about this grand animal, from his beauty to his gentleness, and his ability to sire beautiful babies

with correct conformation—simply a true sire of extreme quality. "I have known David", says Lady Gina Pelham, "for many, many years and have always admired him and his incredible work ethic. Over the years I have loved him as a good and dear friend, and I always wish him the very best, and for happiness and success in his life. Gina continues, "Team Midwest as a whole is quite wonderful and I love visiting them all during Scottsdale time, where they always make me feel truly welcome and at home. I just love them all."

JE FF SLOAN

Jeff Sloan got his start with the Arabian horse in late 1981. He remembers that his very first awareness of Arabians came from watching “The Black Stallion” movie that year when he was a college student at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. “The relationship between the boy and the stallion in the movie was very powerful for me; it was like flipping a switch inside that was just waiting to be turned on” says Jeff. ”Shortly after seeing that movie, I started taking riding lessons off-campus. I remember telling my riding instructor that I would like to purchase a horse like the one in the movie, and she said, ‘You want an Arabian horse.’ Just a few weeks later, I was the proud owner of a 12-year-old white Arabian stallion, who, at the time, was the most magnificent horse I’d ever seen! Shortly after buying him, I soon learned that he was far from an exemplary Arabian, but nevertheless, I loved that horse, and from that first positive ownership experience, my passion for Arabians began.” While Jeff has been involved with many of the greatest horses and show ring victories since his introduction to the Arabian horse, one of his first great memories of Arabian horse competition occurred at the 1982 U.S. Nationals show in Louisville where Jeff met David Boggs for the first time. Jeff remembers David inviting him to meet him and the Midwest team at the out-gate following *Padron’s U.S. National Stallion class. “And while I wasn’t directly involved with *Padron, David made me feel like I was part of it all—part of history in the making. The impact of that experience has stayed with me to this day,” Jeff reflects. “I will never forget the vision of David and *Padron in the ring—the imagery of the two of them in that competition will forever be etched in my memory and no doubt ignited my lifelong passion for the Arabian horse.”

With an impressive list of Arabian horses to choose from: *Pianissima, *Elandra, *Emandoria, *El Nabila B, LD Pistal, Honey's Delight RB, FA El Rasheem and Aria Impresario, just to name a few, Jeff has a hard time picking a single favorite horse. “I’ve been so fortunate to own, lease, and/or manage some of the most significant and beautiful Arabian horses. Each horse … and each experience… has contributed to my life in so many ways. With these horses, I’ve lived my passion and created memories I’ll treasure for a lifetime.” Knowing David Boggs is one of the most significant relationships Jeff has formed in the Arabian horse business. Jeff attributes the success of David’s program to his tenacity and focus. “Any time you mix intense passion and ambition with equally intense skill and work ethic, you have a winner. I’ve known, worked with, competed against, and celebrated success with David Boggs since we met in 1982. I know that in any of my horse endeavors, if David and I are on the same team to campaign a horse, the odds of success in the show ring, and in the marketplace, are greatly accelerated. And when competing against David, I always know that any road to victory requires getting past him. I respect David immensely for his achievements, his indomitable spirit and his unstoppable drive.” David also has a great deal of appreciation for Jeff and his family. He shares, “The Sloan family has been dear to my heart since we met and hugged each other at the celebration party for National Champion *Padron. We’ve shared many special horses and exhilarating moments such as LD Pistal, Aria Impresario and NBW Angels Kiss, just to name a few.”

M E L I SSA SUB J E C K

Melissa Subjeck began her journey with the Arabian horse two decades ago when her parents bought her first Arabian in 1994. Prior to that, she was riding hunter/jumper horses until her trainer moved to the Florida circuit. This inspired her parents to buy her a Half-Arabian hunter pleasure gelding. However, he wasn’t quite what they expected. Melissa shares, “Unbeknownst to my parents (who were not 'horse people' at the time), this horse did not jump; but it didn’t matter. The beauty, energy, intelligence, and loyalty of that gelding made me fall in love with the horse—and the breed—forever. What captivates me about the Arabian horse is their versatility. From halter to English pleasure, western to reining and racing—the Arabian will do it all for you.” Some of her favorite memories with the Arabian horse stem from truly iconic stallions—Magnum Psyche and DA Valentino. Melissa reflects, “At the Buckeye in 1998, I was fortunate enough to witness the Stallion Championship, where a stunning chestnut colt was about to embark on his journey into the history of the breed. That colt, Magnum Psyche, with his careful handler, David Boggs, were soon named the Ohio Buckeye Champions. I watched with great pride as that colt went on to become one of the most decorated stallions in the history of the breed. Nearly a decade later, a second stallion took my breath away. That stallion, the essence of perfection, was the great DA Valentino. DA Valentino ultimately gave me, and the Arabian horse world, the greatest gift—a stunning black filly by the name of Ebony By Valentino."

As for her personal connection to David Boggs and Midwest Training Centre, Melissa’s relationship began in 2008 when she bred her Saddlebred mare, CF Mamie’s Night Out, to DA Valentino. Impressed by David from the beginning, Melissa shares, “Although I did not know David very well at this point, he guided me through every important decision with my star filly, including her sale to Gemini Acres. Even after the sale, as David promised he would, he kept me apprised of Ebony’s progress and wins—including championships at the Iowa Gold Star, National Show Horse Finals, and U.S. Nationals. Where most breeders or owners are cut out of the loop after a sale, David was kind enough to keep me a part of the 'team,' well after the sale. Since that first introduction, David has been an essential part of every decision I have made with my small breeding operation, and I trust and rely on his expertise every step of the way. Without David and Team Midwest, I would not have the great horses or success that I have experienced in the last several years.” For Melissa, Midwest and David are distinctive in their unfaltering dedication to the success of their clients and horses. “The care of the horses that we love so much is second to none. Likewise, Midwest is committed to making the whole experience—from training to lessons to the show ring—an enjoyable experience for their clientele. They assure that you are a part of the Midwest team—no matter who you are—including you in the enthusiasm and experience of the magnificent people and horses that are synonymous with Midwest. Being a part of Team Midwest is being a part of the history of the breed.”

In 1992, after attending finals night of the U.S. Nationals and watching Bob Boggs win Champion Stallion with Echo Magnifficoo, Jason Tackett has been hooked on Arabian horses and has had a passion for showing halter horses ever since. So far, Jason would say his own all-time favorite horses are two that he purchased through Midwest and won national championships with each—Calyx and BHF Wind Dancer; two magnificent halter horses. States Jason, "I am truly blessed to have spent 22 years with David and everyone that makes up the whole of Team Midwest. Throughout the years, everyone involved with Midwest, including Bob Boggs who taught me, 'where

the feet go,' have been so influential in helping me accomplish my ultimate goals and multiple national championships. David has been a father figure to me, a mentor and an incredible example of how to run a business. Midwest has definitely set the industry standard for dominance in the show ring, breeding sales, and marketing of horses for many years now. These accomplishments make a person who is extremely dedicated to his profession and always believes there are higher goals, achieve, and that is who David Boggs is. I would like to thank David, and the many wonderful Midwest clients, for entrusting me to show their amazing horses in the amateur to handle jackpot classes. Words can't express how very blessed and grateful I am to those who have helped me succeed in the arena."

AHT COVER STORY:

by JEFF WALLACE

Uddevalla, Sweden is located at the eastern bay side of the Skagerrak Sea which shoulders Norway directly to the west. The beaches of Uddevalla are filled with seashells, which has one of the largest shell banks in the world. Uddevalla is also home to a young girl’s dream that would be realized many years later, when Kathleen Olsson established her beloved Sweden Arabian Stud in 2003.

For one, she chose a stallion in Magic Magnifique to head her program. He has a very unique dam line and his look is equally as special. I anxiously await to see what bright future holds for Kathleen’s program.”

Kathleen has been involved with horses since the age of five, and at thirteen purchased her first Arabian by the name of Merano, by Fynd. He was a wonderful example of what Kathleen loves about the Arabian horse—exotic beauty and extreme versatility. Kathleen and Merano competed in various disciplines which would lead to Kathleen being named Best Amateur Handler at the Swedish Nationals, a few years later. Even though Kathleen founded the Stud with the Polish stallion Armaani, it is now the exotic and gorgeous black stallion Magic Magnifique who is line-bred to the legendary U.S. Reserve National Champion Stallion Thee Desperado and who rides herd at Sweden Arabian Stud as “man of the hour”. Adds International breeder, Erin Naas, of Dolce Cavallo Arabians in Scottsdale, “Kathleen Olsson has done a wonderful job of making a name for her horses, as well as herself, as a breeder.

Magic Magnifique has one of the most exotically beautiful heads you will ever see on an Arabian stallion. His large black apple-like eyes are perfectly placed on his exquisite head and his expression is captivating to all who have the honor of standing in his presence. He was awarded the Most Classic Junior Head award at the annual prestigious Salon du Cheval show in Paris, as a young colt. Paris, of course, is a show chock full of horses with the epitome of beautiful heads, therefore tremendous competition for such an award. But Magic isn’t just a pretty face. His conformation overall is simply superb according to many seasoned experts within the breed. He is the perfect example of today’s Arabian no matter what country you reside in. Sired by True Colours, by Thee Desperado, Magic is a paternal half-brother to World Champion Stallion Royal Colours, while boasting two additional crosses to his great late grandsire through sons BJ Thee Mustafa and Windsprees Mirage, both excellent sires of beauty throughout Europe. Out of Magic Mon Amour, his Russian tail-female line, also, is very interesting as it represents the very best of international breeder and judge, Sylvia Garde-Ehlert’s program during the 1980’s in Germany. One of the most exotically beautiful mares

in the world was Sylvia’s chestnut double-Aswan granddaughter Neschi. When bred to her equally stunning Nabeg son, Neman, they produced the gorgeous Nascha. Nascha, with yet another Nabeg son, *Menes, produced the very important Menascha. This collection of Russian Arabians were respected the world over for their extreme high quality and haunting beauty—they were all absolutely exquisite. Menascha then, with Kubinec, gave the breed Krushinka, a mare with tremendous beauty, flawless movement and three crosses to the wonderful Nabeg, grandson of the Polish sire Amurath Sahib, one of the greatest breeding stallions to ever live. Amurath Sahib daughters have provided horses such as the two U.S. National Champion Stallions of immense beauty and impact, the immortals *Bask++ and *Aramus. Magic Magnifique has taken this treasure trove of Russian and Egyptian heritage and become a sire extraordinaire himself. Many of his get have been shown internationally, winning Best In Show and championship titles, as well as Most Classic Head awards. Kathleen has also exported many horses to countries such as Abu Dhabi, Egypt, Slovakia, Denmark, France, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The beautiful and versatile horses of Kathleen Olsson’s Sweden Arabian Stud have been traveling the globe.

This year, Magic Magnifique landed on American soil and is in the very capable hands of famed Arabian trainer David Boggs. Not only is he breeding a roster of valuable and important mares while under David’s competent management at his Midwest Training and Breeding Center in Scottsdale, but will also step into the arena at the Scottsdale Breeders Show in the Egyptian related classes. States a very matter-of-fact Mr. Boggs, “True passion and love for the Arabian horse is how I would describe Kathleen Olsson. Her enthusiasm and energy are wonderful to see and she is an A+ person to work with on promoting her stallion. She has a keen eye for true breed type and Magic Manifique is evidence of her commitment to the breed. Midwest is thrilled to have this team as an important part of our family.” The creation of the stud farm began with a woman whose soul and spirit was touched by the love of Arabian horses, and now Kathleen and her exotic and stellar creations are doing the same for all of us—the world over. ■

ORA

The Making Of A

Legend

On April 10, 2011, a future star was born. Oak Ridge Arabians owned both Sultan’s sire and dam, not

something you find very often, and certainly a credit to David Boggs, the late Don Morse, and his lovely wife, Janey, who together assembled a wonderful collection of breeding stock for Oak Ridge.

Everyone knew that this stunning bay colt was something very special. His sire, Vegas DPA, hails from the legendary sire line of U.S. National Champion Stallion *Padron, shown to his win by David Boggs. Vegas DPA also carries the blood of the two great sires Echo Magnificoo and Magic Dream CAHR, both having had a tremendously positive impact on the breed. Dam to Sultan ORA is the gorgeous National Champion Raherra, who, though no longer is with us, having moved on to greener pastures at a very young age, not only produced Sultan ORA, but his champion younger full sister Sultress ORA, also the pride and joy of the Roizners. It is very special in this breed when a family is held together in high esteem not only by the breeders of record, but by new and covetous owners, as well.

Raherra’s breeding not only marked her for the show ring, but for the breeding shed, as well. Her sire, Rahere, has been an excellent breeding stallion and her dam, Dyna HCF, brings to the table a classic Brazilian pedigree from her sire, the great Don El Chall and with a tail female line to broodmare supreme Doll Padron, adding a second cross to the charismatic *Padron.

As a weanling, Sultan ORA was already named 2011 Breeder Finals Gold Champion Weanling Colt and in 2012, as a yearling, he was named both Canadian National Champion Yearling Colt and 2012 Gold Star Champion Arabian Auction Yearling Colt. Sultan ORA was now well on his way. 2013 gave way to even more show ring validation for this young superstar. He went back to the Iowa Gold Star event to claim the title of Champion Futurity Arabian Two-Year-Old Colt. Sultan ORA was also named the 2013 Arabian Horse Celebration Arabian Junior Champion Colt, and finally that year, none other than U.S. National Champion Arabian Two-Year-Old Colt. The wins continue to pile up for this climbing young star. This year, in 2014, along with master handler, David Boggs, at the lead, Sultan ORA will enter the arena in the U.S. National Futurity Colt class to once again collect what many feel is due him, another national championship title to go with the two he has already claimed as his own. He not only boasts the blood of many legendary breeding horses, but Sultan ORA has the show ring accolades to prove he is a great horse in the flesh. All of this adds up to a young and dynamic colt poised to sire tomorrow’s champions, and become, A Legend In The Making.
